I think the woman driving the Aston looking on is thinking you are taking a picture of her car specifically 😂

If the Volvo is only doing 8mpg, does it have a leaking fuel system?

8mpg! Impressive stats.  20mpg must be about right for a big, old automatic, so 8mpg could (barely feasibly) be the result of slow speed traffic or running flat out, and poor tuning? M6 looking green all the way up - hopefully good progress is being made

Is this really the time and place to discuss kinks? I know that Volvo is perversely sexy and danger of this level is often an aphrodisiac, but damn...

Southwaite services achieved.

Charge light occasionally visits, bad wire on the alternator needing a wiggle.

Oil light coming on at idle. Nothing to see here, move along. We've consumed 2l of 15w40 so far.

No idea where the fuel is going. It doesn't leave a puddle, no signs of leakage in the engine bay, plugs aren't fouled.

It should be doing better, period tests got 18-25mpg. But their didn't have 130k on the clock a dodgy SU conversion, a boot full of shit and a massive roof rack. 😂

The good news is that we managed 9.5mpg on the second fill. I reckon it'd have been double figures without getting routed right through Warrington...

It's not that the brakes are just on and the fluid is boiling, is it?

Don't think so. I did suspect that to start with but haven't had any brake woes since before Oxford.

Of course I could just have "clearanced" the brake pads to a slightly less tight fit with hard use...

It does seem very low mpg, is the box changing up OK?

There was a moment where I thought "this can't be top gear" at 55mph and slipped the gear selector into 2nd to check.

I actually was in top gear and the instantaneous increase to 6,500rpm nearly made me shit myself.

Despite this, PC still 0.

One of these cars averaged 8mpg. Not the fast one.

its not on a mechanical fuel pump is it? If it is I wonder if the Diaphragm has split and its leaking petrol into the engine oil thinning it out and also ruining your fuel economy?

That’s probably the longest trip it’s done in a long time I’d bet! It’ll probably do it some good too.

Old Volvo though, so no surprise it made it really👍

Is there such a thing as a calendar collection? Like a calendar shot but... just... a collection that needs an annual celebration?

Cheers all! I'd by lying if I didn't consider there being an entertaining collection thread when weighing up the drive/ship choice!

Was certainly an adventure. A mere 14hrs travel, I think US truckers have shifts that long...

Further content shall continue in my regular project thread.

Having introduced Dads old Volvo to this forum its really nice to see how interested folk are in it and its progress. Seems to be improving owner by owner and a good run will help it for sure.

Bravo @captain_70s!
