A 21-year-old computer-science student has won a global contest to read the first text inside a carbonized scroll from the ancient Roman city of Herculaneum, which had been unreadable since a volcanic eruption in AD 79 — the same one that buried nearby Pompeii. The breakthrough could open up hundreds of texts from the only intact library to survive from Greco-Roman antiquity.

Luke Farritor, who is at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, developed a machine-learning algorithm that has detected Greek letters on several lines of the rolled-up papyrus, including πορϕυρας (porphyras), meaning ‘purple’. Farritor used subtle, small-scale differences in surface texture to train his neural network and highlight the ink.

I've been talking to the council man about the dog shit man further down the road. Council man wants to nobble him so has been thinking of schemes to use my evidence without attributing it to me.

He's phoned up today to say he's issued him a £100 fine for dog fouling. Er, what about evidence? Oh I'll come up with something if he challenges the fine.

Bonus is dog shit man thinks he's been grassed up by cunt next door. So my car should be safe from damage. Be hilarious if he starts a war with CND in revenge.

No chance of running the lecky from my window though have some slightly shady plans. Can run lights off my leisure battery for now.

Not tried yet though looks like the dingo might fit even with the rack on.

Garage are on it this morning. The ex @Alan Prost Carina E was dropped-off yesterday PM, MoT already done:

Just advisories on the windscreen and rear plate.

Should now be having a service. Pleasingly the misfire appears to be clearing itself, particularly after a satisfying 105-mile round trip on Tuesday. Maybe running some expensive E5 through it is cleaning things up? It was barely noticeable on the short drive to the garage yesterday.

I lost a good friend last week in a motorcycle accident. He was 42 years young and leaves behind a wife, two sons, a loving family and countless friends both here in the UK and NZ were he was born and died. Theres no grin there its very sad.

I find in these times you take what you can. This good man lived his life and was 100% in all he did.

This he would of loved. And it made me grin.

I'm extremely jealous!

I'm a simple man, if I won the lottery first thing on the list would be a huge barn to use as a workshop, second would be a second barn next door to fill with the shite that I'd inevitably collect.

Bing! Bini gets another year.

Will need rear subframe doing this time around - just Lanoguarded it last time (rear shocks also got an advisory as did both rear tyres which are at the wear marks and a front suspension bush which I didn't know about)
New tyres Monday, collect subframe Tuesday, should be fitted by Christmas :-)
Need to suss out the front bush if the rain goes off  - hopefully he's marked it.

I think there's something wrong with me

I've had this supercharged l322 for over a year and I love everything about it , , enough tech without too much tech , it doesn't even beep at you for not wearing a seat belt

I've  got no money in it as man maths tells me it's absorbed the 3k I've got in it by not exploding in the last 12 months

so why am I constantly looking at other cars like I'm looking for my next fix when this one does it all.

Still I suppose it's better than looking at other women , that will empty your bank account.
