Yes, because when it's boxed in and won't start, I can really drive it around.

It was driving well a month ago.

I thought these cars were supposed to be sought after.

You and me both, Dicky! Ahem... Mk1 Granada, old enough to be tax-free, Essex V6, manual box, even a nice colour. Can't give the fucker away. :(

Eddy, could you not see if anyone on here wants to buy them?

If anyone does, feel free to inundate me with PMs! I'd be delighted to see them go to Shiters as at least I'd be fairly sure they will live, rather than being abused (which is what's happening now) or stripped.

Post up the dirty details sir, what they need, how much and pics man!

yeah, stick the details up, Eddie!

Indeed! With all due respect, complaining about them not mysteriously turning into cash is not going to get them sold! I've not seen any adverts for these cars so it's no wonder they're not bloody selling.

Eddy, if you're after a quick sale on the Granada, try that AfFordable Classics place, it's exactly the type of car he's always looking for.

^^^ Do you know I thought exactly that this morning while I was driving to work, I don’t know why it came into my head but it seems like a good idea. That guy knows how to charge for stuff when he’s selling but I’m sure a ex-cyprus v6 manual granny ghia will be gold dust for him.

Posted

Aye. I like Roger at Affordable Classics, even if the prices are never my cup of tea. I'd imagine it'll be right up his street.

Posted

That sounds like a good idea. He may even take over some of the re-registration issues and I'd be surprised if wasn't interested in the Metro too. Maybe not for his stock but he's bound to know someone who is interested if he's in that business,.

My dads just been diagnosed with meniere's disease (I'd never heard of it either)

Its a chronic incurable condition which leads to dizziness, constant tinnitus and eventually total hearing loss, He's only in his fifties... :(

What an absolutely miserable way to spend the next 30 or 40 years.

My dad's had menieres for almost 15 years now, it's a struggle at first while they get the meds straight but manageable - he still goes on foreign holidays/walks/climbs mountains and enjoys his life. It does mean he can't stand on a stool and look up to change a lightbulb any more, but that's probably a good thing too.

Not been a good week for Dads, mine's just been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. Fortunately, at 84 years old his footballing days were probably behind him anyway...

My grandad (dad's dad) had a major heart attack yesterday - fortunately he seems to be doing as well as can be expected and still has all his marbles, but at the age of 88 the options for surgery are relatively limited so will just have to hope for the best.

:lol::lol: I'm sure it would, what a pity mine's a GXL, built before Ford had even thought of Ghia! However, yes, that might be a good idea. As for advertising it/them, fair comment on the Metro (if you disregard the Metro OC forum and Facebook) but the Granada's been all over the internet for over a year. Car&Classic, ebay, autotrader, assorted web forums; at steadily (dizzily!) reducing prices.

A member of the Metro OC has been in touch (several times) from the first time I posted about the van's existence, and we've spoken today. He's a Metro collector. I can't tell you how many he has; not even sure he could! But he does proudly tell me of low-mileage examples hiding in his various barns. MoT won't be an issue as he would be transporting it; registration won't be either as he's based in Ireland. I named a price and he wasn't put off. So, light at the end of the tunnel on that one.

On Facebook a member of the Granada group asked me about it when it was still in Cyprus. He's asked again and I've offered him a discounted price; heavily so considering that it's now been shipped and will come with MoT and registration (it's much further along than the Metro is). I haven't heard back yet but then it was only last night I made the offer. If he's interested enough to ask twice, he's interested! Meanwhile, the Jeep owner will still be interested too, and tbh it won't matter much if he's sold the Jeep while he's been waiting.

My "complaining" is more a symptom of general depression and frustration, I think, so apologies for that. But I am seriously fed up with these two moneypits and need to replace them with one more suitable moneypit.

And for the users with the Dad problems above: best of luck, I hope things work out as well as they can for you all.

Posted

What kind of prices are you asking for the Metro and Granny Eddy? You never know, someone on here might be interested.

