You know those £5 Polish car washes that are always a fiver? I've found one that I'm halfway in. There using lambswool mitts, theres no price and they have 2 Alsatians... If I die, I liked some of you.

They seem to do the job properly.

When I had the Volvo 240 estate it was always "Your car, big car" with hand held out for an extra £2

He opened the door "What do you want?" in my head it was an Albanian accent, (Maybe Polish) I was tempted to say "I want my daughter back"

Anyway wash was £5, Wash and dry £7, Wash and wax (the usual spray-liquid type) £9 or "something wax" for £10.

They spent maybe 3-4 times longer cleaning the car than the usual places, who want you in and out as quick as possible. These guys actually spent time cleaning the cars. They seduced me with their hard work and so I paid the tenner. It's not perfect, but it saved me spending 2 hours washing it... and I shall return.

I used to use “Hand Car†Washes a lot but I have found that the traffic film remover or what ever chemical they spray on strips the polish of the older cars with poor paint and leaved them streaky. Also they can get too close with the pressure washer and remove paint. I have cut back on usage now.

I've been putting off fixing the Scirocco because replacement dizzys cost £200+ new, or £90+ refurbed and I need the £90 elsewhere currently.

Had a casual glance on eBay; one with 3 hours to go second hand for £5.

Come on winning bid!

Did a bit of shite collecting for a mate this morning. Possibly the address should've given me a clue to the sort of chaps I'd be dealing with

There's one 2 mins up the road from me

They charge a fiver for anything with 4 wheels for just a wash.

They always take their time and do a good job on the P38 and the mrs' Disco 3,which is ebony black and it shows up like a bstd if they miss a spot

Speaking of which,Disco passed its mot today after fitting a pair of front tyres.

I'll treat it to an oil and filters change to celebrate

Whilst waiting on the mot,the Mrs papped these and sent them over

Lady_Andy18s needs to be on here with her own spotting thread as a bare minimum.  She's demonstrated all the requirements going to the extra length to pap that BX.

Montrose? I picked up a trailer from there for a friend, was a bit worried when I rocked up but the seller was a gent and the trailer legit.

Expectations and prejudices confounded.

More A4 messing today (does Old Man ever do any work?).

Replaced the badly painted mirror with one with a working motor, tinted glass and better painted housing without any overspray, easier job than expected, only niggle is getting the locking pin to locate putting the door car back on. With parts lying around we've enough to make a spare.

Also had a look at the projector headlamp - to get it in you have to cut a bit of the front wing off that's used for mounting the prefacelift indicator, it fouls on the later light units. Wiring is easy though as it's all colour coded.

Washed the Insight today as it had been 'amusingly' drawn on by drunken revellers about 4 this morning ( I heard them out there but couldn't be arsed and the dogs would have gone ballistic). I used baby shampoo!

Carrying buckets of water out to rinse it off have made an old man even older! I was praying for rain, it's looked like it would at any moment all day, but of course, when I wanted it to, it didn't - rain water rinse, just God helping out :)

As funny as it sounds I was given the tip about baby shampoo to wash my car, this was from a guy who does detailing for a living on high end stuff.

Aye Montrose. I managed to get back out intact although I could see the older fella was trying to work out how much scrap metal was in trailer. They were very friendly and very keen to say it's got great engine only a couple of hundred thousand miles or so

Just glad they never spotted the galvanised chassis  :-P

Apparantly baby oil works a treat on the bodywork of deloreans. So I was told anyway

I'm having a right mare with cars at the moment.

Firstly the Sierra goes off for its welding, dad fitted new some valve stem seals for me, the garage takes it for its mot where it breaks down so they get it back and drain all the old fuel out of the tank and replace it with fresh. Again it cuts out, it idles fine but as soon as the revs are up it cuts out. I thought it was the fuel pump but a mate says it's probably the swirl pot and to completely do away with it and bypass it.

Meanwhile it goes back to the garage again today and fails on the handbrake so I won't be getting that back again this weekend, dad says the adviories sheet is 4 pages long but I'm hoping he's on a wind up.

Then onto the Dolly, I ordered a pair of brake pistons for it of Mevspares which when they arrived on Wednesday ended up being a pair of caliper repair kits so I rang up and complianed, then today my replacement pistons turned up although they weren't pistons but another pair of caliper repair kits! I wasn't very happy and made a very grumpy phone call.

I was hoping to get the brakes finished this weekend and the car home but that's now set me back at least a week.

A couple of days back, I came across a scruffy old Polo on ebay... It was listed as "spares or repair", with a long list of faults and pictures that did little to hide the fact it was royally fucked.

I carefully considered the fact that I already have seven cars in various states of disrepair and the fact that I really, really hate VWs. I then proceeded to make a derisory bid "just for fun", convinced that the VW fanboys would bid the car to stratospheric levels, as usually happens.

To cut a long story short, I now have eight cars in various states of disrepair. Great.

I had 3 years and 30,000 trouble free miles out of my Polo. All it ever cost me were petrol, tyres and a set of front brake pads, mate

Lol, nearly happened to me aswell. When I got paid out for my Merc, I stuck a bid on a W210 Mercedes E430 4.3. Thankfully (or maybe not) I got outbid a few days later, it only went for £150 more than I bid.

This is why working on or even the thought of working on old cars just now makes me feel really sleepy,

Been down the post office and had my first experience experience taxing a tax and mot exempt bike,oh and that needed the tax class changing to historic!

I'm always a firm believer that making the miserable old hag behind the counter smile works wonders, when she asked whether it was taxed,I replied that the last time it was taxed Sweet were at number 1 :-) lol

Anyway i had filled loads of forms in anticipation and none were needed, all done with a few taps of the keyboard

Most post office staff do want to help, some though always get out of bed on the wrong side.

Or even decide to pocket the odd note- my grandmother never miscounted money, twice the local po said she was £20 short, despite her counting it out in front of me and my dad. The same po tried to charge my dad for a small packet at twice the weight he'd weighed At home. He said no, took it to another po and had it sent at the correct cost. That shop- used to be a news agents before being a po, had been overcharging for forty years. As a child in the 70s they tried it on -yes you have paid for eagle but not this month's, sold chocolate a year out of date too- got an apology from cadbury's for that in the 1980s. Top grump, but hey it's Friday.

Commenced work on changing the sump bowl on S-Daughters 306 on Wednesday evening, got 8 out of 13 bolts undone whilst lying in a puddle of stinky oil. Only took an hour; which included two fag breaks and some I K Brunel style inventiveness with a trolley jack, two axle stands and some bricks.

Restarted work this afternoon, 4 out of 5 fixings unfixed in 20 minutes. 45 minutes on the last one, and some creative swearing. Would the bowl come off?

Would it BOLLOCKS.

Held in place by a captive bolt at one end and what appears to be an engine or gearbox mount at the other, exhaust underneath, it would move to within 5mm of getting free, but no, it wouldn't come off. (90 minutes spent shouting and hitting it)

had to remove the exhaust downpipe bolts to give me an extra inch of movement, they obviously came off easy*.

Off now, hopefully replacement is not the opposite of removal.

FRENCH TWAT.
