adw1977 Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Year of manufacture 1975 according to DVLA, but registered March 1983. Currently SORN.
Dave_Q Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Cop a load of this... How did a mark 1 Escort make an 83(ish) reg? Can't remember the exact dates but before about the mid 80s, imports were given the current reg plate even if they were older. Edit: Found it - http://www.cvpg.co.uk/REG.pdf Prior to 1 August 1983, re-registered vehicles received a mark with the current year letter. Of course this could lead to problems - such as an owner being able to pass off a vehicle as newer than it actually is to increase it's sale price! So since then the vehicle's new mark depends on the date of first registration M'coli 1
Ghosty Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Googling the cc from the DVLA info says it has an Essex engine (?!). Prior to 1 August 1983, re-registered vehicles received a mark with the current year letter. Of course this could lead to problems - such as an owner being able to pass off a vehicle as newer than it actually is to increase it's sale price! So since then the vehicle's new mark depends on the date of first registration. Could be an early '80s Essex conversion, and when changing the V5 they had to re-reg so it ended up on 83Y? There's no MOT info etc but it's on SORN.
Dave_Q Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Googling says it has an Essex engine (?!). Could also be an early '80s Essex conversion, and when changing the V5 they had to re-reg so it ended up on 83Y? 1983 according to our friends at cvpg. I think it was probably a stolen/recovered or something, and got a new reg in March '83 because before Q plates.
Ghosty Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Seems we're at cross purposes with edits and have come to pretty much the same conclusion.reg.pdf is a godsend.
M'coli Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Q plates have been around for ages, it would be a suffix-Q for that age of car and year registered.
John F Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Is there such a thing as a Q-plate suffix? I thought they were all prefixes.
Dave_Q Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Fair enough, maybe it got pl8 r8pd in 1983, or imported from a RHD market (think it's RHD, can't be sure from pics).
Dave_Q Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Actually, these also seem to suggest that Q plates weren't introduced until 1983. Either way, if the Escort was registered (or re-registered) in March 1983 it predates them going to age related plates in August '83, I can't find anything particularly reputable but I believe Q plates weren't introduced until August '83. https://www.newreg.co.uk/a-history-of-motoring/http://www.carreg.co.uk/number-plates/prefix-number-plates/
sierraman Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Do they still issue Q plates? I haven't seen a newish car on them for years. It's always old ringed transits or crappy dutton kit cars.
Dave_Q Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Do they still issue Q plates? I haven't seen a newish car on them for years. It's always old ringed transits or crappy dutton kit cars. They definitely still do, probably mainly for kit cars, less so for stolen recovered as I'd be surprised if the DVLA have anyone left who knows how to spot one. A few years ago on the E30 forum, a blatant ringer was spotted for sale on popular auction site, it was a late model Neon cabrio, a special edition that was only sold from about 92-94. It's reg plate (as I remember for some reason) was D122UFT which related to an '86 E30 saloon. Anyway some forum members took it upon themselves to report this to DA MAN, the DVLA sent a bod out, who checked that the stamped VIN matched the logbook (which it did, because when this car was rung it would have been worth the effort to do it properly), and pronounced it A-OK.
DaveDorson Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I've got a 1974 1303 beetle that wears a V (suffix) plate.
Kiltox Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Check this out! 14138009_10208397393987342_4141675895173416230_o.jpgWow! Supernaut 1
Kiltox Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I'd ask if that was a ringer but it'd be strange to make one look newer rather than older for tax free goodness warren t claim 1
Ghosty Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 That's very weird. It has a year of manufacture 1991, a 2.3 diesel, and the model is listed as as an '88" - 4 CYL' Built up from parts?
Eddie Honda Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Q plates have been around for ages, it would be a suffix-Q for that age of car and year registered.Nah, I'd go with 1983 as that I think is also when all the local stuff had to be centralised by. I remember back in 1985 seeing (Arnold Shark, Charing X) a 1977 Merc on a suffix V plate. Import apparently.
Eddie Honda Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Built up from parts?Reconstructed classic? Everything over a certain age and year given on youngest scorable part?
quicksilver Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Y-reg All Aggro must be unusual as the last one got an X. Oxford reg again like the TR7 so possibly from the same dealer (Hartwells?) who must have had some unsold stock hanging around.1982 Austin Allegro 3 1.3 HL by Adam Floyd, on Flickr
4wheeledstool Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 There's three T-reg Mk3 Polo G40s (produced 1991-1994) Aston Martin, Pillock and Lacquer Peel 3
Ghosty Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Something about this doesn't look right to me:
Pillock Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 They had a facelift in 2005, nothing major but some had the rounded indicators like that, and some had thin ones from later in the year onwards. Also the shape of the wings, and the rear lights changed.
Ghosty Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Ahh that'll be it, I knew about the facelift but thought there was more to it than that! 55 was the last of the older ones it seems,
HillmanImp Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Saw this yesterday outside Moss Europe (I was in Screwfix across the road, don't get excited about me buying stuff for the Triumph). Dooovla have it down as year of manufacture 1987. Could be a cock up if it was imported from Jersey or summink? Its certainly late though. adw1977, brownnova, Dick Cheeseburger and 2 others 5
Asimo Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Nice wheels on the mini, horrid wheels on the MG.Was there a special run-out MGB edition?a
3VOM Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Could be a cock up if it was imported from Jersey or summink? Its certainly late though.Could it have been built from a shell?
omegod Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Nice wheels on the mini, horrid wheels on the MG.Was there a special run-out MGB edition?a I recall it was the LE model in silver and black
Tamworthbay Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Nice wheels on the mini, horrid wheels on the MG.Was there a special run-out MGB edition?aThat was the RV8 but it had different bumpers and a v8
NorfolkNWeigh Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Nice wheels on the mini, horrid wheels on the MG.Was there a special run-out MGB edition?aYes there was, the LE, and that looks like one . Probably put away unregistered, just like people did with the last Minis and are doing with the last Defenders. Those wheels were a factory option, Stag type 4 spoke alloys were standard.
