couldn't you submit your work in someone else's name?

But then he's going to need an email address in that name, not to mention a bank account.

Dicky, has the entire classic-car press blacklisted you?  Or maybe just one publishing house?  Maybe see if there's any freelancing available for one of the others?  It's not going to make you wealthy but it'll build you up a body of work that you can show around later.

Bauer are quite frankly a shower of cunts and I wouldn't want anything to do with them now anyway. Kelsey never got back to me. I was holding off putting a blog up on here because I thought I might be able to make it pay, but fuck it. The content seems much more appreciated on here. It's just hard to see people getting hired who don't have the fleet or the knowledge that I do.

Of course it is!  We lap it up, it's nothing short of brilliant!  Keep it up!

Why not start making YouTube videos? Requires a lot of work in both doing and marketing but once you build up a following it can make a decent livable income.

You would be streets ahead of others in that respect re: youtube.

Nowt to lose!

I suppose if Dicky has a trusted friend he could use their email and account details?

Letting Agents really are shite hawks aren’t they?

post-20078-0-45827400-1514801652_thumb.png

Other than “shit we’ve made up to take money from you” can anyone tell me what these charges aren’t actually meant to be paying for? “Agreement fee”? “Check-in fee”?

Posted

Yes, the gubbermint are attempting to put a stop to these ripoff fees. Something good they've done, who'd have thought it!

I was lucky with my house in that I paid the agent a one-off referencing fee of £50 and from then on I've dealt directly with the landlords, who live next door, and are decent people. I loathe shitehawk letting agents so this works well for me.

I'll third the YouTube comments.....I don't buy many magazines at all anymore but I watch a lot of content on YouTube. Enjoy dollywobblers stuff and (he can correct me If I'm wrong) there doesn't seem to be much expense required to make a video these days. Obviously there's a big time overhead in terms of all the forward planning and post production

Check in fee - they use a third party to do an inventory who charges them for doing so, so they charge you.

Reference fee - the same

Other stuff is horse shit but makes them an absolute killing. Lots of agents don’t break it down like that, just tell you it’s £ridiculous

Doing a quick (or so I thought) spray job on some bits for the Capri. Someone has been there before and god knows what paint they have used but it’s reacting like a bastard and I have wasted best part of a can of paint and will need to strip it all back again.

Apart from the fact that the laptop I bought back in March, which has nowhere near a suitable spec, is bursting at the seams. As is my 1tb caddy. So I guess I might be laptop hunting in the New Year sales, less than a year after buying a laptop. I'm an idiot. Still, might be nice to have a posh laptop to use at home and do the video editing on, and then use this little one for when I'm away.

As for blacklisting, I doubt that very much. It just isn't as easy as sending work in and getting published. Editors are under a ton of pressure, especially at this time of year. It's more to do with a lack of organisation/spare time more than anything I reckon. Don't take it personally. Videos aren't a bad shout though. I'm sure videos of a young chap tinkering with ancient tin would be well received. Just bear in mind that it's taken me four years to build up a sizeable audience. At first, you'll mostly be talking to yourself.

After singing the praises of the VW Polo (which goes against every grain of my not insubstantial body) and booking it in for MOT on Wednesday morning, the little bastard has rewarded me with blowing a headlight dip bulb. No problem, sez I, I have a stock of new bulbs. After removing the skin off several knuckles, I have given up, and it looks like all the forums are correct and the front bumper has to come off to remove the headlight to change a feckin bulb That is tomorrow fucked then.

I really, really hate modern shite! (before you say anything, anything post 1970s is modern shite!). Who designed a car you have to remove the front of to change a feckin bulb! Will change them all whilst I am in there.....

Been doing that for years.

No one ever argues.

Oh, also making me grumpy is the fact I seem to have lost several days of Invacar video footage. Probably related to the storage issues I have, so I'm trying to move video files around all of the time. I think I ballsed up and now I'm pretty upset. That included footage of the first 'drive' on axle stands.

I agree- having rented for over twenty years. However the current agents, at that time, didn’t charge a penny. I was amazed! No reference fee, no check in fee, no credit check and no tenancy agreement fee. Crown estate did it all.

Of course they do have £1600 of my money sitting about doing nothing as a deposit.

Hmm. I could try, but I don't particularly like the sound of my own voice, and I don't have a beard worth mentioning! I do have a channel (same as my username) but I haven't updated it in years.

I don't think you need a new laptop, you need more storage. Since I've started doing 'proper' youtube videos of 30 mins or so, each video is about 3gb, plus 1gb of associated photos me and my 2tb drive is 3/4 full. The stuff you do, I'd invest in a good 10tb network drive and that should see you right, I plan to drop a few 4tb drives into my file server to give me some headroom

Just get a funky hat, no-one cares if you don't have a beard.

This is true, having thought about it. Once we get fibre broadband, my ideal would be a network server drive, that also backs up to the cloud so I can access stuff whether I am. Even the network drive would be a good start! At the moment, I'm always pissing about with various caddy drives.

Good news is I think I've found my missing files. Seems I'd stashed then in a Vlog folder. Phew!

Even a low rent pc that will run windows 7 will hold some hard drives, or talk to sheefag about a Nas box. Nas boxes themselves are quite expensive, a cobbled together pc would be cheaper, someone on here would probably build you a ready to go freenas server (pop over to the tech thread in the other bar) if you ponied up for the drives

YES!  Ask Ashleigh to present, while you tinker impressively.  Choose the hat carefully.

And hers.

Please, bear with me.  I'm 5 days into a chest infection, 4 days into my antibiotics.  I've even strained my chest muscles trying to cough so much, and it hurts to just cough, but, for the moment, I'd like you all to imagine something quite special.

So imagine, if you can, a bus race.  The sort of race that results in a slipstreaming battle approaching a hairpin.  Now imaging the noise as they each try to out-brake each other, having each deployed their voith retarders at slightly different times.  Just imagine this noise!

This is the best way to describe how my my chest sounds as I breathe out...

My sympathies. Injured my back and ribs once, then acquired a heavy cough.

I will get the Datsun home this year.

I did manage to get these up at last though;
