Is it possible to move house using a Volvo 740 estate?

Just curious!

The biggest single pieces of furniture I have is a normal double mattress and divan bases (but they split into 2). Oh, and a 2 seater sofa.

I moved house with a Mk2 Polo, so I'd say it's entirely possible.

I moved in to my current house using a Nissan Prairie - mk1 of course ;)

I had a two seater settee in the council estate, a double mattress should too if you fight with it enough. My personal best was a washing machine, an under worktop fridge, a fold up table and chairs and three flatpack boxes containing a coffee table, a nest of tables and a TV unit all in one trip.

I thought all the top removal firms used Volvo estates?

Get a roofrack and the sky, or overhead lines, are your limit. I've moved a washing machine on a Sprite bootrack, so I reckon a 740 could move a whole house if you have a long ratchet strap.

Ive moved house with a Volvo 360.

Had to cheat and use a Suzuki Supercarry/Bedford Rascal/Diahatsu Hijet Thing to move 2 King size mattres's's's.

Everything else went in the hatchback.

You could move literally anything in a 740 Wagon.

740 estate + roofrack + trailer = complete removal kit :D You can get as much stuff in/on it as the suspension will stand, basically, so load with confidence.

I moved house twice using just a renault laguna estate with roof rack. That included a large 3 seater sofa on the roof, with the 2 seater inside the car. Its possible, but it just takes time, so many trips to do, which isn't bad if its a local move. Last time i moved i hired a long wheel base van, collected Friday afternoon, dropped back Monday am, £100 all in. Was alot quicker and easier and in my eyes money well spent.

You can move house with anything really, I did it with my old BX with the desk that I'm presently writing on and a bicycle on the roof, with space for a helper (father) in the front seat too. Even once helped a friend move in her C1 with a chair 69ing the front passenger seat.

I bought a new large side-by-side fridge freezer a couple of years ago (1.77m high x 0.9m wide and 0.67m +handle deep), I happen to own a Volvo 740 at the time and it fitted in with the tailgate shut.

Excellent comments chaps, thanks. :D

Probably be less hassle doing what I did last time and hiring out a Tranny for the weekend (oo-errr Missus) With a high roof this time so I don't risk cracking my head on the roof.

Still....gotta find another place to move to first.

I moved house using a Polo breadvan, admittedly I didnt have as much shit back then as I do now.

I once moved using a Rover 800 fastback and a length of rope, so a massive Ovlov should be no trouble.

This man has superb organising skillzz

Of course you can! I moved and used a Mk2 Cavalier saloon as a furniture van.

When we moved house last, we used a Mini. And a 2CV. And a Citroen CX estate. And a BX. Several times. And an LDV Maxus. And an Iveco 7.5 ton luton. We really do have far too much shit...

all hail the mighty volvo, i have faith, i moved into my place in 2008 using grandads 53 plate xsara picarso (1.6 pez variety for extra shite points still has it today only done 30,000 miles)

Last time I moved myself, it was with a Mk2 Golf GTi. That included my kingsize bed and mattress, a double wardrobe, chest of drawers and towing escRot (though, obviously, not all at the same time)

I have used the LOLvo to help a couple of mates move, I actually fit a whole house worth of stuff in one trip (less the suite, bed and whitegoods) so it is eminently doable.

When Ms C moved her stuff accross into my flat from hers she got a lift with one of my other flatmates in a Suzuki Swift and I walked carrying a rat cage.

When we moved here it took 8 trips with a LDV luton, 3 with a HiJet pickup, 2 with a Corrola and about 26 with a Peugeot 205 including one trip carrying one of these in the back

Typically the bloody campervan was broken and came over empty via a friends place.

Last time we moved, man with a van was doing the furniture. However he took one look at my Workshop.- Female Edit - [shed full of Junk] and ran for the hills.

I moved the lot using my Mitsubishi Colt, It's amazing what you can force into a 3dr hatchback if you don't mind rust on the upolstery.

I moved house using The Volvo in 2005. It took me five trips to move everything. In hindsight, I should have hired a van.

Moved a mate less fridge a few years back using a 740 saloon. Oddly enough, all that weight had no affect whatsoever it it's performance.

Didn't stop as well though...

Your saloon, rml245, for all it is less powerful than mine and Andy's, is relentless. It just doesn't stop accelerating.

I put all sorts of junk in an old saab 900 hatch, mattress, fridge freezer. no probelm! The hatch rake made it a bit less useful than a proper estate but damn good!

I did it 2 years ago with a 740, just meant lots of trips, but seeing as the move was only a mile away it didn't matter. The usual lack of headlining meant everytime I scraped the roof with a bed, sofa or whatever I'd get showered with manky old swedish backing foam :) Previous to that I used a Rover Metro (Hydragas FTW!) but used a van for the big stuff.

From Liverpool to Glasgow and back in a 205 GTi 1.6 and a Nova Saloon.
