The grumpy thread

I have a Screwfix analogue of a Pela.

It works perfectly on both the Megane and the BMW, and several other cars I've tried it on.

As said above, make sure the car is hot when doing it.

I changed on the oil on the BMW after a good thrashing and it sucked out the 6.5L from the sump in a matter of minutes.

I believe that if you're in Gravesham there's a byelaws that restricts people from running domestic appliances in shared buildings after 2200...

I used to have a flat there and the flat above me put their (unbalanced) washing machine on at 2230, right above my head.  So I went into the corridor and turned off their mains supply in the meter cabinet.  Job jobbed.

Kind of both.  It's repairable but not in the time I have.  It did something terminal to the engine while crossing the Humber Bridge, smoke and noises and warning lights and everything.  Definitely can't recommend it as an experience.

My partner once broke down in the middle of the Tyne Tunnel at rush hour. A brand new toyota chr just cut out and wouldn't restart.

I bet she was fucking popular 🤣

What's the plan for it then @vulgalour?

I need someone to adopt it.  I've got 2 weeks until I move so it needs to be gone before then, that's a tall order for an old van that doesn't run any more.

It's on the verge of everything exemption, has excellent parts support, the ramp works now, and it has almost a full MoT on it which was a clean sheet pass.  Engine rebuild aside, it needs some rust repair to the windscreen surround for which I acquired a repair section, and a new windscreen which is £200-300 and readily available.

The sad reality is I'm too close to the house move to be able to sort this.  I haven't the funds or time to get the engine rebuilt or replaced, or to get the van transported to the new place.  That's why it's free, there's no way I'm going to be able to sell it for anything.  I don't want to scrap it but I will if it isn't adopted before I move because I'll have to.  It can't stay at this address once I've moved and I have no other option for it due to the house move.  Just rotten timing really.

I hope someone will take it on.

I could probably frame it up here at the weekend but I'd just be stripping it for parts for mine.

A friend of a friend has just visited to take a look.  Confirmed the engine is TOAST, but also immediately started looking for options for a replacement engine and transporting it asap.  Hopefully that means it's adopted, I'll keep everyone posted.

F4R is surely the only option which makes sense?

Ouch.  That overheating gremlin rear it's head again at a time where there was bugger all you could do about it?

Shame the van transitioned to a k series, but ultimately, worst case,it's a shonky Renault van,it's not like it's the princess has died.

Autodoc have had my order awaiting pickup by the courier since Thursday. They've never done that before, even during COVID delays.

Radio headline. “ Grangemouth has stopped production of crude oil”.

When has an oil refinery ever produced crude oil?
Is it asking too much to do 30 seconds of research even if you didn’t do GCSE Chemistry?

The clue is right there in the name, it's a refinery, you wouldn't think it'd take much brain to figure out what a refinery does.

Couple passed by with what looked very much like a polecat on a lead.

The grump being that there are three cameras in the room but the phone was closest.

And refused to take any photo's.  Stupid thing.  Not the first time it has done it either.

Just back from the town, garage did lots of chemically adroit things and tell me that I have lost my refrigerant due to an internal compressor leak.
Bugger.
Double bugger as we're off to the in-laws tomorrow, guess we'll be cruising down the M5 with all the windows open - how 1980s

It was confirmed yesterday that the firm I'd been chasing for payment since December is in liquidation.
It was enough money to matter. A lot.

I'm tired of clients not sticking to invoice terms.

Fuck.

Dunno, I might get paid in a few years when the receiver works through it all?

Dear so-called employer,

If you advertise a job at circa 30k then tell people right at the end of the application that 'probation' lasts for six months and is on minimum wage, you *cannot* expect me to be OK with that.

That needs to be declared *front row and centre* before anyone else wastes their time.

Oh, your sad little staff trying to defend it.
By the way, I don't believe you when you say that no-one else had a problem with it. Gaslighting alarm on blaze.

Thanks for giving me false hope.

Withdrawn.

(PS: if any right on management types feel like trying to justify this, I am merely making a statement. I don't need your po-faced exposition, because I'll probably tell you to fuck off. Neither of us want that, so kindly refrain).

Liked for the post, not for the hateful shit that job-finding involves. So glad I am now a pensioner.
