Shitters MPG Thread

So what are you getting out of your shitter?

This weeks fill up has seen 56MPGees, last week I got 58.
I generally fill up weekly on a Thursday when the car gets to half a tank on the gauge. Annoyingly Tesco Express on Whitegate Drive was closed whilst a man with a long pole cleaned the forecourt canopy. I was forced to drive to Tesco Big Shop where they charge a whole extra 1p per litre more for filling up a mere mile down the road. Bastards.

The last time  I worked it out, about 55 mpg from the TDi Passat. Gets worse in winter and better in summer, I do have every single fuel receipt from the last 8 years, so if I was really bored I could do an overall average...

GT86 is doing about 34mpg

ZS180 was doing about 24mpg but currently off the road.

Average 47 in my non shite Seat with best of 54

Nothing particularly remarkable but pretty good for a large (part time) 4WD 190bhp auto that isn’t driven gently.

The ST170 - presumably not much. It's going to Coventry tomorrow so I'll do some basic maths and see what I can eke out then.

Vito 2.1CDI - long term average 32

Renault Zoe - around 3.8mi/kWh which works out to equivalent of 270mpg at 8.5p/kWh and £1.40/l for pez

1.4 petrol Nissan Note, average is 46mpg over almost nine years and 103k miles, but in the last few years it's been higher, 49mpg, presumably due to less commuting/heavy traffic use as I'm mainly working at home now.

52.1 (measured) from a 2.2 D4D Avensis.

Trip computer says 56.8 🤷

I think that's pretty good for what is quite a big engine.

My Astra managed a frankly suspicious 49 mpg in the heatwave last month. This seems unbelievably good for any eighties petrol car but is borne out by experience it seems to run on fresh air.

I don’t really press on, but I’m not hypermiling it or anything either.

My qashqai is telling me 54.8 in the 6 months or so since I last had the battery off. I drive a mixture of really economically (traffic in front, won't be going any faster than 45mph so I'll relax and be in 5th at 45 like the car enjoys) or like a prick (no cars infront of me/motorway) so I'm happy enough with that for a massive boat

I have a (sad) spreadsheet for most of our stuff over the past 10 years or so - the current fleet has:

Best - R55 Bini with 1.6 HDi - 58mpg over 20,000 miles
Most pleased - CLK 220 - 45 mpg over 8,500 miles
Still assessing - SLK 320 - 24mpg over 500 miles - needs more running now binding brakes/steering all squared off.

640d sitting on 41.4mph average. Amazing considering the size and power of the thing.

500… no idea. It is so frugal it only gets petrol once a year. Mind you I never drive it if it’s wet outside so mileage is low.

Elise, feels like 35mpg ish but never really calculated. Light cars for the win.

E46 320D does around 45mpg

1989 Honda Vision I calculated does around 69mpg with a normal fill up of super costing around £3.

Yep! Pre dpf too 👌

Interestingly* at Datsun Nissan where I work, they recently recreated a LeJoG run which original QQ did. The 1.5dCi was able to do it on a single tank (700ish miles?).

The new QQ e-Power (series hybrid) repeated the exercise and was even more fuel efficient. Normal hypermiling aids apply - max out tyre pressure, 55mph on motorways etc. Plus some careful charging of battery downhill then utilising on the uphill.

But otherwise a standard car, no tweaks.

41.3 from my non shite Cupra Leon PHEV

Impressive, yes?

Depends how I drove them but roughly:

Cayman 2.9L - 30-32mpg normally but regularly gets 37mpg+ on a long motorway run.

'89 Mini Turbo - 25-30mpg. Heavily dependent on boost settings. If I run it at a full 24psi then it gets 20mpg but then I am squeezing 200hp out of a 1275cc A-series 😅

'83 Mini - 45-50mpg pootling around. 55mpg+ on the motorway at 60mph which is a fairly nice cruising speed Vs. noise. I built it to be a nice cruiser so 60hp from a 998 engine with a long diff for good motorway speeds

Panda - 45-50mpg. Its hard to drive it quickly so this is pretty much about what it manages everywhere

Subaru Outback 3.0......   Now sitting at 29.7 mpg after the last 2500 miles. The 30mpg in the pic was after the only motorway run in that 2500. All country roads. Very little stop start town stuff.

Rcz sitting at 42.7 after 1500 miles.

Trip computer stats. Not measured.

Lexus GS450h - About 38-42mpg

Peugeot 207 1.6 HDi - 62mpg lifetime, can do around 70 if tickled on the motorway, one of the best I've had.

MG 5 - About 3.8-4.2 electric MPGs

Boxster 2.7 - Not sure yet, doesn't seem too fierce.

I saw that on Facebook the other week!

I've not done a very long run in mine yet, I had 650/700 miles from my xsara going to York and back once and probably could have done more but... Speed 😂

I saw 58mpg briefly on the trip up the m40 I did 2 days after buying it with the original 150k cambelt stuff still fitted. Drove very VERY gently but again, was quite boring!

£50 just over half fills the tank, I bet brimmed and on a run it'd get a good distance covered. Some people on the fb group claim 60+ mpg but I either don't believe them or don't want to be stuck behind them on a windy a road 😂

Hybrids will always help. I drove dad's old ioniq to motherwell and back for a concert once and after many miles of training had it in ev mode at 75/80mph when going downhill/dead flat. It used to claim a 62ish mpg average but I never believed that and it had a fucking tiny tank iirc and when not driving like a danger to other road users it's a busy 1.5 petrol. Driving home after concerts up the m40 to Oxford at 01.00, to sustain the cough85cough I'd set it to up the big hill past High Wycombe it would drop 2 or 3 gears to sustain itself. It once put itself into sport mode doing it... Not done that in the enyaq yet as dad still has to get home afterwards so it's driven in max battery mindset 😢

That is really impressive

The wifes Alhambra is essentially the same platform and engine but only returns about 35 to 39MPG  - Ive had it up to the early 40's on a long run.
I wonder if its because its a heavy old thing with the aerodynamics of a Yorkshire Outdoor Lavatory?
