What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Recommended Posts

As reported on the News thread, I hoped yesterday would be Grinding Monday. It turned out to be Tickling Monday, though I was only taking the sparkly stick to test pieces and no, I'm not posting pics 'cos most of it was bird shit...

The grin? I attempted due diligence and put my ancient welding rods in the oven for a half hour before taking them out. The expected disdain from Mrs CW did not materialise. (That's not the grin). Plus I was glad to find that they didn't release any nasty rod-type odours to contaminate the oven. (No, that's still not the grin). When I sparked up several of the rods, it turns out the oven had contaminated them....

They smelled of cinnamon.  :-D

Google says that was 1968!

It was! I was 8 or 9. I haven't watched the film since. We got to go to the premier because one of my Mums 'boyfriends' had money in it (producer?) and it was an experience. You have to remember, I am effin' old!

I was at the other end, if you saw a ginger beard within an 'Van Helsing/Underworld' outfit then that was me.

Damn good wasn't it? We now appear to be trying to find out when the other parts of the championship are to plan trips around.

If you're effing old I must qualify as time expired coffin dodger (1946). But a good year, like wine vintages?

Your honour, it’s a steering lock and in no way did I mean to wallop the prick who cut me off.

^it was self defense your honour he was threatening with violence and that he was going to kill me then reached into his pocket as if to grab a knife or even worse a gun so scared for my safety I grabbed the first thing to hand to protect life and limb and knocked him to the ground using what i believed to be reasonable force in the situation

Dodge 50 snowplough at work in Cumbria in the 'paper

Edit: actually a Reynolds Broughton

There’s an RB44 that’s liveried up for a pub at the bottom of Hardknotts Pass in the Cumbria.

Wtf is a Reynolds Broughton?

That is genuinely a new one on me.

Some sort of buyout project like Bedford / AWD?

LOL yes it was good and I did exactly the same to try and find out where they would be on again. Turned up sod all though.

I might have seen you. Does your other half have very red hair?

Military version of the Dodge 50, I guess some were bought by county councils too.

I have a few bits on the bay. Usually that's a grump and I have had a few daft offers for things (will I ship to Spain/Malaysia/Gabon) type questions on a UK only listing. The usual thing.....

But today I got a message about a pair of Nike trainers I am selling for Parky Jr. They are darn fine shoes and not cheap, a limited edition he bought for his birthday from Niketown on Oxford Street. He made the mistake of saving them for best but as expected he has outgrown them so off to the bay they have gone.

Got a message from a guy asking whether they were definitely kosher (there is a big trade in counterfeits, I have been caught out twice) and I sent him a pic of the inside label so he could check their countenance. I explained we bought from the main store as I had been caught out before so I was 100% confident in them.

His reply - "you are a good father, I wished my dad had taken me shopping for shoes when I was small"

Now he is probably buttering me up hoping to get them cheap, but a compliment from a stranger is something I will take every day of the week!

If only he wasn't based in China......so expect to see a trainer based grump on the grumpy thread in a couple of days.

At least there are 12 watchers and three days to go. Fingers crossed someone domestic jumps in

I found these 2 pages dated 1965 wedged in a Bedford brochure that I found today.

This would go with the Wagon R desert survival version on the e-bay tat thread.

Wonder if anyone ever bought a basic Cresta with a 3 sped manual. No PAS or armrest, but more unlikely , no heater! On a big 'executive' car in the mid sixties.

Interesting to see that only the Cresta de Luxes (and no other model) in that list had the option of overdrive - a whole 54 quid extra, equivalent to £992   at today's prices.

When did manufacturers and dealers over here stop using the term "ex-works", which is still used in Ireland?

I dunno if this is competitive or not, but we plan to go to this http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/whats-on/grand-medieval-joust-bolsover-castle-27-08-2017/

And no, I know who mean & that wasn't us. My other half is dinky & blonde (with pink ends*).
