What the sweet fuck is wrong with motor factors these days. Gone round a few trying to get plug leads. They all want a reg plate. I have said numerous times to them you have leads on a hook there. Can't you just match it up. No apparently computer won't allow it. Found one though. Took a lead off the volvo and said any of these. He came back with multiple boxes until he found a match. That's how it used to be.

Same when I went in recently and asked for a cylinder head gasket for a blue van, they were not helpful at all....

My ecpe won't honour online discounts in store. For the volvo exhaust I had to ring them, they ordered it in then I ordered it online next day. Worked OK as can't see anyone else wanting a 1400 volvo 340 exhaust in the time frame

They fucked up brake discs for the meriva as expected once. Had to refund in store, but they couldn't match the online with code price so I had to go back outside, reserve on my phone, have a smoke and wait for their system to update (to be fair the guy poked his head out and beckoned me when he saw it) then pay it again!

I use a local independant - if my request lists two different types of part he gives me both as long as one comes back.

He is very reasonable and only uses mann/purflux/unipart filters.

I have no need for ecp.

I cannot praise Midway Motor Parts in Ludlow highly enough.

Likewise Lloyd's garage, Stourport on Severn.

Both places have helpful, knowledgeable staff who have common sense

Ludford parts, Ludlow can you just burn down please. Unhelpful bums work there

I was impressed at the fit of the exhaust. I was expecting a pair of brake drums for a 1999 mitsubishi gallant

I was going to tidy the garage and start on the Dyane today. Naturally, it is pissing down.

Having a down day and giving serious consideration to parting with my Datsun.

Seeing all the people digging in and progressing with their shite and I can't even keep the cat piss tarp on mine.

I assume everyone gets those days-weeks-months-years, I know I do. I try and set easy goals to get a 'win' and that can be as little as tidying up the work space so next time I go there I don't start with facing a massive tip.

Go small-claims on his worthless ass. Who had the linky recently for the online process?

They're probably hoping that RG isn't going to pursue a claim when their dog met it's end.

Sad as it is, there's a car that needs replacing as a consequence of their actions.....

Posted

It's very simple: the owner of the dog is responsible for keeping it safely controlled at all times, and is liable for any damage it may cause.  Tim is a nice bloke, polite and pleasant, and the dog owner is apparently taking advantage of him.

This is not acceptable...

Stick with it. We visited a friend over Christmas who works abroad but still keeps his house here. (You should see the fucking state inside the house, it was like being on a film-set, but anyway), we worked out that he's had a Toyota MR2 in his garden half bricked up on 2 wheels for welding since 2007. To be mot'd next summer.

Fucking cars. Mrs Shrimp just got out of the drive in the ST, bang! Passenger spring fired straight out of its cup.

Can just about get my hand in and feel its not rubbing the tyre but it's definitely scraping something so it's now stuck in the middle of the road no 25 yards from the house.

Good job she gets it serviced at the main dealer as it comes with Ford assist. They'll be here in the next 30 mins. Think they're sending the AA.

Edit: AA been. Not much they can do really as they've the only option to ditch it at the dealers who they know have a barrier up. Stuck it in the parking and they're coming to take it away Tuesday.

Fuck that. Shite Mojo waxes and wanes, but you’ll kick yourself if you bail out of the Datty. Getting another when your mojo returns will be impossible.

Think about what you have around you and bail out of that if it helps. I know Vlad doesn’t owe you loads maybe a bit could be made on that to go toward the Datsun fund? Don’t feel I’ll get Mardy or owt, I didn’t like the fucker either.....

Thanks, it will probably come to that in the new year as whilst it did a great turn keeping me mobile, it costs rough 10-20 per week more to run over a dirty derv.

Aye, Ford Assist use the AA. I made much use of it with my Focus TDCI, regularly getting recovered back to the dealer even from outside the house, and even being able to "book" a recovery for the morning after.

They'll also sort you a courtesy car for a day if you need it, free. When the Focus lit up the dashboard with faults one night about 10 miles from home, I limped it back and dumped it outside the house. Phoned them about 10pm, told them I didn't need immediate recovery but could they sort it in the morning as I had a job interview 90 miles away at 2pm. 8.30am, AA knock at the door, a quick fault code scan and it's on the back of his dolly going to the dealer. He then took me to another dealer as they had a car available for me, got a nice Fiesta Titanium Ecoboost for the day - no fuel to worry about, "It's got about 300 miles in the tank, will that do you?" Actually a really good deal, and I don't think the Ford Service was too expensive really.

Trolls on AS.

The fact that I've been blacklisted by the classic car press and can't get any writing work. If only the Automobile had taken me on, but no, my face didn't fit. I tried and tried and tried and it just wasn't good enough.

Not having enough money left over at the end of the month to spend on maintenance or all the cars I want for my collection.

Dad doesn't want to see the Rover again and wants me to scrap it - I don't want to do that and I think getting the damage fixed would do the job, but that would cost £300 + I don't have.

That I'm spending NYE in a shed in my parents garden, my long-term depression I had managed to shake off after 10+ years is rearing its head again.

The previous owner of the Standard is whinging about me painting it, he's upset about the crappy 80s paint job being lost and is implying he wouldn't have sold it to me had he known. I'm sorry for giving a very much non-original, unwanted and unfashionable old car a new lease of life.

2017, or at least this last week can fuck right off.

Give him a nice cheery smack in the face, stupid old duffer. How dare you paint your own car, I mean the cheek of it...

You're bringing back memories of NYE 2008, when I'd sacked off all my old mates because most were twats, and spent the evening smoking copious amounts of spliff in my mums garage. Even put radio 4 on for the pips so I could light up at the right time. Half miss those days...

Pretty standard Grump really, I suppose....

Now that I've seen the Bedford CF that Billy put up in the ebay thread, I can't unsee it.  I can't take on a project; it's a long way too far away; I haven't got any money; I've already got three cars.  But... but... but...

Shit.  Buggeration.  Bow-lerks.

You need to drive it round slammed and rimmed up, and hurt him in his retinas with ebay HIDs.

Is it worth pursuing a press job? Is there any future in it what with the internet and all? What about doing it for yourself, or some kind of collective, like some kind of internet based thing. If you don't fit in with the boring old fart traditional hacks that's a good start. I know if I want to see the news, the papers are the last place to look.

Here we go, firework frenzy on this estate for the next two hours....

Posted

There were some twats on my estate letting off fireworks at 7.30 this evening while I was trying to have a nap.  Including three which literally sounded like a fucking bomb going off.

Fireworks have been on and off all night but the last 10 minutes have gone absolutely bat shit crazy, I can actaully feel the house vibrating from all the bangs. I'm just pleased the kids have slept though it!

If it's any consolation Dicky, I'm lovin' what you're doing with the Standard.  Keep writing about it here!
