Wood deliveries. They go wrong every time! Last time, back in the spring, our delivery arrived on a pallet, as normal. However, it arrived in a Merc Sprinter, with no tail-lift or pallet truck. HELPFUL. We therefore had to unload it by hand.

Today, new company. Chap finally finds us (not easy to be fair, which I like) but his previous delivery has been rejected, so he has to unload a load of stuff before he can get to our timber. This is going fine until the pallet truck manages to fall off the side of the truck. Well, just the main powered wheels. Bloke goes spare at this point, calling his colleagues and complaining that they can't offer much help. Well, what are they meant to do?!

I just grabbed a couple of planks, and Mrs DW and I leaned upon them to lever the thing back into the truck.

Thought that was our problems dealt with. Gorgeous, sunny day, ideal for stacking wood in the store. Then it rained. SERIOUSLY rained. It was bloody cold! I was wearing a very thin T-shirt. Panic stations as we try to cover the wood, deal with overflowing gutters and remember that the Proton is sitting on the driveway with the sunroof open because it's full of water.

Rural life has its own challenges.

I know a fair few people that work for big retailers in Scotland and none of them are forced to work a Sunday but some do so for the extra pay.

Don't see why it would be different if England decided to join the 20th century

Long standing friends have decided to buy another car... They have a Freelander 1.8 that they have owned from new in 2003. Amazing. 83K and now two wheel drive owing to broken stuff. They have taken a shine to a three year old Audi SUV thingy. 17K. Fair enough if you like that sort of thing. They were offered £500 in part exchange for the shonky Freelander but turned it down as it ' had a new engine in 2007' and must be therefore worth more.

They maintain that the Freelander is therefore worth £2000 and won't budge.

Idiots. I give up.

Having worked in retail back in the day, "extra pay" amounts to hee-haw. Double-bubble Sundays disappeared many years ago and I only recall doing Sundays as 5 days of pay wasn't much use to live on.

So mibbie not forced in a gun-to-head sense, but indirectly forced probably.

Changing the trading laws doesn't make that situation worse though does it - pay rates are an entirely separate matter.

As Mr Honda points out it contributed.......at first it was voluntary and for overtime.

Then quickly because normal hours..........and so didn't qualify as overtime because normal hours innit.

I'm not against it for religious reasons.........more family/lifestyle reasons really......families should have one day way they can chill or fight together.

And I don't get what is so great about being able to go shopping. Or what the great rush is.

I'm alright Jack (!!)...I enjoy full weekends.....and look forward to them. Mrs Alf doesn't work because the kind of work she would get would inevitably be evenings/weekends. I'd rather have less money and more time.

Friends.

Especially those useless ones that say they'll ring you in the morning/2:00 in the afternoon and then don't because they are busy. So am I and spending the effing day waiting for you was not in the calendar! Mate has been borrowing the KIA pretty much on and off for the last month and today was the day it was coming back. he finally turned up 2 hours later than he said, the car is filthy inside and out and there's no fuel in it at all - light flashing the works.

People wonder why I am always getting rid of friends, simple really: I'm too old to put up with people who take the piss.

You loaned someone who you consider a friend a car. Thats very generous of you and also trusting. Sadly some people are of the ilk who think its right to take take take. If id have borrowed it as a thank you id make sure it had a full tank and bloody good clean. Sadly not everyone is like that. Tell him where to go in future.

A good deed never goes unpunished.

I've leant out so many tools and never got them back, I'd rather do the job myself, for free and get to use my angle grinder/ torque wrench etc etc again!

Having just been paid my annual bonus I thought I'd check up on the 1953 Citroen TA 11BN for sale locally. First checked with my traction mechanic friend ( whom incidentally in a previous career designed the Nescafé logo) if he was free tomorrow. Yes, no problem. So check back on the website to get the sellers number - and find it's no longer available. Sold! Ho and indeed hum.

This pees me off greatly as I'm one of those people who is greatful for people's generosity, the last car I borrowed for 2 weeks which was a mates spare car it went back polished, inside gleaming, fuelled, I even took a look at the brakes while it was with me as the rears were sticking a little with the lack of use, oh and he wasn't in when I was dropping it off so I picked up some beers on the way and left them on the drivers seat as a thanks to him

Had a major falling out with an accountant last year over taxes. He was seriously against them. At all. Considered them something to be avoided at all costs. What a narrow-minded pillock.

Absolutely. What a twat.

Just out of curiosity, what's his number?

Purely so I can tell him what I think of him, you understand..... ;-)

Am tired, my back hurts like a bastard, my leg gives way and my left wrist is making those very familiar arthritis-like pains that I know so well from other bits of body. My mojo is waning again and I am sick of it.

Years ago I borrowed a Skoda 120 (I think) off a mate for a couple of weeks. It got a carb rebuild while it was with me & some electrics sorting out as it stopped in the middle of nowhere for no good reason.

I also got complemented by the mate I'd borrowed it off for how well I could drive it sideways in the wet when she was a few cars back in a queue :D

Received a phone call at 1130 this morning from the real bubs mum. Can i get to derby asap there has been an accident. Her,her sister ,rhys and her other two children were driving from derby, stopped at an island but the lorry behind didnt. Knocked the car forward, boot is non existant, car creased up. Luckily no major injuries. Driver of lorry not paying attention.fucking joyous. Took them all to hospital

Posted

One of kids is petrified to get in a car,i bought them back from hospital and he was shaking everytime someone came behind me,my son is just bruised and shook up,youngest got away fine. Rhys mum has severe whiplash, bruising and cuts, her sister has broken nose, fractured cheekbone.

Got fucking badgered all last week to take amys mums old sofa to the tip (the nice leather one we gave her and her stupid fucking dog tore to shreds within 2 months). Agreed to do it today. I wanted to do it this morning but Amy wanted to go out, so I CHECK THE WEBSITE and the tip closes at 6. Fine, I'll do it later.

3.45, me and a mate take the car seats out of the Zafira, drop the seats and go over to mother in laws, me shitting myself as I went to overtake a car and got fucking nothing forward propulsion wise from the stupid thing, so dropped back, pulled in and looked like a twat.

Got this fucking sofa out of the garden and into the car with a load of other fucking shit, and off we go to the tip, which is up a big hill, which needed 1st,and no amount of throttle application made it go up any faster, just dicked a load of fuel.

Got to the fucking tip, past shitty temporary traffic lights at 4.20. Ace, fucking loads of time... Fucking closed, big 9am to 4pm sign on it. Wtf. Checked the website, 6pm... Then it dawned on my mate that it's the 1st of October... Cunt, they've not updated the website for the winter times...

So back down the fucking hill, reverse fly tipped it all down behind her mums shed until next weekend as I'll be bollocksed if it's coming into my garden all week and killing my grass, back home, rebuild the stupid bastard thing, then get told off for using loads of fuel...

Grrrrrrrrrrr

Fucking indicator relay not working/clicking is annoying too, made myself look even more of a twat when aborting my overtake as I indicated back in, then went to cancel it due to stupid wanky soft touch stalks, but ended up indicating right again for 3 miles before peering under the wheel and seeing the telltale... Hendry, where is the flasher relay on a Zafira B and what other vauxhall shit shares it so I can get a cheap one?

Beer time when the stupid boy goes to bastard sleep

Doesn't affect me, but out of the blue it's been announced Monarch Airlines have ceased trading effective immediately.

That's a lot of people fucked over, travellers and workers alike, and right on the wake of the whole Ryanair holiday thing.

Wonder where the planes will go. (I'm vaguely interested as Old Man's trade is compliance testing of aircraft interiors).
