Disagree.

1) it's italian

2) it's a fiat

3) it's FWD

All things that stop it even being a really good car, let alone the greatest ever.

This place seems to be back in a groove again.

Interesting cars are being posted and worked on, no forum issues and a fair few events happening.

Yeah, that's like walking outside on the first day of your holidays and saying "well, looks like it's going to be cracking weather"

I'm not going to defend that but I do believe that Chinese environmentalism will spread up there and they will clean that up.

However if you think "that's devastation on a whole new scale" then I think you need to open your eyes.

The Canadian tar sands are about 140,000km2, the chernobyl exclusion zone is 2400km2, the Aral Sea was 6800km2, the Torrey Canyon oil slick was 700km2, Deepwater Horizon was 176,000km2, Ixtoc was 2800km2, Bhopal injured 558,000 people and thats not to mention the massive climate disaster which is unfolding in front of us.

Some quick calculations for 150k miles in an EV versus a 40mpg 94g/km petrol would give a saving of;

3750 gallons of petrol

14.25 tons of CO2

72 litres of engine oil

16 litres of transmission oil

3 sets of tyres

3 sets of brake pads

1 set of discs

Now multiply these figures by at least 450,000 (EVs built to date) and add in some extra for the 10million hybrids...

This of course assumes that the car runs on renewable energy, which you don't seem to think is doable...

The UK grid was running over 20% renewables this afternoon when i checked and Scotland (like Portugal, Denmark, Norway and a few others) has managed a full day of renewables on at least one occasion (we don't burn coal up here).

If you want to talk about markets then we really need to mention the trillions in subsidies that fossil fuels get...

A few observations. The proportion of the Athabasca reservoir extractable through surface mining is perhaps 3% of the 140,000km2 and there are quite strict rules about how the stripped land is to be reclaimed after mining is finished. Scotland has never managed a full day of renewables because such a thing is not practicably possible without as-yet unbuilt storage systems and unspecified means of controlling frequency and voltage, and in any case it is part of the UK grid which features mundane practicalities like gas-fired power stations and diesel STOR; statements to the contrary are wishthinking and rather irresponsible, whatever means are used or planned to be used for generating electricity must be practicable, hobbling the economy by destabilising the supply of electricity is a bad idea. Fossil fuel does not receive subsidy(at least not in the UK); tax relief on exploration and production is not a subsidy, it's tax relief.

It doesn't really matter how we collectively power civilisation, extractive industry will be needed to a greater extent and digging holes in the ground makes a mess; as we breed our way toward an 11 figure population the fight is about keeping the mess under control, not about whether the mess gets made in the first instance as that fight is not one that can be won.

the way I see it , is every human person has needs of food , warmth  and has an output of waste matter,  heat , consumables , without even going near a car , pc , house , so 11 billion souls porking  and pooing there way thro the planet , before they even do anything , thats 11 billion body's adding to climate change , then we add on transport , manufacturing , waste  etc !   , then we say  its ok we will change the way we make power and use it !!!!

years from now , aliens in another galaxy will look back at us , see that little speck , one light bulb too many , the planet went into thermal runaway and turned into a mini sun for a week !

I sense an imminent FTP soon.

I found out last week that in certain Protestant areas of Northern Ireland FTP means fuck the pope, I wonder if they do a second take if they ever come on here and see it. As in 'my Vauxhall fucked the pope last night'.

FTP=file transfer protocol too, although I was aware of the sectarian version first.

I like helping people.

Whilst chucking a 2016 Mazda MX5 yesterday around the roads of Stockport on my way to get petrol I noticed a Volvo S40 taxi with a bit of steam coming out of its bonnet and seemed to have trouble proceeding. Dumped the MX5 at the side of the road and ran out to see if I could help Mr Taxi driver. His car FTP'd at a mini roundabout next to the entrance to a Morrisons, he also had a passenger on board. The Morrisons entrance had a slope downwards towards the carpark so I pushed his car (on my own) as far as I could but there was a slight slope upwards on the roundabout so I recuited the help of a couple of passing lads and we got the car to the slope so the taxi driver could steer it into the carpark.

I hope the problem isn't major with the Taxi and that he can get his car fixed.

Also, the 2016 MX5 I've got for the weekend (finally) is a seriously chuckable little fun car that puts a big grin on my face. Unsure if I could live with one. Too small. But it is well fun!

Not mine though thankfully, a favour for another collector as he doesn't know how the motors work! And I'm off to Bedford for another rare cheap one I won last night on ebay...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/news/2017/09/02/TELEMMGLPICT000139085727_trans_NvBQzQNjv4Bq9iE3zOuyeHxS3CNKsoV5sQ1vLvhkMtVb21dMmpQBfEs.jpeg?imwidth=1240

A stolen car found at the bottom of a muddy pond in France is being reunited with its owner - 38 years after the theft.

The Peugeot 104 is in surprisingly good condition except that it was teeming with crayfish when it was hauled out of its watery grave.

Police in Châlons-en-Champagne, 100 miles east of Paris, were alerted on Monday after the car became visible because a drought caused the water level to fall.

Police divers were sent in to check that there was no corpse in the vehicle before it was recovered.

Franck Ménard, a mechanic who towed the car to the garage where he works, said: “It still looks like a 104. The paintwork is still blue and there’s still chrome on the bumpers. It’s amazing. Considering how long it was underwater, it’s really well-preserved.”

He added: “Even the seats are in surprisingly good condition, and they’ve kept their colour — beige. You can still read the number plate.”

The four-door hatchback was an iconic French car in the 1970s and 1980s, as much a feature of the era as flared trousers and disco.

When it was stolen in 1979, the blue Peugeot was four years old and on its third owner. Because it was declared stolen, the rusty runaround is now technically the property of the owner’s insurer.

Went to Crich to look at some trams today - I'll stick summat in the Shite Days Out thread later. Had a great time.

However I was browsing their calendar, and noticed that they had an event earlier in the year for a club called "The Enthusiasts of British Motor Vehicles Built Before 1985".

I immediately thought of Junkman.

I'm glad you've got the time to write stuff like this for us, you must spend most of your life telling people that they are wrong.

Here's a report from the EU about fossil fuel subsidies

http://ec.europa.eu/economy_finance/publications/economic_briefs/2015/pdf/eb40_en.pdf

And here's one from the the IMF

https://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/wp/2015/wp15105.pdf

You'll find similar things from academics, the UN etc

Its a crying shame they didn't come and see you first isn't it.

Think of the time they could have saved.

How do you deal with all these people saying that renewables work?

Have you told Tesla and the Australian government yet?

You could just tweet Elon Musk and tell him not to waste his time, I'm sure he'd listen to you.
