What was your girlfriend/boyfriends vehicle when you first met them?

This was my girlfriends car when we first met. Turned out to be a reliable runner apart from the inevitable electrical issues. The resistor which was under the dashboard completely melted.

Although current GF can't drive before I met her I had a fling with a lady who owned a Fiat Stilo.

Maintaining a workable erection knowing that she'd just paid £2500 for the Fiat was somewhat of a challenge.

The only girlfriend I have ever had never learned to drive.  Hugely ironic considering her mother was a driving instructor!

My girlfriend had a Mk3 Fiesta. The first time I was in it, I heard the rear wheel bearing howling and had to fit a new one. She knew I was a keeper after that 🤣

My exes have had a cavalcade of As-worthy rammel.

Mad parrot girl had a series of Carina Es

Crazy cat woman had a Hyundai Accent

Thieving Essex tart didn’t drive

an on and off before I met the mrs had a Yaris then a Rio.

My girlfriend back in 2002 (now wife) when we were both 21 had a 1998 Fiat Punto, base spec, 5 door. 1.1, in flat red with grey plastic bumpers. Cracking little car.

I must have liked girls with poverty spec faded red cars, my girlfriend previous to the wife had a mk3 Ford fiesta, 5 door, base spec, 1.3 in flat red with grey plastic bumpers 😂

The now Mrs Sutty had a mk4 Astra sport diesel in black on a 54 plate. I hated it, gave me chronic back pain to drive. The company she worked for issued her a fleet car (Kia ceed) and I took great please fucking the Astra off for her!

My girlfriend had a White Cinquecento very similar to the one below it was quite a nice car, much better looking than the Seicento that replaced it.

My previous mistake had one of those, with frilly stickers all over it. It was white too! She could drive anywhere with anyone, but wouldn’t drive past the end of her estate on her own. I was called upon to look at a misfire. Had a loose spark plug, it was a nail. I knew she had money, and told her I’d look for a better car for her but she refused my offer! How ungrateful 😂

My other half didn't drive when I first met her back in 2008.   She learned to drive when at Uni and was a bit of a shiter for a few years.  I helped her buy her first car - an N-reg sadface Fiesta 1.3.  It drove nicely and then decided to do an impression of Fred Flintstone's vehicle of choice and went over the bridge after about a year.

Then there was a Rover 200 that got ditched due to OMGHGF.  At this point she was training to be a teacher and the University had a deal whereby you could hire a car (rural area) if your car was questionable, so she drove around in a brand new Seat Leon, a sporty Clio and a Corsa.  She hated the Corsa.

Then there was a MK1 Ka.  She got a job in Guernsey a few months later.  Rather than taking it through an MOT, she decided to export the car to Guernsey as there are no MOT rules over there.  This I think, is the height of 'shiter spirit'.  After she came back, we parted ways for a couple of years.  I think she had another Ka that got written off but in the end the car that 'stuck' the longest was an 06-plate MK2 Focus 1.4 Studio.  Possibly the slowest thing on four wheels.  This would have been around 2014.  She had that up until about 18 months ago when my Mum's old BINI R56 Clubman Cooper Diesel replaced it.

Her sister's first car was an S-reg Seicento 1.1 Sporting in bright yellow.  She owned that for about 12 years.  It failed its MOT on rust (after being welded the year before) and it's currently sat on her parents' driveway... she now has a MK5 Fiesta.

My wife's first car was an Austin 1300 when she started learning to drive in the late '90's  Gifted to her by her grandad who had kept it in the garage for her for years.  Sadly its next MOT was the death of it, much welding & other work needed saw it scrapped, then life got in the way and she didn't end up passing her test until we got married 10 years later (then we got her a Citroen C3)

The ex had a terrible condition corsa C when I first met her.

Should have heeded the warning signs and run away there and then...

In 2007 I got a lift in my new girlfriend's (now wife) Daewoo Kalos. It was my first time in the beautiful* car. I wrote my name in the dashboard dust.

I was once seeing a girl that lived with her grandparents.  They were really nice.  Her Grandfather owned a Proton Wira 1.5, which would have been about 12 years old at the time.  Top spec with leather seats, etc.  It was actually quite good...

She didn't have a full license but had various cars in the past driven on her provisional, including what sounds like a 4 door MK2 Escort Sport.

I pushed her to take her test, now she has her Lupo and loves it

Met the Wife in 1980. She had recently written off her 1964 Mini and replaced it with a Viva HB.

