I've been off this week so spent a bit of time doing some jobs to the fleet. Mostly it's been fighting the Mégane to replace the front struts. It was a royal pain. The RS model has unique alloy hubs that clamp onto steel shock absorbers with a steel bolt. Bimetallic corrosion has not been my friend. I managed to remove one strut without removing the hub by compressing the spring insitu but standard practice is to remove the whole hub and strut for this job. Which I had to do on the other side because the bolts were seized in place. It took me 7 hours to do two struts. However, my track car now has cup pack suspension! Totally worth it...


I also did some welding on my dad's MG this week. It's been sat waiting on this since my girlfriend binned it in the September... However it's not in a position it can be filled and painted.

I've also upgraded the speaker on my Beetle! I now have the luxury of a speaker in each door instead of just one in the passenger door!


I celebrated the new found volume by going to Tesco today to buy milk. It was hell on earth unsurprisingly given it's the last Saturday before Christmas.

Over the winter break I'm intending to give the MGF another go. I really want to get it sorted. Then if I can fit it in around the weather I'm going to start welding my brown Mini.

Myself, @juular and @MrsJuular have accepted a mission, whether we like it or not. This may take a considerable amount of time...

You’ve seen those desperate adverts, right? Some humdrum crud advertised as “Previously owned by Micky Frenulum who once played in goal for Stoke in the 1970s”, or something. And you think; “so fucking what? It’s a shit old car and no-one cares”. 
Anyway. This wasn’t even for sale. It was part of a deceased estate or something and was somehow dumped outside a mate of a mates industrial unit in the Midlands. No-one wanted it. It’s a Rover 620i with plaggy wood, velour seats, an expired MOT and issues. 
And so, with a few mates we clubbed together and bought it because… the previous owner was an F1 driver. No, really. He scored but one point, years ago, and seemingly celebrated by buying this 620i and leaving loads of fag ash, cat hair and dandruff in it.

 
WHO IS IT THEN?! I hear you type. Well I’m not telling (yet). No-one will believe me anyway but there’s paperwork and everything. And why, when I have 3 cars already, would I want a rotten 620i anyway?

Mum has gone now, don’t know what else to say. I’ve gone from two parents to one parent, to no parents in 14 months. My boys are devastated too.

Well, that did not go to plan.  On the day I was due to go home, my bosses called me and asked me to go direct to another inspection and construction vessel to investigate the problem I had found. The weather has been poor so progress has been slow, and yesterday we gave up for this year as people had a strange desire to be home for Christmas, so late last night I got home, my 7-10 day trip lasting for 30 days!
My track to the house suffered damage in the last storms, so my postie has been delivering my post to a neighbour being the good guy he is, and of course they are out today so that is making my secret santa plans difficult!  Safe to say somebody will be getting a late Christmas gift! But they will get it.
So today I went buy to have a look at the latest project. Quite a rare car and a non runner. Lets see if anybody can work it out.

Thank you all for your comments and support for my decision to buy my very own Pug 205 gti again. Always regretted selling my last one so seemed too good an opportunity to miss when the exact spec and colour gti I wanted was sitting at the garage looking for a new owner :). It does how ever need some work to get it how I want it and it isn't going to be a 5 minute job. I will try and update this thread as we go through the ever increasing list of jobs to tackle on it. Job number 1 was to get it under cover and start bailing it out. It turns out that even though it only been stood outside for 1 week there has been enough rain to leak into the boot somewhere and run all the way through to the passenger footwell :(. Carpets are now up and the sound proofing underneath is out and drying in the house. There is a fan heater and de humidifier combo in the car, so now just have to wait. We have however found one definite leak path. Behind the trim in the boot, Mat found a broken off trim clip that someone had tried to bodge closed with some black sealant. I'm glad he volunteered to go in the boot while I sprayed the hose 🤣

One of those jobs, albeit minor, was to tidy up the wiring.

I don't know who did this, or why (but I will look for you, I *will* find you, and I will kill you )
Although in reality I'll just use a particular set of skills to do a neater job. First soldered the wires together,  then insulated them with glue-lined heat shink.

Then another piece of heat shrink over the whole lot, and job done.

Does he think you're bringing birds? 
He's gonna be well fucking disappointed.

Brother has murmured having it in his yard area . But it would be pretty basic , prob just a couple of portaloos 
Sure we could arrange a trip round cornwall and maybe go down a mine etc . 
 
But…… we love a road trip so happier to go further afield
