The grumpy thread

I had to travel to Chester. Sadly most of the centre appears to be holes with fences around. If you are thinking of going I would leave it a couple of years.

2 weeks ago I had an MRI scan on my left knee,

this evening the doctor phoned me on the way back from work to discuss the results,

apparently I have torn a muscle in my knee which is very serious and burst a couple of the anti friction sacks within the knee, doctor reckons it’s a lot worse than they were expecting

they are going to refer me to a specialist who will discuss possible surgery if they think there’s a chance it might work

not really grumpy as such just a bit numb,   I know there’s people with worst problems then me and I should just shut the fuck up and just get on but I can’t stop thinking about what’s going to happen, work family life etc

I’m going to Taunton early tomorrow for a couple of days for work, which is probably good as I can be on my own

These are both runs of around that distance and involve a minimum of one passenger plus cargo.  So a single seater isn't an option.

Not exactly friendly weather for driving that car either.

Honestly I'm not touching the fuel in the BX unless I have absolutely no other choice.  For all I know it's been in there since the 90s.  It definitely smells like it has been.  Main reason I've not drained it already is that it will be doing a good job of keeping condensation at bay.  No idea whether the car will run on it beyond shunting around the driveway...fresh fuel will be getting added before we attempt to run to the MOT station.

It's not going in anything else unless it's a last ditch life and death situation.  I've got more than enough broken cars right now without tempting fate.

perhaps im a bit late now but during the Zoom call I had another great* idea

apparently theres still a Petrol station near The 6-Cylinders that still sells 4* star petrol, and my thought was since thats not compatible with anything made in the last 30+ years then they are likely to still have some for sale while all other grades are sold out and that you could fill up TPA via that

but of course that does not solve the cargo/passenger issue, but it was pointed out of course the Jaaaag can run on Leaded just fine :)

so ironically perhaps one of the least fuel efficient cars out there, might be a solution to your issues caused by this whole fuel crisis?

of course I dont know what the range of the Jag is like, and I dont want to know what it would cost to fill given the cost of what is now a very obscure/niche fuel these days! LOL

The windows on that Cadillac need winding up...

Also, the red car has me completely foxed, I have no idea what it is.  Very frustrating.

Octavia shat a brake caliper on my way to clinic, in plumes of whitish smoke.

The door locks also appear to be playing proper silly buggers, locking/ unlocking completely at random.

Is it time for the bridge?

.... No Time To Die.  A less-than satisfactory Bond film, despite (because of?) many heavy references to the earlier movies.  Very heavy use of "All The Time In The World" from OHMSS; Also, nice to see B549WUU, Dalton's Aston that can be caught by Lada police cars on ice.  Except it was destroyed in that movie, much like the DB5 was in Skyfall.  Continuity, guys, come on...  A detail I did like was the corridor by M's office, with paintings on the wall of some of his predecessors, specifically Judi Dench and Robert Brown.  I was looking for Bernard Lee but failed to spot him.  I liked Craig as Bond.  I liked the cold hard edge he brought to the part, very much like the character in the books.  But this..... this was just too gloomy, in so many ways.  And the freefalling "quality" of theme song hasn't changed, each one more rubbish than the last by a long LONG distance.  This one being a perfect illustration....

Fortunately it was the sadist residential team doing the annual drill. I'm definitely feeling the resultant lack of sleep though!

I think it's billed as running 2:45.  That's quite enough.

I've been chasing an intermittent starting problem on my Mini MPI. Sure enough, when I turn the key to start it fires up first time 🤦‍♂️. Now I have to remove the dashboard to get to the immobiliser. Normally this isn't and issue but I'm really struggling with back pain and Mini's are not known for being the most comfortable of vehciles to start off with.

Mk2 Focus is an absolute arseache.  Actually, it's more of a headache as you have to dangle yourself upside down into the passenger-side footwell after hinging the fusebox down and cutting your knuckles in the dark.  It's behind the centre console.  Much worse if you're a fat fuck like me and all the blood rushes to your head.  Once you've done it, you'll get up and fall over with the headrush.

Then never, ever do it again.  Sod that.

In a fit of jealousy (and maybe due to not having been used much for a few weeks as it's almost empty and fuel crisis) the modern's decided to have a battery crisis. It's not even 4 yet ffs.

Guess that'll be needing a new battery.

House.

These all happened over a few weeks..

Shower started leaking- fixed

Bath cold feed - Burst pipe, so replaced

Bath sealant- split, ragged out and re-sealed.

That must be it right? . NOPE.

Shower switch failed (1hr before i needed to be in work, so mad dash to screwfix etc before work)

Front door barrel failed - Replaced

And last week the boiler 🙈

So yeah, I'm now piss poor 😅

.... ooh yeah and the dog decided to cost me £65 at the vets too 😲😅. No more horrible surprises please life

Could be worse. Could be a K11 Micra where you have to take a hacksaw and cut off part of the dashboard.

I count myself lucky if a visit to the vet with my cat only costs £65.  Last month I paid out over £300 for one visit.

Only the first time. We sold a base model 02 Micra to a woman who came back complaining that the car took ages to demist. It turned out to still have the original pollen filter in after 9 years. We had never even thought to look as it was a non a/c model. But it only required a few tabs to be snipped through.

Yes, we paid €450 last year and ended up with a dead dog. An x-ray found a large liver tumour, which was game over.

What was annoying was the suggestion that we had an additional ultrasound at another €200, just to make sure. Which was €50 more than my wife had paid for a private ultrasound 3 months before.

Actually had to go out today on a journey which involved both public transport and walking around a busy city.

This was an interesting experiment for me as it basically was a way of questioning whether it was vaguely comfortable going beyond my immediate local vicinity for essential journeys only.

Answer is an absolute immediate and resounding no.

If someone else had not been relying on me I'd have turned right back around the moment I stepped onto the platform at the train station and saw how many folks were waiting.  Wasn't quite standing room only but not far off.

Just absolutely did not feel even remotely safe.  The antivax propaganda sticker on the train window next to the seat I was in was a nice touch.  I couldn't see a single person wearing a mask from where I was sat on either the outward or return trips.

My ability to deal with crowded places and such has always been minimal but it's just absolutely non existent now.

Feel utterly inescapably trapped here and cannot forsee any course of events which is going to change that.