The Viva was rotten as a pear, often broke down, and finally the wiring loom behind the dash caught fire.

It went for scrap soon after.

The gf I had when I turned 17 was some months older than me and had passed her test. I had a Hillman Imp Californian so had a tame licence holder for driving practise! Very few of my gf''s, including her, had their own car until one memorable one who had a Mini in the 80s (yes, just possible in the back) and the future Mrs H came with a Mk1 four door Escort. She wa only the second owner, the first was a friend of her Dad's. Escort became very poorly in the engine department as well as frilly underneath so was got rid of - they had little worth in the 80's -  and replaced with a Maxi.

My girlfriend's car when we met was an X reg Peugeot 206 with a 2.0 diesel engine.  Pretty quick, but I remember being appalled at how cheap the interior felt compared to the 51 reg Mondeo I had at the time.  In fact the 1991 Sierra I had before the Mondeo had a far nicer interior than her 2000 Peugeot!

When i first met mrsstinkwheel, (about 20 years ago) she was driving an AX 14 TZS. When we got together, (2 years ago) she was driving a Maestro diesel and still is (until it gets to the point there is no bodywork left and parts are even more unobtanium)

My current squeeze had what is now my green 1998 Suzuki Swift 1.0 GLS before she “upgraded” to a twinair Alfa MiTo which she still has. She is actually the third girlfriend of mine to have a Suzuki Swift as a first car so I clearly have a type 😂

Mrs Popsicle had a top of the range A reg silver Triumph Acclaim 1.3 CD when I got together with her in 1993. It had electric windows, central locking, acres of velour and a sunroof, very posh. Made my 1986 Cavalier 1.8 GLSi seem very spartan.

She has had this absolute cockroach for the last 5 years. I hate it's utter boringness yet I admire it's absolute inability to ever break down, consume any parts or need anything but a service and petrol.

But my god is it dull.

When we met back in 2008, MrsDC was driving a three-year-old Yaris that she'd owned from new.

Sixteen years on... still driving the same Yaris.

Looking a bit frilly underneath these days, and with plenty of battle scars, but still plodding on.

She's announced her intention to drive it until it's only fit for scrap, so we'll see if it makes it to its twentieth birthday next year.

I would scoff, but this thing has outlived fourteen of my cars over the same timeframe - so I'll just appreciate its cockroach-like tenacity...

When at college with the merchant navee, I had the reputation of having quite a turnover of shrapnel.  When I turned up at a girls house feeling ropey and told her I had a Yellow Fever Injection, she looked over my shoulder and asked where it was parked.  She didn't drive at the time, but soon learned.

The future Mrs w didn't own a car when I first met her, although she was living in East Dulwich at the time, which is pretty well served with public transport. She had just got shot of a FIAT Punto, which, much to my chagrin (I quite like FIATs) was a steaming pile of unreliable shit.

Many years ago I had a lucrative sideline taking my fellow workmates cars for MOT in my lunch hour.

Mainly lucrative because I generally got the work.

My late wife drove all the failures that I ended up with for next to nowt.

Think Allegro, Ambassador, Mini, etc. She was over the moon years later when she bought a brand new 205 with her own money.

My latest flame has a Kia Picanto Auto, owned from new 6 years ago. Around 5K on the clock now.

She passed her test in a manual years ago and bought an auto first car, by mistake.

Had to buy Auto's ever since because she forgot how to use a clutch!

Parents of a former girlfriend I was seeing upgraded from a mark 2 Cavalier to a beige mark 3 one (L or base) . This was 1995. We split up w before she turned 17 years old and very much in the "friend zone". Her parents bought her a mark 1 VW Polo. It was sitting outside her house for a few days before her birthday but she assumed it was someone else's until her parents gave her the keys.

Next girlfriend was 17-18 and was learning to drive. I think she passed her driving test in late 1997. Remember her picking me up on Saturday evening from my part time retail job. She had access to her dad's silver Renault 5 Campus. That relationship fizzled out after she left 6th form and was looking to go to Uni. During the summer of 1998 she took a temp job at Cromer Crabs and hooked up with a Bad Boy working there. Curse my being a Beta Male. :(

Next girlfriend was 19/20 but didn't drive. The one after her was 20/21 but only lasted a few weeks when she broke it off. She drove a J reg Fiat Tipo 1.6 which was nicer than the knackered Tempra I had. This was 2000.

Never bothered much with relationships after that.
