What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Harry’s garage in youtube has a good Miura video. Lovely sounds, but at 1.3£ million out of my league. But at least I own a car designed by the same artist.

It used to be very genteel. My mum has a photo from the 1950s with my gran, and grandad, newborn uncle and mum all sitting on the beach. My grandad is wearing a suit and tie, but had rolled his trousers up!

I loved it as a kid in the 70s, so imagine my horror when we took our daughter a few years ago to find discarded needles less than 50 yds from the main beach front, the impossibility of getting anything other than the shitest greasy spoon food (not even fish and chips!), the used nappies barely covered in sand. Such a shame as I loved it so much as a kid.

Christ on a stick, it makes fucking Blackpool in winter look fabulous. I'd rather live in Rhyl.

Keep off the class A, Ken.

We went quite a lot as children in the 1970s like you. Often the tide was miles out with green slime covering a lot of the sand. I think the last time we went there was a plague of ladybirds. Hundreds of millions of them. Sadly the drugs problem is spreading across from Prestatyn to flint.

When we went I was picking up an exhaust for the Capri from a nearby village. The guy warned us off but I thought how bad can it be? We carried on to Llandudno which doesn’t seem to have changed at all in thirty years.

Very expensive place to live Chester.

Not necessarily true

Just move out to Blacon. I lived there 40 years ago, admittedly right at the far end on the road to Saughall backing onto the railway, you just had to avoid driving through the estate. I don't think even then I ever went to the shops there

Blacon is ace, I used to live right behind the (old) Camp shops. The people round there generally seem to be 857 times nicer than some of the snobs in other parts of town.

23 years ago Mrs wack and I did a tour of the south , Kent, day trip to France etc , we'd booked a night in hastings, didn't know anything about it apart from the battle.

Drove along the seafront, looked at the hotel we'd booked and drove on, didn't even get out of the car it looked that grim , rest of it was ok though

I was looking through some old pictures , my dad was a keen fisherman all his life , a year before he died at 82 he went missing for a day because he found out his mobility scooter had a 20 mile range so he went to look at a lake 5 miles away without telling anybody

I live 150 miles from him , took the kids down to see him , must be 10 years ago now , we met him at a lake and he gave my son a fishing lesson , do you think he enjoyed it

When we were younger, we had a week in Hastings with our kids for our summer holiday. Well I say Hastings, but it was actually a f family room in the youth hostel. It was great. I thought Hastings was great too.

M8nd you it was fucking hot.

I knew nothing about Hastings , we were on a culture trip , it looked very Blackpool with cockneys so we drove on , I think we went to Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Probably a great place for a family , I went to Blackpool many times as a child and loved it , apart from the time my dad told me I was swimming next to a turd , that's a holiday memory I'd sooner forget .

Last year I visited Doncaster and I think I posted my impressions here, I've since tried to banish the memory, but good news, I've found a competitor for character*

On Friday I went to Port Talbot, WTAF?

On the positive side, I looked in an estate agents window and I could probably have bought a house if I'd maxed my cards and overdraft. And I don't have very high credit limits .

Oh, dear old Port Talbot. Every time we had to go and see colleagues there we stayed in Swansea. You really don't want to look up what comes out of those chimneys and where the environmental modeling shows it hits the ground.

Grim in the Midlands and the North? Has anyone ever been to Staines or Guildford? Or Portsmouth or Southampton for that matter, or London, Maidenhead, etc etc etc ....

....and then there's Cricklewood.....

Finally being recognised at work for hitting year end targets (I was the only one out of 10 regions), and I'll be getting £150 of vouchers of my choice. Result!

I arrived in Dublin at 6am, I arrived back at the dock at 9:30am for the 3pm ferry (nobody knows why we do this run)... and there's 10 lorries and a Sprinter getting it back. This is not a passenger ferry persay, you can take a car. But there's no one else here. (Last night maybe 50+ of us)

They've shunted a load of trailers onboard, so I guess P&O are making their money that way.

Which means less chance of random drivers talking absolute bollocks (Paul/Mike/Ken talking about how they sued the council for several trillion pounds) and no old man ruining my eyes.

The fact that I'm getting paid for doing fuck all... Plus night-out pay... Plus "ok" free food ain't bad.

....

EDIT: I looked at the check in list. 13 people are onboard the European Endeavour.

On the downside a bottle of Heineken cost me £3.70.

This. Saw it online.

I'm pretty sure I saw him twice in two weeks bombing down the A74.

It’s ‘C’ as I thought it was more internationally accepted :D

Tonight with windchill it will be -50F. Not sure what that is in C. Other than ‘stay in doors’ and wish you were living within a few miles of Phil A!

I've been once.
My dad grew up there in the 40s and has no interest in returning.

Apparently it was a shit hole back then too.

Edmonton or Rhyl? Or both?

Makes sense, says it was in that area. Chap seems to do some miles in it from mot history.
