What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

My dad is a car man. In the sixties he had a couple of jags and an Austin Atlantic. When us sprogs came along he got volvos. The first was a 145S, reg TUS 604G. He still has a V70 diesel.

Anyways, after 40 odd years of sensible family cars and at the age of 73, he turned up at my door last night in this.

It's a V12 6 litre and it's lovely.

Mum says she's been living off tesco blue label for years and dad goes and spends their savings on this!

After a lifetime of scrimping on an agricultural wage, he deserves a wee treat to himself. Only problem is he's a bit self conscious about driving it.

That's just fabulous.

What a beauty! The facelift models, in the right colour and on the right wheels (like this one) look fabulous.

It's on Hirstcabs youtube channel. I don't recall the clicking sequence that got me there.

On 4od yesterday I found some short clips of Guy Martin talking about his passions, one of which is a Rolls Royce Merlin engine.

It is awesome :)

Just been to the printer, happened to look out of the window and saw an immaculate pale green Dyane driving past the office.  Whoever said office work was boring...?

Had the misfortune of being stuck behind one of these piles of shite for AGES the other day. It didn't go above 35 and took about three days to get there. Hopefully Top Gear will take a dislike to them.

Edit: I think we have the wrong thread...

I recommend any Guy Martin stuff where he gets to talk about what makes him tick. He has quite a Dibnah way of describing machinery and manages to get the patronising-technical balance about right.

Today I went in a full works David Sutton prepared original factory Mk1 Escort Twin Cam.

I've waited to go in one of these since I was about 12.

It was better than I'd imagined it could be.

This has made me very happy indeed.

Mention of Guy Martin on a car forum?

Any bike love on here?

If so, watch these

Which one should I submit to the calendar thread - first or second?

First one has more impact. Second one is impressive for the 205 tow vehicle though!

First one does look like some kind of rocket launch.

Reminds me of a budget version of this:

Yesterday I saw 3 men escape death (possibly)

M11 ,lane 3 ,70 mph possibly plus the statutory 23% allowed* by law. In front of me is a tatty Sprinter LWB, heavily laden and at terminal velocity for a rusty 55 plate Sprinter. He had just passed the lorries in lane 1 and 2 and I was thinking about a flick of the indicator or flash of lights to remind him I was late for a Stansted pickup .

Then, you you know how sometimes you fantasise about having steering wheel controlled machine guns to clear the fast lane? Well it was like I did, the offside rear tyre of the Sprinter disintegrated ,causing the van to hit the central barrier ,very hard, then bounce across all 3 lanes and hard shoulder hitting the Armco that was protecting a drop of about 30 feet. It flattened about 100 yards of this barrier ripping off the near side wheel in the process,it then lurched up onto its offside wheels and swerved back into lane 2 before the driver regained control and steered onto the hard shoulder.

How it stayed upright during all this,I can only attribute to it's apparently overloaded state, or possibly it was being driven by Mark Higgins .

All 3 lanes had come to a halt and the motorway was covered in gravel, bits of tyre and random Sprinter parts, the driver got out white faced( which was surprising ,because he was black) waved , gave a thumbs up and everyone just accelerated away.

It did make me think it was probably just as well I hadn't decided to undertake it, and that Sprinter man should buy a lottery ticket tonight.

I never fail to be amazed at the blind faith with which disintegrating Sprinters are driven, flat out....They are the new Cortina Estate (the only vehicle my traffic-cop Uncle used to say overtook his jam sandwich BMW in zero visibility and six inches of rain....)

In fact, he upped the ante suchlike, that I now find myself in zugzwang.
