Did you tell him about your little red rocket?

They weren't that friendly!

I usually go between not enough 2 cars and too many for comfort at 3 so when I sold the Merc 300SE in August it was only a matter of time...  after trawling long and hard for plastic, - Corvette, Scimitar, Lotus and lusting after a Ginetta G32 miles away I brought this home last night. At least it has pop up lights.

The pics flatter it and needs some TLC inside but mechanically it only needs a lock, window switch and engine mounts at the mo, it's come from a good home and has an epic history file with a lot of Hartech bills and brand new Goodyears. It has the standard mot fails on rot offset by a £1160 bill for sills. It cost 4 times as much as my older 924 which had never needed welding. Progress?  Hmmm....   We'll see how we get on.

Much nicer looking and sounding car than the beetle fast backs

This fine day, I jumped into my freshly-washed Honda S-MX and did drive it to Hinckley, where I had been promised much excitement.

Oh, a Figaro! But it's not even an exciting colour.

That's more like it! Mk3 Astra saloon, mit facelift. YUM.

DOMOl8bW4AADTUd.jpg

Then I went and did some work*, during which this was noticed.

DOM0OMjWsAA5gmC.jpg

That'll be at about 5psi then! I could easily see a sodding great screw sitting in the middle of the tread. Sigh.

I was relived of many pounds, but all is now well again.

While waiting for said tyres, I said I wanted a proper brew. The chap pointed me in the direction of Greggs or Costa. SOD THAT!

Chintzy Tea Room level unlocked. A Victoria Sponge was being freshly assembled. It was very tasty.

I apparently own a Honda ?

I then went to Leamington Spa, which was rather more pleasant. There I bought Lexus parts, but not useful ones.

Now I'm in a hotel in Solihull, which has kindly matched the bedroom decor to my clothes.

It has been a long, but enjoyable day.

If I had but known, then I would have offered you an alternative of basic food but a really good Cider venue or Asian beer but great food.

Too late, I'm at home and full of Lidil 22 year Scotch

I've had 944s and 924s on my eBay auto search for a month or so now. Haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I find the prices are getting a bit alarming, a friend thought I should be be going 370 miles to see an 82 non starter 2 years out of test for £2500 opening bid.

Be prepared for door switches, handles etc from a lucky bag and rear end rot

After consulting Google I levered the glovebox open and now it's stuck open instead of closed. I've taped it shut for now. I'll have to try and get a new locking mechanism I think.

Can anybody do an HPi Trade check from Frame No for my Peugeot 103 Moped please?

Panhard65 is very kindly helping me with my Peugeot 103 moped. It seems drinking coffee has given him special powers that I do not have, like being able to notice that there has been a yellow number plate attached to it at some point and the speedo is in mph!

This points to it having been UK registered at some point and it would save me a lot of trouble if I could find the reg number from the frame number. Panhard65 thinks this is possible with a trade HPi account.

Cost will be covered can anybody help me and do a Trade HPi check for me please?

Just been to my factors to get a battery for the granada.

It appears that square poled batteries are nigh on impossible to get hold of so I have had to buy a pair of adaptors.

Took the Zafira to the garage earlier so I can say I've checked the tyres on the fleet...

Front driver's side was down to 24psi... Back up to 38 now!

Don't think it's got a puncture, I haven't checked them since I did them before summer, and Amy drives on terrible roads where you avoid the really bad potholes and aim for the not so bad ones, so I'll keep an eye on it possibly...

Today I have been fitting a totally shite mirror dash cam

WAofODxwRbiz_Z89Wxgh2g.png

I love Amazon Warehouse me - RRP* around £70, price paid by me £17.41, get this, including a proper 32GB SanDisc microSD card. Now I have a nice big rear view mirror (blue in colour) and a hidden dash cam all in one. Double bonus points for a well-translated instruction booklet too. Up and running and fitted in about 10 minutes.

Picture quality not gonna knock yer socks off (1080p) esp at night but it should at least pick out the shape and vague colour of any fucktard going into me.

They have been getting harder to get, luckily when I needed one for the saph earlier this year the place I use had one for me in a couple of hours

Last week I attempted a simple job on the Minor.    The brake light switch lives in a brake union screwed to a front flitch plate down by the bottom of the rad.   Fair do's - not the best idea in the world but that's where it is.    Steel thread in a bronze housing - never was going to go well was it?

I duly chocked it all up with wood around the union and wedged under the three brake pipe unions that go into the T-piece.   Massive grunt on the 7/8s hex on the switch and there is a crunch as one of my wood packings splits and allows the union to twist.   One of the pipes is now pissing fluid over my left foot.....

That was Monday.   Had a look again today, got the unions off and the T piece out (poxy Whitworth bolt holds it in, too...) and got my nice new brake lines all ready to fit.   Except that I have discs, not drums.   The pre-made pipes with nice new unions are absolutely no fucking use to connect to the caliper hoses.   Didn't even think about that!    I could re-use the lines that connect to the flexis but I am not going to trust anything that may have got bent - not with single circuit braking, anyway.

Good job I bought that Fester!   Off to my mate's tonight - he loves bending up brake pipes and sodding about with flaring tools.   Got the bleed job to look forward to as well......

Any air-cooled VW lickers on here?    Do they persist with this ridiculous in-line switch or is there a mechanical trigger - I am just thinking that they will have the same floor-hinged pedal arrangement as the Morris.

How about trying something prototypical to its age?

As fitted to many commercials from the 1940s onwards. In fact, I have a bottle of mercury safely tucked away that was gathred from these things taken from various scrap trolleybuses and motor uses over the ages.

My Locost came with one of these, I sacked it off and rigged up a switch on the pedal. Not pretty but it works.

Mind you it turned out the reason my brake lights didn't work wasn't the switch, it was that the front circuit it was plumbed into had a major fluid leak. Unbeknown to me I drove it home with only rear brakes...

Aye, I did short the circuit before putting my head into the lion's mouth....Its fine!

I feel your pain. Did this very job on my Minor a few months ago. Was hoping to be able to simply unscrew and replace the switch without disturbing any pipes. Fat chance! Ended up removing the union and switch as one, dealt with it in the vice then reconnected the lines. Having replaced the line that I twisted by trying to do the job the quick way...

Not sure about the early, Hitler-spec models, but 1960s-on Beetles also have a pressure switch. Said switch is rather substantial, though, and bolts to the end of the (equally substantial) ATE master cylinder.

It doesn't have an EGR valve does it?

It does, it's the Ford/psa 1.6 diesel engine, I couldn't get the fucking thing to start initially but once over that hurdle it hasn't been as bad.

The cut out requires a bit of cranking to get it to restart, so I suspect a fuel issue.

Those symptoms do sound like an EGR gumming up and sticking.

My smax has the 2.0tdci engine. It would be often a pita to start, and would happen at the most inopportune moments. I don't know if the 1.6 has it, but the 2.0 has a flap in the air intake that would stick shut therefore stopping it starting.

The cranking would basically eventually cause enough shaking that the valve would unstick.

I keep seeing a K11 Micra convertible around, branded as a March.

Would it be factory? It looks well done other than the utterly hideous rear lights which I'd imagine are aftermarket.

No photo as I'm always laden with Lidl's finest* shopping.

March seems to have been a name used on Micras in different markets.  I often saw both types in the space of a few yards in Cyprus.

Sounds like a JDM grey import. Should the regular K11 choptop not be obscure enough, there's always this version:
