Action so far:

60mph flat out.

Quarter glass fell out, I caught it and had to pull into a petrol station forecourt with one free hand and no brakes.

That also marked the first occasion the brakes went bye-bye. They did pump up but it's a long pedal travel to pump rapidly.

Then the exhaust snapped in half.

While checking that wasn't going to leave the chat entirety I pulled a couple of plugs which seemed healthy. Tweaked the ignition timing a touch (though I can't find a mark on the crank pulley and deleted the vac advance which is T-junctioned into an aftermarket gauge on the dash.

This was deep in the red under any throttle. It seems to be running a bit better now, at one point I hit 70mph!

So perhaps a vac issue for the ignition,  or the exhaust is blocked further along and was causing too much back pressure?

Currently acquiring an exhaust bandage outside Oxford...

You haven't got a slack front wheel bearing allowing the brake disc to move about and push the pads/caliper pistons back so you have to pump them out again every now and again ?

I love this car - saw it for sale and was gutted I didn’t have the cash for it! 

Excellent collection, the sort most of us dream of but few are actually brave enough to do! 

Where is the dizzy vac advance fed from, and is it original? Have had great fun* in the past with getting good steady vacuum with twin carb conversions.

Never mind that, where is he? How is he? Is he ploughing along, right foot buried in the carpet, left foot frantically pumping the brake pedal? We haven’t heard for hours.

First fill up.

One of these cars averaged 8mpg. Not the fast one.

M6 was shut so go diverted through the centre of Warrington, stopped to top up oil.

Now at Charmock Richard Services.

I did it with an FSO Polonez in 1994 - the one at the back of my avatar pic!  C246 MFV was only eight years old too.

@captain_70s You're likely to meet a lot of northbound closure on the M6.  Seems it's been a busy day of incidents going at least as far as Tebay.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I think the woman driving the Aston looking on is thinking you are taking a picture of her car specifically 😂

If the Volvo is only doing 8mpg, does it have a leaking fuel system?
