  1. I agree about the TT and was seriously underwhelmed with the 911 I drove.....
  2. Disagree - 90s Fords looked extremely similar either side of the Atlantic - Granada vs Taurus. Merkur Scorpio, though short lived was almost identical to the Euro one - unless you'd argue that Europe was influencing the US of course
  3. The coolant temp gauge on R75/MGZT is a BMW design that deliberately operates in a non-linear way. It means that rather seeing a gradually (or even quickly) rising temperature, it jumps from the middle to the high end and by the time it does that you're already in the shit. It seems utterly crazy to me to have a dial to show a representation of coolant temp where the majority of the scale is never used.
  4. Totally agree - never understood why the EU didn’t mandate this, it would have been a good regulation.
  5. I remember "helping" my Dad fit screen washers to my Mum's 1960 Mini (actually badged Austin Seven) - I think it was 1971 or thereabouts - he had to because of the new law.
  6. Cable selection was replaced by rod change after the first 17 months - a cable change Maxi is a rare thing these days. I had one in the late 70s - it wasn't that bad, but the later rod change was better. ETA - the cable change was from the landcrab of course
  7. The screenwash on that Mini would have been an aftermarket addition or an optional extra - the originals weren't fitted with it as it wasn't a legal requirement.
  8. I blame the Americans for this - it's almost ubiquitous on yank motors and so Merc and and others have adopted it. Also seemingly no-one uses their handbrakes in Germany.
  9. BMW part - "German Engineering" Also found on 3 series and possibly other heaps of shit.
  10. Dunno if that Volvo breakers is still run by the same bloke but he was (in)famously grumpy.
  11. Thought I saw you today on the A34 but when I came home and checked the reg I see it was an almost identical van but K reg.
  12. I like the what the Americans would call "ram air" intake - I've never seen the bonnet of one of these up close (and on the underside) so I had imagined something less elaborate.
  13. Trivia - first MOT in Norn Iron is at 4 years - Eng Scot and Wales it's 3.
  14. Yeah I had a summer job there back in the stone age - a lot of the baggage vehicles (one was a Karrier Bantam) were unreg. - no tax (none needed) as they stayed 100% airside. Also true for some tractors that never left the farm - in the olden days at least. My mate bought a 1950s grey Fergie in the late seventies and it got a T suffix plate when he registered it as it was the first DVLA had heard of it. These days it'd have an age related plate, but that was how it worked then - you used to see 50s Chevies with an S or T suffix as that's when they were first UK registered.
  15. I got a front caliper for my 2003 X350 from Rockauto for a decent price - some brake and suspension parts are shared with Lincoln LS so can be had at decent prices from US suppliers. I have an X350 workshop manual saved as a pdf if you want it - just send me PM.
  16. Well yes if you plan on posting any more photos of that or if you plan on wrecking any more and posting pictures of the results.
  17. Right here mister - in my eyes - I can't unsee it now.
  18. That looks awful, like some wannabe pineapple dubber - what's next, NATO paint and a roof rack?
  19. There was a post about the EU yesterday (I'm sure I didn't make it up) - now pffffttt! it's vanished - what gives?
  20. They went through a phase with hydrolastic suspension in the 60's so maybe it was one of those she means.
  21. WTAF is going on with that car anyway?
  22. And some bloke's just turned up over on the blue having bought a 67 Rebel SST convertible.
  23. Eh? how does that work? Like - "hello is that acme odd jobs?, yes, what it is, I need you to come and remove an unstable kitchen unit from the interior of my storage caravan.......yes it is an urgent job, can you get round immediately? I mean it's not sturdy at all" Also WIndows? we don't need no steeekin windows and So which is it Einstein? Does it need the locks or is your magical locking method superior to old fashioned things likes doors, locks, keys etc? FFS, presumably I could climb in through the friggin hole where the window was anyway.
