Wowsers!

The ebay seller that sent me the wrong rear brake hose for my CBX750F asked me to cancel the eBay return case that I'd instigated as apparently they couldn't exchange parts with an active returns case... this sounded a weeny bit suspicious to me, but I decided to trust them.

The new - and correct - brake line arrived in the post today :-D

I'm old and out of touch. In my day when you wanted a van to look like this you bought an Austin J2 for 50 quid and used it over the winter. Not any more...

attachicon.gif20170515_1953192.jpg

What a bag of shit; it doesn't even look like a shitey old van looks. That's the wrap equivalent of a 4 year old who's raided mum's make-up box and gone for quantity over quality.

Pretty sure they're breaching eBay policies there but fair play they actually did what they said

They're actually right...if you've got a returns case opened, eBay can at their discretion give you a full refund and take the money back from the seller...if they've already sent you the replacement, they're out of pocket whereas if they just exchange the bits, everyone's happy.

That's why the first recourse should be to message the vendor outside the somewhat rigid ebay dispute system, you only need that if they don't give satisfaction.

Ebay have made it harder to contact sellers as when you click to send them a message you have to pick a reason. If you tell the truth that it is a wrong part etc ebay automatically start a case. This is really annoying as all you really wanted to do was talk to the seller rather than setting the ebay attack dogs on them. Another case of the messing ebay seem to think they have to do all the time. As a medium to sell tat it has gone way downhill, but what the hell it is great for chinese companies who want to flog their shit here and dodge the VAT.

^^^ That's pretty much what happened, I only wanted to contact the seller to get the part swapped.

The best tyre inflators I've found are the ones included in cars with the emergency tyre gunk. You know almost instantly when a tyre compressor is shit if the pressure gauge goes up to 300psi.

Specially made for these-

Well just got home from a wet few days in cornwall. Over the last 6 days Shonky the BX has been to Shitefest and Looe completing a total of 785 miles without a hiccup. On the run to Cornwall she achieved 59mpg average. I think I can safely say she's had a good shakedown run now.

The LDV Pilot post bus has just been driven away by the mechanic for some bodywork and MOT. This is the first trip it's made under it's own steam since I replaced the engine with a used unit. Will it make the 30 mile drive to the guys workshop? Who knows????

FTP in the ZX today. AA bloke diagnosed split priming bulb causing diesel to spray everywhere.

Got it going and drove it slowly to a local old school place. The guy knows them and said he'll make sure it's a good price...

Also he gave me his number as he's really into old cars and even told me a decent local scrapyard! Not all bad eh.

Sounds like a good place to know in your line of motors!

Finally popped the missing horn/rear fogs fuse into the Streetshite today but as anticipated straight away without laying hands on the horn button

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Hurriedly removed fuse.

Royal pain in the ass - now have to get the SCU out from behind the glovey and send it off to a dude in Brighton who specialises in these things, and doesn't charge the earth. He'll need to fit five new relay switches, and a new IC chip, but he can program me a new fob (I only got one) and also twiddle around with the box so it takes off the annoying 'speedlock' feature enabled in later Rovers (go above 5 mph and it auto locks the central locking - to let people out you have to either have to turn the engine off or blip the plip).

Suspect that I have finally sussed out the reason for the occasional non starting situation with the Saab. Only happens after a run. Never from cold. Turn the key, and.... Nothing. Wait. Turn the key again.... Nothing. Wait.... Starts. Suspected faulty Neutral safety switch ( is an auto). Jiggling the shift lever usually*helps.

Turns out it's not just the French who piss about with fitting different brake systems. Apparently the Nippa could have Akebono brakes, or Sumitomo. No obvious logo on the calipers, so how am I meant to tell the difference? Doesn't help when folk just use generic stock photos on Ebay listings - no clues!

At the moment, I'm minded to strip the calipers, grease all that needs greasing and fit new discs and pads and hope for the best. Finding new calipers, or rebuild kits, looks like a right pain in the arse.

Finally got the pads out. What a ballache! Held in with pins, the bottom of which was seized pretty much solid. However, I have been able to confirm that it has Sumitomo brakes at least.

New brake bits on order. Next, I'm off to the local garage to see if they can shift the bloody oil filter on the Honda. I've asked them to change the fuel filter too, because I can't be arsed to make myself stink of super unleaded.

All of which means bugger all progress on the Bluebird, but then parts aren't going to arrive until next week. I would like to be able to drive it one day though... (MOT runs out on Monday. Bother).

Clio man's sheds/drive got flooded. The Renaults got drowned and are in the process of being dried out, the Dolly 1850 also filled with water but it's got so many holes in it all the water just drained out again. QWOLITY MOTOR CAR. He's going to swing by the 1300's garage and check that it avoided drowning.

Another guy I know up that way had his Morris Minor submerged up to the top of it's wheel rims inside it's garage. Bad times. :(

Bum, ZX still at garage. Primer bulb replaced but still taking an age to crank, heard it spluttering down the phone with the garage. Glow plugs also being done. I suppose this breakdown at least forced it all to be done....

In other news, getting a train tomorrow to collect a car. Something I've never driven or ridden in either...

You will know why when you try riding one. There is so much flex in the front forks that I assumed the front axle bearings had fallen apart. No, that's just how they roll.

1. Just had a teeny tiny hole fixed and painted on the fiat's rear valance.

2. Same bodyshop now has the Mercedes back to fix the paint on the front wings, again.

3. Just spent half an hour on the phone to my Citroen mechanic friend about a 1949 Citroen traction 11BN for sale - ex Chris Goffey, but a wurthers original colour and leather interior for £12k. Not for me! The price seems ok, but there's nothing for me to do apart from paint it black and get rid of the cream interior.

Was that the one at Shitefest?

It's 6.30am on a Saturday, I haven't had anywhere near enough sleep, and I'm about to embark on a 130-mile drive in a slightly shonky 45-year-old car which has almost certainly never made a journey of that length in its life.  WCPGW?

Up early can't sleep. Having thoughts about my latest purchase it has a really bad wine coming from the belt area! I new this before I bought it! My nads are crossed hoping it's just the idler pully not the charger!!

I've filled the polo full of scrap and will be taking it to the bridge this morning. How much do you think I'll get for it?