Posted

That all sounds pretty positive. I'm sure we can all relate to the frustration. As it happens, the last car I sold (Maverick) was stupidly easy (a friend bought it for full asking. Turns out he doesn't really do haggling!) and hopefully the BX estate will go through nicely. Makes up for the fact that no-one was interested in the beautiful Bluebird and the 309 was a world of pain from idiots and timewasters (though the eventual buyers haggled on the phone, turned up when they said they would and took it away with barely a glance).

It's the bad times that make me realise that being a trader really isn't the jolly a lot of people think it is.

what happened to your Bluebird DW?

Sold for a pittance on Ebay to someone fairly local who's using it as his winter runabout (better than his motorbike). I really should have kept that, but the problem was that I was seduced by the BX turbo diesel - which is better in every way (apart from headlamp warning and rear wiper design).

Just like my Bluebird - genuinely great car, but no one was interested and it went for way less than what it was worth

Good question! At the moment I don't want to quote any numbers (if you don't mind) because of the declared interest in both cars. If they fall through I expect I'll give you an answer, although I don't think they'll stir too much interest. Shiters tend to be too fond of a bargain to take on stuff like this! Having said all that, yes, they will be promoted here if I find they need some!

My wife (in her 50's) suffers with this, too. It involved several visits to specialist doctors & consultants in London, but now that the medicine has been sorted it's not too bad. Someone earlier said that you couldn't change a light bulb with this condition. true! Any movemnt of the head in that way is a problem, and my wife's golf has gone west as a result!

She found that doing gentle yoga on a daily basis helped. Can't offer a medical opinion (not qualified & don't want a visit from Injury Lawers4u) but it DOES help her. Ask the doctor what he thinks.

Cancer. Just found a second work make has been diagnosed with testicular cancer, one is 30 and the other 35, another work mate also has lung cancer and he's only 40.

Why in the name of all that is HOLY do new computers take a fucking ice age to set up - new lap top - powered up at 1700 hrs, still going through its bloody set up - updating 105 out of 124 and has been at this for about 2 hours now.

And currently cant get the bastard thing to accept my serial number for Office 2010.

Surely is.

I bought a new laptop (Asus) and a desktop (Zoostorm) at the end of November.

Zoostorm had no operating system (intentionally)

Ubuntu took 20 minutes to install from a USB drive. Did a few updates in the background that took about five minutes but let me carry on 'working' while it did. Install includes LibreOffice and tons of other stuff. At the cost of £0.0p

The laptop has Win7 installed but took almost 36 hours to get through it's greeting (45 minutes) updates, updates to the updates ad infinitum, the install Microsoft Security Essentials as I expected it to be virused to buggery after being online so long. MSE would do a 'quick check' - two bloody hours, then wanted updates, another two hours, then a full system check - I left it and used the other laptop. (Old Toshiba with buggered battery and dodgy power supply - now fixed).*

Teh WIn7 boasted of a blindingly fast boot up.

Switched both the Asus and the Tosh, running Ubuntu, on at the same time.

The Tosh beat the Asus, marginally but then loaded Firefox much faster and was online long before Windows had finished farting around.

The Asus now has Ubuntu on it and is much faster than Windows and zero hassle, including using iPlayer with no complaints, unlike WIndaz.

Sadly the Zoostorm died and has to be returned for resuscitation. Buggered memory.

* The Linux antivirus - Clam TK, takes around forty minutes for a full check - mainly for WIndows viruses so I don't pass them on as they can't do anything on a Linux machine.

Fucking brilliant. Just been told at work that I won't have a job after 4 weeks. There has been a lot of changes and my "employers" (I work for an agency :( ) of whom are contractors on tbe site I work at have been given a smaller area and less doors combined with a newer way of working meaning they won't need as many people as they already have, so obviously, being agency means that we are first out of the door.

Just as I was settling in the place, all the right noises were being made too regarding a permanent position. :(

So, with my car smoking out its own engine, a girl I've been chatting up already has a boyfriend and now I face losing my job.

FOR FUCKS SAKE.
