A demonstration vehicle came into the yard about half an hour ago.

I can see that lasting well on a rural round, though it is a narrow chassis (7ft 2in)

It never rains but it pours. 1 car written off and awaiting me to fix it. Replacement car lasted less than 24 hours after repair at a garage and is back again with the same fault, and now my mum's '93 Astra has broken down with some very odd symptoms, running on 2-3 cylinders and no brake servo assistance? I think it's got either a head gasket gone or burnt a valve out, seen the 1.4 SOHC do that before. More spannering on the horizon!

Did a compression test on mother bungle's Astra, #1+2 plugs looked good while #3+4 looked a bit unhealthy.

Cylinder 3, zero, and the sound changed as gasses were being pushed out of #4 plug hole. Conclusive head gasket fail, time to order parts!

Love it but also find it hurts my eyes as well.

Sorry, it was blasting left and then right. Snapped a pic on the move when it returned.
Despite appearances, taking photos of passing automotive fantasies is not my day job.

I think the odd proportions of the car hurt the eyes, no matter how good the photography!

Some highlights of my visit to the Transport Museum in Bratislava yesterday. Well worth a visit if you are visiting Bratislava.  Not sure if you went on your visit @Rust Collectorbut I'd recommend it for next time if you didn't

Morning London fleamarket find. It's 1976 last year at Earls Court. 197 printed pages of goodness. Not bad at £2.

Having the windscreen changed as well as chopping 18" from the floorpan really messed up the proportions of the Audi .

Don't forget it was an homologation special (S1 E2) for Group B rallying and was never really a 'road' car ...

This... The reason for the oddness is what makes it cool

Also, I'm not sure they were great lookers even before that, so nothing was really lost. I still think it's just a case of "Emperor's New Clothes" that 1970s and 1980s Volkswagen products are generally considered to look good, but that's another matter!

Biking at Coed-y-Brenin today. My so-called mates have gone off to do The Beast trail, which I did last year and didn't enjoy. So I've gone rogue to do some more of the easier trails which I do actually enjoy, rather than endure.

We have hired Specialized Levo e-bikes which are incredible machines. An invisible hand propels you up inclines making one feel like some sort of Tour de France winner.

I haven't fallen off (yet) but there's still time. Pics to follow once I find a signal or WiFi

You can can tell its a Škoda by the door handles but it has Renault wheels. I've seen pictures of what is essentially an Estelle bodyshell with the Renault 12 oily bits fitted but I've never seen this.

This is also a Å koda. Known locally as Laminatka because of their fibreglass cabs. Date from the late 60s.

The Slovaks still have a couple of these in passenger service but they don't have any set diagrams, they just fill in when the newer ones (1980's Škodas) aren't available. Usually on the Bratislava to Nové Zámky route. There are still plenty on freight work in both Czech and Slovakia (and the odd one in Hungary too) snapped a couple here in Břeclav last year. The one on the right is different but still a Škoda.

I'm going back to Brno in January and am planning a day trip to Slovakia. I will be changing trains in Bratislava but it might be a bit late but I might have time to peer over the fence.

This is the front engine/rear drive prototype they speak of. Note the longer front wing (most notably the gap between the wheelarch and front door).

And this is the front wheel drive one which looks much like a normal 120. You would think, to keep it behind the Iron Curtain they could have used a Dacia 1300 but it definitely says Renault 12.

Currently sat about 10 cars behind an accident scene on the M25. I've switched the car off because we're obviously not going anywhere any time soon.

We've been stationary for about half an hour and numerous fire engines and ambulances have come past.

I would complain but I suspect someone just up the road is having a much worse day than me. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

Piss count: just about 0.

A couple of months ago I Whatsapped a link to a friend about a Triumph for sale in East Anglia. He was interested in a 1300 in Orkney, but worried about the practicalities of getting it back to West Cork, so I thought the other car might be a more practical proposition. I met him today and found that he went over and bought it weeks ago, but didn't bother telling me.Screenshot_2024-11-17-20-13-18-504_com.android.chrome.jpg.f9dcc45cb01e949c99fc1ab1ecb81515.jpg

This is what £400 gets you these days - a running, driving, fully functional air suspensioning, 4.6 engining Range Rover (VOGUE, dontcha know?) with some tasty accessories, which is neato under the grime and nearly immaculate inside. Bought it to break for bits for my other one but it's so spectacularly good that I'm sticking it in for an MOT instead. Just need to fix the non-functional driver's door!

And the number plate has most of my initials on it!!!

Still regretting passing the ex @HMC 4.6 P38 as I had another RR I was very much interested in. 400 quid sounds like a bargain.
