For horn removal, HBOL helpfully just states 'remove the front bumper'.

Fuck off.

I was gonna say every car horn I've ever seen is tucked up under the front bumper, easily get-atable with that corner jacked up though.

I imagine the bubblecar museum owner will have a fit if she sees us jack a car up though...

Aye, even though they're a car museum... Probably have to farm it out to Old Man then (and he's in Colorado atm so that won't be for a while).

I must have had the horn placement of Old Man's old 190E in my head subconsciously when I was thinking of installation - on that it's just a piezoelectric circle one in front of the radiator and behind the grill, piece of piss to get to.

I thought the Rover had one the same to the right of the bonnet catch, but it didn't. No idea where I got that idea.

On the subject of horns how can I wire in this old 6 volt horn in to a modern 12 volt system please?

An utter, utter bastard parked his S-type Jag outside the house I was working at today. 111,000 miles, MOTed, peeling paintwork on the bonnet and all for £777. Bastard, utter bastard... I don't want, need or can afford another car

...but...

I would make him sell it to you cheaper as punishment for all your torment!

I went to look at a Z3 for swapsies with the Caddilac . Both of us where a bit meh about each others cars he thought the Cadillac was a diesel. The Z3 was a bit rough but the hood was good and it had the 16v engine so not totally dismal. Needs a bit of tidying though and not sure I can be bothered.

On the way back I spotted this Focus. I think it's been there a while.

When I was putting the car back in the garage the old boy who has a garage two down and has a 2.8i capri was putting it in the garage. He had it in at my mates getting new arches in it last week and was asking about my Cortina. He was saying "I think it's nearly time to to move it onto someone younger who can do the work". I think that may have been a hint but he knows their value and it'll be too rich for me. I also had a good look at it when it was getting the arches done and while it's pretty solid there's definitely some premium ford grot at working away in parts.

The car's a bit of a local legend he's had it for at least 20 years.

Have two of them and wire in series. More prosaically depending on how much current it draws you could get a DC-DC converter to drive it.

What he needs is a nice premium car like a cadilac in straight swap for the Capri

I'm very jealous that you can do this.

For me to jump into anything other than my Avensis needs mental preperation and quite a lot of bottle.  I was 90% confident with the Sierra until it just decided not to start over the weekend, stranding me at a Kosovan car wash.  I guess that's the difference between say a 10 mile commute and 160 miles (!)

I'll see how I feel on Friday.  If all is going well, I'll take it.

Wish me luck - both in making the journey, and finding employment after the next breakdown!

Car wash??? In that?

I hope you were just arriving at your new job......

We 'accidentally forgot' and wired in one of those along with some conchshell ones when converting a 50s GMC to 12v.

Bastard loud they were. Until they died.

Edit: Found a pic

What's the worst that can happen?

We got absolutely fucking soaked. Had to get out after 2 minutes because none of the seals actually...you know...seal.

It'd been ravaged by the old tin shed it was living in, and did need a wash.

I'll do it myself next time!

SORN system definitely broken!

March 2016 we bought a MG Metro with V5C. I bought it from a trader and a V5C never arrived, but I applied for one with the green slip that I had been given and got my log book 25th May 2016. Next was a letter dated 4th June 2016 "Last Chance" to SORN the car, which I did and have a screen print out dated 9th June 2016.

Today I taxed the car and a warning came up to say it had not been taxed since 1996 and no SORN was in place so I might be prosecuted!

I'd keep that screen print very handy! I always print off the confirmation pages of these things to a PDF as well for times like these! Saved my arse once with EDF in similar fuck ups

C15 now departed to pestures new. A friend has taken it on to be a retro daily.

Audi 80 now back on frontline duties, although something else is in the pipeline.....

I think there is a major fuck up happening with the DVLA as I had the sorn warning letter about a car I scrapped in 2012. The weird thing is I never registered it to me as I took it as a part ex and filled in the yellow slip. I have just written to the DVLA telling them about their cock up. I won't hold my breath for a reply as I suspect they might have a rather heavy work load with all the mistakes they have made.

Weirdly, I had to tax or sorn my Capri not long ago. It's got no MOT as it's been having a bare metal resto. I went to sorn it online but bizarrely it taxed it for a year instead of sorn! I didn't think you could tax a car without an MOT? It's definitely taxed though.

How old is it?

If it's exempt - I imagine that's precisely what happens.

I've lost the plot, bought genuine Ford wipers and they seem slightly longer than the Valeo wipers previously on there. They're now hitting each other ffs! (Fusion).

Even if it’s let you do that, would it be best to change it to SORN? I thought the rule now is that if a car is taxed then it has to be insured. So, if it’s not insured then it ought to be on SORN?

I'd say the driver's wiper arm is an inch or two too low.

I managed to knacker up my second (and only other) mower just after this photograph was taken :(

I've just fitted a new solid state coil to the fiat. I've been concerned that it's had a weak spark when hot so hopefully this will fix that issue. I know everyone says it's fuel vapourisation but it always has plenty in the carb. And the coil was getting too hot to touch. I'm all for keeping it original, but it has to work too!

But I have also bought a new fuel pump which I'll fit later on- this is mainly because the centre gasket on the original one is still weeping. That is a daytime job though, not a quick pre dinner one.

Other driveÅ• didnot apply the handbrake enough and it rolled into a lamp post, thankfully missing other cars and pedestrians..and  so 20 quid light of ebay, 1 crappy artist brush with million year old tin of  silver smoothrite.

It is tax exempt being a 74. But there should still be the option to sorn the car. My Mercury is also tax exempt but when I had the engine rebuilt I took it off the road as the MOT expired, then when the tax also ran out I just went online and put it on sorn. No such option with the Capri though for some reason!

Even if it’s let you do that, would it be best to change it to SORN? I thought the rule now is that if a car is taxed then it has to be insured. So, if it’s not insured then it ought to be on SORN?

It is still fully insured.

Tbh, it shouldn't matter either way as being tax exempt they won't lose any revenue from it, it's just very odd that I can sorn one tax exempt car but not this one. Maybe something's changed with dvla and tax free cars?
