I thought the same, if those tyres were a size wider they would rub on the arches!

I forgot until I just watched DW one weekend two shows video, I also went to the 2CV rally after SF, but with my Visa and found a buddy for it.

Arse. Nippa has run out of brakes.

Now discovering once again the downsides of unusual motoring. This is going to be costly...

Pretty ashamed by that, but I think both calipers are sticking. Still some pad left on the offside, but both sides feel stick to turn. Must admit I can't remember the last time I had the front wheels off. Probably hasn't happened since it had new steering rack gaiters fitted when we got it. Two years ago...

Euro Car Parts has some front pads for £15 (up to £33 if you want Brembo), but no discs.

Teeny-tiny update on the Astra

Polished the little bugger up over the weekend, being a pearlescent colour it came up really well indeed.

I went across to the scrappy's and purchased a second-hand bonnet cable and a set of genuine Astra mats for just £10. The driver's mat is worn out so I'm after a replacement. The other three came up like new with a scrub. Turns out there are already locking 'pins' in the carpet which suggests they had mats like this fitted when the car was new.

The bonnet cable was stretched beyond repair so it was binned and a new cable installed, not too much of a taxing job - the only fiddly bit was seating the grommet that goes on the bulkhead. The reason why the bonnet wouldn't open became clear. The adjusting clip that holds the cable taut was completely missing, so the cable just moved about where it felt like it. Clip fitted and now the bonnet opens and closes perfectly.

I have also started to dabble with adding OEM stuff. I managed to find an indicator stalk with cruise control in my box of bits, which I have fitted. Just need to Tech-2 it and I will then have working cruise! (clutch switch is present)

And I've bought a replacement turbo, in good working order for a bargain price. No apparent wear or play in the turbine rotors so all seems okay. I will farm this job out to my mechanic, who will then M.o.T it once it's been done. Then it should* be ready to drive again....

Have a moody picture.

You need a maintainance regime . Like six weekly inspections that lorries get

Yeah, I got lazy, because it was clocking up fewer than 3000 miles a year. It's been doing rather more lately, and I hadn't accounted for that. Plus, the service I gave it a couple of months ago was little more than throwing fresh oil and filters at it in a blind panic, because life has been so busy. It's why the 2CV's paint job STILL isn't finished. In fact, that's due a service in another 3000 miles. Then there's the Bluebird to get finished, and the Honda still needs its oil and fuel filters fitting. I think maybe I need to hurl some more jobs to the local(ish) garage...

Well, Inverness isn't happening because the van I'm meant to be picking up has been postponed yet another day so I have a car from Blairgowrie to Merseyside. Going home in that though. This is almost a reverse of the trip I ded tae Scotland a year agoo. Och aye.

Enjoy* the weather, its battered down here for hours.

It's gishing down over this side too, making up for accidentally letting the sun out the other day.

Er yeah. Basically, I entered Scotland on Monday evening and left around 4pm, it hadn't stopped raining the whole time I was there. In Aberdeen, one of my shoes got wet inside, the other one was almost as wet inside so after getting my car from Blairgowrie, I ended up driving home from around Carlisle in my socks to let both my feet, socks and shoes dry out.

If I had been anywhere near AS today I might have been able to help there. I've just got back from Stranraer.

It's been pissing it down everywhere to be fair. We had a massive downpour here, just as the gas bottle needed changing...

MATS MAN ALERT

Most Vauxhalls + other manufacturers have locking pins in them but sadly not all of thier cars will have had thier mats when new. They are still an option at dealers.

I'm old and out of touch. In my day when you wanted a van to look like this you bought an Austin J2 for 50 quid and used it over the winter. Not any more...

My RIng Automotive tyre inflator just tried to kill itself (and my car) by means of fire. The fuse wasn't straight inside the casing and it got hot enough to start melting it so it shant be used again. Anyone have any suggestions for it's replacement?

I like to think I've got a fairly open mind for ratlook and pineappled stuff, but that looks absolutely shit, and I bet it's even worse in the flesh. Let's hope they haven't made too much of a mess of the black paint when trimming the wrap so it can come off when the owner finally comes to terms with the fact that they wasted about a grand on shitty sticky back plastic and peels it off.

I bought a cheap 12v tyre inflater with a gauge  from B&M (close relative of Home Bargains) - thought it must be half-decent with an RAC logo on the box for £8.

It's shit - no on/off button, less puff than an asthmatic pensioner and the gauge is about as effective as one of those plastic compasses you used to get in Christmas crackers.

I'll use it for balloons when I dress my car up as Santa's sleigh (files in hoarding room...)

The best tyre inflators I've found are the ones included in cars with the emergency tyre gunk. You know almost instantly when a tyre compressor is shit if the pressure gauge goes up to 300psi.

The Renault/Dacia one from my Duster is amazing!

Due to go back in tomorrow following my sinus op but I still feel like shit - face and teeth are sore. Having trouble getting another note as GP wont give me one and neither will hospital - only the surgeon can provide me with one.

All this has made me realise how ill I have been for the last two years.

I had to jump off a BMW 530d last night and despite industrial leads it wouldn't start straight away so left the old Merc 300SE jump car idling for 5 mins then tried again. This time it started but managed to stall the Merc as it did so despite the Merc having a strong idle, - about 750rpm in neutral and about 550 rpm in D.  I've not seen this before.

We have had the "barrie'd" look.   How about the "Valerie" spec for all this fucking fablon nonsense....
