  3. The whole point of security whether car or house, is just to make yours harder to steal (from), so they go for an easier option. Professionals can steal anything and get by most domestic security pretty easily, but being quick gives them the best chance of getting away with it, so anything that might delay them is good security. Effectively you are putting up a sign saying “go next door, their stuff is easier to steal”.
  4. Yesterday
  5. Yup, i have the exact same, It's been garbage for a long time. There's something very wrong with their distance filters in particular. Works fine for 10 miles for me from Dundee, I'll only see cars in that vicinity, but if i up that to 20 miles, i start getting shown hundreds of cars in Yorkshire and the Midlands, also several miles outside whatever price i set. But the price thing alone isn't that a new thing, think it's been like that for ages, always assumed they are 'premium' ads and are getting paid a little more from those vendors to be pushed out to more people regardless of search criteria.
  6. Chodspeed! There's many on here behind you on this mission.
  7. You'll be fine. Sounds like you've got everything planned. A route, a couple of hotels and a flying visit to Mother_Bollouxe in quelque part en France. IIt's probably an age thing, certainly has been with me as I'm more cautious than I used to be. The only issue I ran into was getting in Dunkirk and they'd shut off the main route into the boat terminal, the diversion wasn't very well sign posted but I managed to get to the terminal in plenty of time. Similarly in the last couple of years of driving into Brussels my usual everyday cars (Peugeot and Jaguar) have either broken down or more recently with the Jag got smashed up. So I've had to make some last minute hurried changes. Honestly, things just seems so much more simpler over the water. I've now registered 3 cars for use in Brussels, it takes literally 5 mins to do (so long as your car is post 2001 petrol and you have a V5 handy) You'll probably have more issue coming back into the UK.
  8. I have a similar issue. But it isn't just middle-aged tossers trying to capture a life that never was, but also youngsters in their Fiestas with loud pop-pop exhausts and some tosser trying to kill a 3-series BMW ragging it around everywhere with a massive hole in the exhaust, you can hear the hollow insides of the exhaust trying to get out. This is a fucking market town, the road sways and gets carved up so why the fuck these arses come here is beyond me (properly because they're too scared/tight fisted to go into bigger cities)
  9. Closed, sliding, but not fixed as if you try and sync it/open to vent position it jams again. Common fault, a rebuild kit is available and I'll do it after I've sorted the transmission
  10. At first I thought that was some kind of adult version of when we were kids and put rattly things in our bicycle wheel spokes.. 😛
  11. I've done that. Also smelly things. When I went to buy my current wheels the seller had what was probably quite an expensive airfreshener contraption in the cup holder. As soon as I got in the car I pulled it out and handed it to him...
  12. Always liked the heavy duty rubber mats you got in the old Volvo 240. Silly money now though. Volvo mats
  13. I've come to the realisation that here in the UK, we always seem to have wanky stock when it comes to cars and even car parts. I first learnt this years ago when I saw the spec of the Mk1 Rover Sterling in the US compared to the UK. The yanks got integrated car phone and ruched leather on the door cards, we got flat fabric, and the car phone was an big expensive extra ffs. In terms of parts, I'd like to buy some rubber mats for a car, but all I can find are these wanky cheap checker crap mats that absolutely everyone is offering now. The mats come in all different prices but are basically all the bloody same, flat wanky plasticky"rubber" with some cheap fabric edges available in different colours. Some time last year I bought the Fatha_Sterling some rubber mats for his Mitsubishi ASX from a manufacturer in Europe, they were amazing looking with a very OEM look to them, heavy duty, well made and not too expensive, so much so, old man took them out of the Mistubishi and put them in his Passat! They looked like this, big, heavy, purposeful proper moulded rubber mats. Yet here in the UK, we get offered this shit thay doesn't even fit right 😡 I had these in my BMW and they really were wank, flat, barely lasts a year etc... Why do we put up with this shit?
