I've got one of those. The styling has aged quite well IMO.

You can't just say that without sharing a picture

Engineering Giants on BBC 4 now.

Strip down of 747-400 CIVX

I worked on that when it was brand new.

Nothing glamorous, mostly cabin light wiring.

Makes me feel old 400 series is still the new model in my book. Got all excited when I saw a 400 freighter with a short upper deck and thought it was a 200.

I'd have to dig one out first, and I don't even know where to start looking for one... bike is currently buried at the back of the garage along with the Katana, waiting for me to make headway with more of my 4-wheeled projects. I have hopes for later in the summer...

I know that one too well my bike is sat under a cover where it's been for the last year unmoved, i have been lazy and tied up with work stuff to do my license though :-(

It occurred to me recently that I should dig my bike out of the garage, then I remembered I'd sold it 4 or 5 years ago.

I have finally found a new stereo for the dollop. Yay! It is exactly the same (I think/hope) as the Rolls Royce one but branded as Alpine this time. I have no idea on the price and it's coming from an Alpine collector in the USA so not going to be cheap but it should slot straight in.

Famous last words above! :)

I know that most of you will be saying that I should just get a new head unit and be done with it, but it's not that simple (never is with the dollop...) as the wiring in the car is totally waffy and seems to confuse the hell out of every specialist audio person who has looked at it. Having a variety of amps in the boot and about 20 speakers seems to add to the confusion. The only way to get a modern unit in is to gut the car, rip out all the stereo wiring/amps/speakers and start from scratch. That,  I fear would cost rather more than the new head unit!

Also, got a touch up pen for the Mazda from the ex Mazda dealer, two stage and only £5.50 including VAT!  It would be more expensive from Halfords (if Halfords did this colour). I was so impressed I have ordered a bit of trim for the door that is bubbling without asking the price. I are idiot!

I saw my n/s/f wheel trim roll round the back of my car,

it was the wrong one and didn't fit properly.

May I suggest that these two facts are not entirely unconnected.

Passed my theory test today, for the second time. Wish I'd actually been so motivated back in 2010 when I did it first time though…. Now, hopefully my practical will go as well, in three months time.

Bit gutted they got rid of the shite-o-rama hazard perception videos and replaced them with awful (and confusingly explained) CGI.

A scabby, 28-year old Citroën estate car, if you hadn't already gathered.

Wandering about Sheffield yesterday I got myself a lovely late '70s Technics turntable to annoy the parents with, and while jaunting about the various charity shops on Ecclesall Road I spotted an F-reg Mazda 121. You know, the bloody Kia Pride one! Was parked next to a VW up! and it was about the same size. Found a DVD of The Day Today too, didn't know the BBC had bothered with a DVD release of that - no more 240p YouTube to watch that then.

I'm going to try and get banned for posting relevant content as well.

Larry S Ceb seems like a fud, his timeline is full of 'celebrity dead now' posts and stuff about Islamic terrorists being daft because they read the Koran.

It disappoints me. Ruins the good name of Autoshite. It is a good name, right?

Compared to the forum I find the FB group very cringey, remember it was only set up as a backup for when the forum has still having problems a few years back although most people in the group wouldn't know that.

I expressed an opinion, based on experience of Renner electrics; Little Lord Larry told me I couldn't do that; I suggested he was in no position to tell me what I was allowed to think; he banned me.

Start/finish: about three minutes...

And the aftermath drama is still on going, the amount of swearing and name calling going on would make you think you'd done something serious!

I'm no prude and all that but the amount of unnecessary swearing on that group is embarrassing.

Banned from facebook is good. Hateful thing.

I thought you fixed the old stereo with soldering free-ness and hope? What happened?

It is indeed fixed. But, the radio is still dodgy and the cassette player has a mind of its own (so one up on me!). The only bit I wanted working was the CD autochanger and that was what was fixed and, as far as I know, still is.

But, I fear its days are numbered.

As I had put out loads of 'feelers' all over the place, when someone found me one, I was 'honour bound' to say 'thank you and how much?' rather than - 'go fuck yourself, I've fixed this one!' :)

So, I will have a brand new old stock unit from an Alpine collector in the states (I honestly didn't know people collected car stereos, but apparently, they do.... a lot!). It is branded 'Alpine' whereas RR made certain mods to the unit including the brand name being deleted. I can live with that!

So, when it arrives, I will probably wrap it up in cotton wool and store it somewhere very safe for the inevitable moment when the old one shuffles off this mortal coil and plays the last retreat, fading away into nothingness as the final chords play....

My horse shit radar pinged yesterday when someone I know's 'will definitely buy your car'. Now, they haven't seen it and obviously not driven it, but want it delivering about 8 miles away.

I said a few times £20 up front or it ain't happening and I just got a few more messages generally ignoring that. 'Are you still coming today, my mate wants the car?'

Yes, once he's viewed or left deposit no problem.

'He can't get to you or he would'

Thinking on my feet I said no problem, I'll come and puck him up in my other car as I'm in the area and it'll save me a trip later on.

This wasn't to their liking so I said its going to be tomorrow now st earliest.

'Ill leave it then mate'

That's why I love a few emails first, or id have gone there tonight and been pissed about for some reason. I'm happy my suspicions were correct and I've saved a load of grief

Good skills!!!! buying and selling a few cheap motors is a great 'life lesson' about people, that is a healthy exercise for anybody. I'm now 40 and very glad that I learned those skills in my late teens and early twenties, as it now means i can enjoy my hobby with minimum external stress caused by penniless/clueless/gormless wankers who havent got a fucking clue.

Just the words 'definitely will' from a buyer is enough to set my twatometer registering, its pretty much a 100% sign that they won't do whatever it is theyre promising.

I am on holiday this week with wifey, child and pals, we are up at Beamish for the "Great War Steam Fair" which starts tomorrow. Had a few days chilling out and exploring, went to Locomotion in Shildon yesterday which was qualz

I drove the low loader up with two of our engines on, this is the furthest north the roller has ever been and only the forth time it's ever been on a wagon! My boss' grandad bought it straight out of work in 1963. It was restored about 20 years ago but seldom used since and I've been working on it all winter to recommission it, we went up the pub a couple of weeks ago which was the first time it had left the yard in 13 years.

If you've never been to beamish it's the dog's wotsits, highly recommended!!

What a fantastic event to be involved in. I've not been to Beamish since I was a kid but really want to go back - which is ridiculous as my mam and dad live in Chester-le-street, I could walk to Beamish from their house.
