Does your chod have a theme tune?

We have threads on driving songs and songs that mention cars in the title or lyrics but is there a piece of music which you feel represents or sums up your vehicle?

For my C15 it has to be Minor Swing - it's old and French and full of gallic charm just like the van. Django's guitar chugs along like the engine while Grappelli's violin floats over the top in the aural equivalent of bouncing down a country lane.

Maybe it's just the way my brain works or does anyone else have a theme tune for their chod?

My Caddy van has Khachaturian's Adagio from Spartacus as its theme tune, this also gave birth to its name of One Din, as it's not the quietest of engines.

The reasoning to this, when I bought the van the radio reception was awful, turns out a replacement windscreen had been fitted and the built in aerial had not been plugged in, it does require the headlining to be dropped, so screen fitters tend not to bother. The previous owner had left a classical music CD in the stereo, so that was my soundtrack for the 2 hour drive home from York.

The One Din name is due to the tune being the title music for the Onedin Line series. To be fair it is a banging tune.

For the 06-reg Mark Two Focus, it has to be 'Patience' (2006) by Take That.

Both represented the second go at a very popular entity, boy band and car, but everyone preferred the first version.  Generation two of each lacked something, in the Ford's case true 'New Edge' styling and for the pop group Robbie Williams.  Both weighed less in the nineties, too.

That said, the second incarnations were considered to be of reasonable quality and had mass appeal.  As such, people flocked to Ford dealers to buy Focuses and record shops to pick up Gary and the boys' offering.  That led to both topping the charts and, subsequently, never quite going away.

A turn down any British High Street will, to this day, turn up either a Mark Two Ford Focus or a radio in a shop tuned to Heart FM, playing 'Patience' by Take That.

This is a bit tenous, but….

The (recently moved on) w140 would have been “ode to joy” - Its Germanic, brutal excellence is in a sense, a source of joy.  its not featured in Die Hard as its a few years too young (a w124 is) but i cant help but feel the 7 members of Asian Dawn would have had one as a company car….

And it feels like being in a vault sitting in it, which invoked beethoven in the eyes of the movie director….

The piece was dedicated to king frederick william III of prussia, who would have been a w140 driver, had that been possible, I feel.

This seems pretty fitting for the Vectra, to be honest.

Not just because it's a Twisted shit of a car sometimes, but it's sort of period correct too.

Madness: "I go driving in my car, it's not quite a Jaguar, ....."  - fits most of my cars to a 'T'  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rV1_7R_3cXA

Wife says that her Bini (aka 'Lemmy') deffo gets Ace of Spades by Motorhead : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mbvWn1EY6g

Sprog's Bini would (probably) get something like Brutal by Olivio Rodrigo - simply because it has the line "I can't even parallel park" ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGUy2UmRxJ0

Quite literally, Yes LOL

The song below is a good match for any car featuring the four rings of success*, including my current daily.

A casual observer may well be impressed by the whole Teutonic avantgarde, Vorsprung durch Technik, image.

But look a bit closer, and it becomes obvious that the blokes who put the thing together were quite blatantly taking the piss.

I'm not sure why, but I have always closely linked any 90s/00s Rover with any music from modern talking. 'Cheri Cheri lady' just feels so, fitting! Maybe it's just me!

I like the theme from Titanic when cruising at speed in the Senator. Don’t know what it’s called but it’s by James Horner, I think and is when the ship is at speed, before all the shit happens.

Car adverts and their music are designed to stick in your head. Some that always make me think of "that song" when I see one. Here's three to enjoy from my childhood. If I'm ever lucky enough to find a reasonably priced unrotten mk3 cav I'll have completed the trilogy

Cover your eyes @Cavcraft

8-track.  They weren't, from very dim memory, that much bigger than the later 'compact' cassette.

These days, 'eight tracks or fewer' is the answer private railway bosses give to the question 'what are you not competent to manage?'.

Not much different in size than one of those 6 CD  autochanger cartridges that you get in some cars/ home Hi Fi units.
When I was a kid all the older teenage guys that we thought were 'dead galas' i.e. super cool had three mandatory things:
1) Crappy old Capri
2) 8 track
3) A mullet

Was 8 track just in car? Can’t ever remember seeing a portable one.

I don’t think they were recordable which is why cassettes won in the end.

In car only and you had to buy the cartridges ready recorded -I think they were more a US thing and the young guys around us used to have them plus a CB doing a poor man's Convoy
