Just agreed to buy this vespa off a mate. Only 1000 miles on it. Been in his shed for four years. Wcpgw? Worth a punt for a grand? 125cc btw. Seem to go for three or four times the asking price.

Lovely looking thing. Well done

It's a pretty decent old thing,  I was told the two escort guys were a little pissed they got nowt as second and third where an SD1 and a scimitar, both escorts were ghias a mk2 and 3 and very tidy. One of the judges told me that one rear quarter window was none original as didn't have the triple x but other than that couldn't fault the auld viva. All vauxhalls are shite 😁

Were  you herding sheep with it? (looks lovely by te way)

Would have been as much use as a chocolate fireguard as the field was very wet and getting out was slightly interesting.

Yup that they are and I think it looks pretty nice on them rather than the old favourite minilight choice.20231007_090240.thumb.jpg.20a5a3f4c908ee7bb26e493ceafba3cc.jpg

We live in a village with the main road on a slight incline. Out for a walk last week, I heard an unusual sounding diesel coming up the hill, turned out to be a Mk2 Discovery diesel with what must have been a straight pipe exhaust - it sounded like a mini Scania V8 😎

Gave away some bike bits to fellow Autoshiter then prodded wiring on chinese honda then some bloke from house near by popped along. 3 years ago he moved there and had a passing  chat and I repaired his hifi amp {see an Wot have you repaired  topic}  He hasn't used it since repair so asked if i'd want it for nothing.   Am now the owner of this most complex bit of Hifi. It has a selection of concert halls acoustics so Crying Out Loud can play Royal Albert Hall or StadtOpera Vienna rather  than the 3 Lions pub.  Maybe soon for sale as smol flat neighbors not being 10pm Crying Out Loud fans.

Went to pick up the vespa but it's a lot bigger than I thought and too heavy to lift into the van. Connected the battery up and the lights came on but there's not enough charge to spin it over. I've took the battery home to charge and will go back tomorrow and ride it home.

Sunny day so finally lanoguarded the disco. Place bets now on if it will work.

Slight disappoint that in places the buzzweld paint is failing after 2 years. Suppose it's impossible to stop discos rusting, can only slow it down.

Wasn't sure whether to put this in the motor trade or grin thread, but because it's a grin it's going in here.
Customer phoned up a couple of weeks to book in his self diagnosed failed clutch
I asked what the problem is...
"Yeah, the revs shoot up when changing gear"
On the face of it, this sounded like a slipping clutch.
He dropped it off and as I got in it to move it, I was surprised that my knee wasn't touching the headlining by the time the bite point was found - the clutch seemed absolutely fine.
Instead of putting it on a ramp for the clutch to be replaced as requested, even though he's not asked for a diagnosis, I thought I'd take it for a quick spin.
Sure enough, change gear, VROOOOOOM
But, the key difference here is that it went VROOOOOOM when pressing the clutch down... so it can't be slipping can it!!
Redlining it and then dumping the clutch in 4th gear resulted in a nice quick drop of revs, so it definitely isn't slipping...
The engine was holding onto it's revs...
Because....
The clutch pedal position switch was faulty! A £15 part!
Bloody moderns..
In other words, the car didn't know the clutch was pressed so it was building revs up by itself
That could have been an expensive costly error on the customer's part!
I was pretty pleased with myself and for him that I had the foresight to actually give it a quick spin just in case.. The most tragic thing is that he could have spent £500 on a new clutch to find it was exactly the same afterwards..
It gets better my son's bmw 118i clutch starts slipping , ecu figures out rpm and speed don't match parameters and goes into limp mode. At least it saves the flywheel.
I have a small ramp so not too bad to do but Jesus, spend half the night removing and refitting under trays, what an amount of screws.

Charged the battery overnight and it fired first click. We were very surprised.

Not sure what to do with it now.

Successful appeal against a £100 parking charge.

Parked outside a pub in the middle of Thetford in August after a day working at Snetterton, and when I went to the pay machine it said "Not in use".  So I went to the other car park at the other side of the building (run by the same parking company) and paid at the machine in that one.  Got the fine in the post at the beginning of September because of course the camera on the car park I parked in couldn't see that I'd used my initiative and paid to park, just not in the place they wanted me to.  Sent the appeal off instantly with the evidence of the ticket I'd bought, and got a letter back today saying they'd cancelled it.  (The letter however was a standard one saying "we can't find evidence you entered your reg number in our machine but you clearly intended to do so correctly"...my reg number was on the ticket I included with my appeal letter!)

I don’t like the enter reg tickets as you can’t give them to anyone else if you’re only there for 15mins.

Even that is surprisingly pragmatic for a parking firm though mind.

@Mrs6C there's an alternative way of doing things - instead of towing the canal boat behind the car, tow the car behind the canal boat.

A bit different to my experience

A free car park for decades  i use regularly was sold and the new owner introduced a £1 parking charge paid by machine , valid from 00:00 to 23:59

They don't want the £1 , they want the £100 if you forget, or enter an incorrect digit  which they generously reduce to £60 if you just pay up.

I'd driven in , stayed 3 hours , forgot to pay , left,  went back an hour later and paid

Got a ticket ( invoice) , appealed because I had a ticket for that reg , purchased that day that read valid 00:00- 23:59

They rejected my appeal stating that ticket didn't cover the previous period  , offered advice ( veiled threat) that if I decided to appeal to POPLA I'd lose the £60 fine and be charged £100 if I lost the appeal

I ignored their veiled threat and appealed to popla,  as soon as I did they removed their evidence and dropped the case because they knew if it went to court they'd lose.

They're bullies , they scare people into paying.
