OMG SNO KAOS - pics or stories?

We've had little snow of note in thame but it's been a permafrost all week.

Makes me bloody glad I'm no longer one of the first cars out on the country roads linking us to the m40 with the smaller volume of traffic not warming the roads up as it was. When we walked to school on Monday I've never seen the estate roads so icy!

Xsara took 2 goes to start yesterday too, poor thing

The hills above the town I live in. I drove up there on Monday, got my nearside wheel in the gutter; very nearly didn't get out again.

That's crazy. Meanwhile, just west of the Pennines, all I've got is a wee dusting. Was upset I couldn't challenge the Jimny and it's All Terrains and weirdly enjoy a different type chaos in work other than Covid.

Snow? Pah. Fired up first turn of the key, and clomped through the snow perfectly happily on not even proper winter tyres. They're just Avons that are rated A for wet grip.

The only 'drama' was reversing it back into its space. I left a pile of snow that I brushed off it, so it took two attempts to bump over it.

Now there's a place which doesn't often get a mention on Autoshite.  How on earth did you end up there?  No need to worry about early closing at the local village shop as there isn't one.  Ideal if you like the quiet life and really want to self-isolate though, loads of lovely old rural houses and buildings.

Dallas petrol station's seen better days.  A bit ironic really.

It used to be an FSO dealer as well. I had a look around it ages ago and found FSO or Polski Fiat signs. I used to live not too far from Dallas and I find it quite bleak there.

I did a good deed this morning, nipped round to the brother/sister in laws to pump their tyre up so they could drive and get it fixed (no spare). There was a big patch of ice next to their car so I didn't drive on it in case I slid. The SIL warned me about it too as she'd fallen over on it already. Pumped the tyre up and went back to the car, next thing I know I'm on the floor. Yep, straight over on the ice, so I have some nice bruises to show for my good deed. Bloody weather, roll on spring

The Toledo making short work of the snow mere moments after a successful MOT..I had just popped to check on the Golf

With 175/70/13 tyres, no ABS and no traction control it's ace in the snow. Literally just pop it in 2nd, 1100rpm and gentle with the clutch.. away she goes .

This turned up at the MOT centre just as I was leaving.IMG_20210212_130545236.thumb.jpg.fac5c5bc469ba5e545f7a2ff454bb5ef.jpg

Bet it drifts well..

Polo has done well this week in the Suffolk snow. Blocking up the upper and lower radiator grill is necessary because SDI won't warm up otherwise! Winter tyres cheap eBay purchase a few years ago.

It does seem to collect alot of snow under the wheel arches. So much so I had to stop and remove some of it as it was effecting the steering!

I can confirm Bentleys are rubbish in the snowIMG_20210210_094813.thumb.jpg.4c9046d0c413e49e97a5f2c431a101d8.jpg

Right, this is how to do it, the following are all  'aerosani' (aэросани), a type of propeller-driven snowmobile, running on skis, used for communications, mail deliveries, medical aid, emergency recovery and border patrolling in the northern areas of the USSR.

This one is future proofed, and can be used after the effects of climate change are felt -

Was pretty cold last couple of nights, took the Audi for a run to a call out at work, this was taken at 02:30 as I parked up at home...

It was telling me a bulb was out, but I can't see any missing...

We had a bimble up the lane today to try out the snowbike...

Loads of roads closed round here, glad it's not my weekend at work.  Not snowing much but the winds whipping up drifts everywhere.  The new Radar Renegade tyres have been amazing though, chuffed with them and would recommend.

A man has been charged with dangerous driving after being stopped in Dundee with snow covering almost his entire front and rear windscreens.
Police said it was 'about the most extreme example of lack of preparation' that they had ever seen (martc said  it was 'the most extreme example of understatement' he had ever seen).

Also, whilst the front screen is absolutely inexcusable, what's the issue with the rear one?  There's no requirement to be able to see out of it, only the front screen and the two front side windows, assuming the vehicle has a near-side door mirror.

Yes, it's lazy not to clear it, but clearing the back window isn't a requirement.  Not to be able to see out of anyway (might be a hazard with the risk of snow falling off perhaps)

I like watching the back wiper take the snow off... I leave it until I'm sat in the car and the hrw has softened it up.

Generally always clear the rest though, after being being an avalanche of show coming off someone's roof in l2 of the m40 many times its not nice for the car behind.

Hasn't snowed enough for that to need to be done here for years though, or if it has I've not gone out anyway!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it law/advisable to clear all the snow off your car before you set off? I have seen too many blocks of snow covered ice fall off and hit the car behind, or worse still all the stuff on the roof slides forwards when you brake and covers the screen, imagine that if you’re doing 30 and then boom no view through the front. I always clear it off mine, good chance it’s not going to piss others off around me then.