  14. Same here and because she won’t ever overtake anything even tractors at 20mph, she justifies it by getting better mpg than I do. However, she’s just gone automatic.
  15. This fella has deep pockets for Mini-Dinky. Or should that be poches profondes. It's a pretty extensive review, including the photos of the prototypes that appeared on eBay in 2015 Dinki Mini is unrelated, but looks like fun all the same
  16. Cheers, I fired off a question. Looks like a Mk1 827 Vitesse. I've asked him for more info.
  17. You're telling me! I'm to be sectioned next Tuesday. This is what there is here from the Mini-Dinky range: Individual photos of each model may be possible, but not right now. Maybe if sunny tomorrow afternoon, eh. The ones I was after but never achieved were the Mustang and the Cadillac.
  18. Do you know what it is, now its getting close I am seriously starting to shit myself about this mission. I have sat for months if not years looking at the gems for sale on Wallapop & Leboncoin, spending hours at my desk daydreaming about flying out and meandering home in some interesting new Euro heap. FINALLY I have decided to actually do it!!!!! Its really happening!!! And yet now its happening I am literally filling my kegs in terror. Nothings gone wrong so far, costs are more or less under control, theres nothing about the car that's setting my spidey senses off (every time I look at it I think it looks ace) the train strike situation is manageable, no language worries (my Spanish isn't great but the seller is French so I should be able to rattle away to him OK), think I'm more or less legal, I honestly think I've done or am doing everything correctly, so why am I shitting myself? I should be shitting myself with excitement not terror. I guess thats just 'getting older' and feeling more risk averse. Maybe. Perhaps when I get behind the wheel of the Simca and can see for myself that the temp gauge is stable and the clutch doesnt slip I'll relax into it, like I used to do when I was doing an A-frame mission and I finally got hooked up and rolling and found it was all absolutely fine (again). I'll be well annoyed if I've put myself to all this effort and I cant even relax enough to enjoy it. We'll see!!! No backing out now!!!!
  19. Unfortunately no I'm afraid - been tinkering on elements of the car (particularly trying to get the heater/blower working) but I was hoping to start the engine this week (it turns over, see above) but my man, a v good mechanic, couldn't come over, as promised, on either the Monday or Weds night (work or family related - I know he's got a hell of a lot on at the moment, as I think we all do really). Trouble is - in order to trouble shoot it needs two people really to check (one to turn the key, the other to hold the spark plug against the block etc etc). BUT I'm confident he's going to come over on Monday (away this weekend at a 50th, as I am next weekend at another 50th). As soon as I have news I'll post it - don't really want to do any major jobs until I categorically know the engine is sorted (we've had it running before but not since I had pnm engineering sort the waterpump). Once I know the engine works it'll be 'fire the parts cannon' and get on. Then, once I've go the mot I can concentrate on sorting the interior - it aint bad, as such, but it aint great either.............and I want great.
  20. FFS, the cheapest I can find an inlet pipe for is 42 fugging quid. For a short bent piece of black plastic. Bloody German motors.
  21. ‘Get this train moving RIGHT NOW or I am revving this Simca’
  22. OK I've just booked a refundable chunnel crossing. £190!!!!! It had better be a slick operation or I'll pull the choke out and sit idling in the train till everyone passes out as a protest.
  23. I just picked this Parkside welder up from Lidl mainly as everyone raves about middle isle welders and plasma cutters and I alway miss out. I've not opened it yet as I may take it back but I thought Id ask here if anyone has any experience with these? The reviews seem good from what I see. In the future I'd like to be welding my Cars so I know gas would be better for that. Are there any transferable skills from fluxcore to gas mig? I notice this has just one knob for wire speed. If there are some transferable skills it might be worth me keeping it so I can practice in our current small garden without worrying about storing gas. P.s. I do have an inner wing that needs sorting soon... maybe not by me 🫣
  24. Oh dear, I'm sure Mr Bollox doesn't want Brexit crap cluttering up his thread. It's happened, accept it.
