News News News - but only if you are going South, ie Portugal for those going on Easter Hols.

There is an indefinite strike of petrol tanker drivers that is causing problems. Lisbon and Faro airports have run out and flights are already being cancelled.

Sadly not, knew we were going to just miss each other, we both made plans that when combined meant we would never be closer than a 100+ miles this week.

Did Bucketer scarper out of sight before you got there and discovered an empty wine cellar? ;)

Bloody Hondas and their HGFs, eh ?

Tough break, mate - gutted for you :(

Don't think it's HGF: system pressurised (failed rad cap?) and blew a hose which dumped the coolant onto the inlet manifold hence simulated HGF. Even so the fucker overheated on a smart motorway so I couldn't stop right away, thankfully the services was less than a minute after I noticed. It got home okay (after summoning my dad to help/bring more coolant and tools) but I was thinking of engine swapping it anyway.

I'm currently in talks with the current owner of my old 416GTi. (130bhp twincam D-Series, will drop in to the Civic). He's willing to sell and even better, the car is back in Manchester. I've suggested I buy it back minus anything of value as an engine donor then scrap the shell. In reality that car will never have anything done to it, and I know it has a good engine, so if its heart can live on that's probably enough.

I seem to be soul bound to Rovers...

Is that the one with the blue interior? I thought it was a rather unusual spec and looked pretty decent from the photos at the time.

Yah!

Ok. So it’s got a few minor problems a good service will sort, but it passed and ready for action next month.

Meh, it's better than I can do, and if it works who cares what it looks like!

Yeah, it's better than I managed on the MR2 manifold.

On that note, just ordered the parts I need to "custom" make a system for it

The ex DH31 Puggy 405 got treated to a new exhaust today.
It had been slightly fruity sounding ever since I got it but not enough to worry me, but a week or so ago when the car was laden with books & CDs helping a mate move house, the backbox decided it wanted a better view of the scenery than being strapped to an old French car's underbelly allowed it and made a bid for freedom on one of Glasgow's famous potholes, so it's been sounding more like an unsilenced tank than a civilised Froggy cruiser of late.

Can't claim to done any of this myself other than phoning my tame mechanic, and counting a wad of notes into his hand on completion. It's amazing how quiet a car with a whole exhaust system sounds after you've been used to driving with one that terminates under the driver's seat...

This, however, was all my own work.

Looks much like the mess I made of my Acclaim's downpipe. Works grand apart from all the bits where it blows.

Many Saab parts have arrived over the last few days. Managed to find a good 2nd hand manifold with all the gubbins complete (and working) for under a hundred quid including shipping, by buying from Germany. Total spend £120.

I have a busy weekend, so better start watching car repairing videos on YouTube and not get distracted by DollyWobbler's channel.

Many thanks to Saabnut for the loan of the timing tool. I will return it with some local delicacies.

I’ve had a tough day mostly sitting outside reading. Although I did clean two cars and two bicycles.post-8687-0-31539400-1555609628_thumb.jpeg

If anyone wants a similar view my neighbour has just told me they’re moving next month. Off to Virginia water and the wentworth estate! It’s not listed yet, but I’ll keep you informed- three bedroom, thirty foot ceilings and £900 last quarter gas bill- thirty foot ceilings get very cold. Could be £3000ish. Laughably whilst looking on rightmove to where they are moving, I found a very nice mansion listed in Virginia water at £70,000 a month!https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-68867695.html

Daily Audi A4 has passed its MOT today, with no advisories.

I had got to thinking testers were putting these on for fun, or to cover their arses. However, faith restored.

My wiper arm puller was delivered today, wee beastie it is too. Cracked both wipers off their tapers on the Audi with a bang and sealed up everything on the scuttle in sight. Hopefully that will cure the water ingress in the drivers footwell.

I thought I wouldn't use the puller again but the 172 wipers will need to come off to replace the washer bottle.

I've found that those tools only last a couple of times before the teeth on the end get out of shape. When they do, you tighten it up and you think moving but it's just taking the paint off the arm. Watch out for that!

£7.99 buys you two side repeater fittings from eBay from a random ex-Honda Civic owner.

After spending two months marvelling at the skills* of the 620 to reject it's nearside fitting for no reason whatsoever aside from looking at it in a menacing, 'seen it before, m8' way(and having to put up with neighbours saying FTFY), one of the two sent to me slid in with a satisfying click and ended with an elegant two-fingered salute to my meddlin' neighbours.

I do like cheap 2 minute fixes very muchly.

Singing at the Royal Albert Hall (choir!) today. Am on the High Speed Train and it really is bloody marvellous. Was very nervous yesterday so I cleaned the Golf in a state of panic. That takes a lot of motivation. It was disgusting.

I have returned from the viewing of today’s slice of gold and the news I have to report is.... I came home alone. Sadly. I went to view this:

Fairly bloody smashing it was but I just didn’t want it when I was there, nothing sinister at all about it but a list of little things that turned me off. Such a genuinely nice vendor too, I don’t doubt he’ll sell it to a lucky buyer very soon. Sorry folks, I think I’m clinically dead.

Here’s the closest I’m going to get to 320touring’s guess today

BMW is getting worse again. Same symptoms as before. Attempted cutting out, difficult restarts (not all the time though, normal starts are on the dot) only today has all this become apparent.

I'll get it fixed but I'm pondering a clear out of both BMW and Vectra and buying something boring like a 320d estate in e46 form. Best of both worlds I reckon.
