That seems to be the case with all forums. Never understood why no one can seem to create a decent one.

I know one forum with a decent search, it's powered by google.

I had a few car and bicycle related jobs I wanted to get on with this weekend.

So what's happened in the past couple of hours? Snow.

My list for the weekend is

Get more coal

get chainsaw chain

sort coolant leak on saab

investigate heater flaps on saab

find impact driver & adjust drivers door to get rid of tiny bit of wind noise

clean more rust off bike & paint bits - bike is parked outside as garage is full

maybe cut more firewood

It's starting to snow here too

Who would have thought it? Snow. In February. In the north of Scotland.

Searching is actually database intensive. Sites like Autoshite usually run on ONE server, and it's that ONE server that has to serve you your daily feeding of postbanken, rimlar, lolz and rofls as at the same time search the database for Metro, Rover and FAIL. Google on the other hand has millions of servers that share the load and can do a far better job of it. Google sell you and yours to advertisers and profit from that.. Dave sells...you to whom?

Last time I looked, I never saw an ad or a pop-up anywhere.

It's becoming unusual rather than the norm.

No, its a Mitsubishi Space Runner. The one I used to own and insure with the same company that says fuck you and your car insurance desires.

I had the same issue. My lad said I could have his honfa prelude for free. Tried insurance and can't get reasonable price. So I shall just keep my Japanese bus. Or part ex my bus for a xc90 or landcruiser. Haven't made my mind up yetc. Choices choices.

Just made me angry. They were happy to insure it in 2015.

Snowing in Torquay! The grump is though: not enough :( Not even settling but it is frightfully cold on ones old bones!

It's bastard freezing and I've got to drag wires through the house to complete the rewire, but that means turning the electricity (and the heating) off. It's been running full bore since 8AM and I've managed to get it up to a heady 17 degrees.

I'm thinking we'll get by without a landing light or sockets in the middle floor for another few weeks, so maybe I'll just continue to sit here in my dressing gown with the fan heater on my feet while I drink gallons of coffee and fart all day.

Sodding weather.

I'd planned to spend the weekend working on the Volvo but it's freezing outside and it's been snowing on and off all day so far. It's getting heavier now.

I suppose at least it's not raining (yet!).

Why is anything to do with car insurance such a massive pain in the ass?

Run my Dad's details though COMPARETHEFUCKINGMEERKAT.KOM and get an acceptable price. Check the details to make sure theyre correct and the price jumps up £50. run them through again and the price increases again. The original price has vanished into thin air and nothing I can do can retrieve it. The price just goes up and up

I'm going to the zoo to kill some meercats Bastard things.

What is it with the quality of parts these days. 18 months ago I bought new calipers and discs for my Plug 305.  6 months ago had to replace the caliper slides on one side and now I've had to change discs again because one side warped.

The original discs and clappers lasted at least 16 years. Were on it when I bought it so likely were on it from new. GRRRRR

Same up in Surrey. Need to wash the bike but it's too cold to go out again.

Well I was supposed to be going down to West Wales today. It wasn't the snow that stopped me but a bleeding nose, no I haven't been thumped (no matter how much I might deserve it) it's been bleeding on and off since I got up; looking on the bright side I'm assuming that the loss of blood will lower my blood pressure.

Because FUCK YOU, thats why.

Insurance - the only time in life when you are legally obliged to buy something from a private company run for profit and pretty much a law unto themselves.

Daves top tips when comparing meercats....

Private browsing so no cookies recorded.

Dont enter car reg, go by make n model.

Use your next door neighbours address.

Use your own birthdate, but accidentally get the day wrong.

Random digits for the phone number.

Disposable email address.

etc etc....enter nothing that ties the quote to you or your car.

Once you get an acceptable quote, go to that brokers site directly and enter your real details.

Parts are poor quality because everyone shops on price .

Or just screenshot the first quote and ring the insurer directly. You'll tell em you got a quote, they'll take the ref number and match it.

You'll miss out on a cuddly toy or whatever for not using the comparison site, boo hoo.

Not having a registration number makes quotes for a 2017 Duster Access (which I don't have a reg number for yet) £200 plus more than using the registration of a pre registered one

Had a proper bollock ache of a week. Parking at work - they've just resurfaced the overflow car park and added barrier control, we have 50 spaces in there so in their wisdom they issued these passes to people who agreed to park in the overflow all the time thus freeing up 50 spaces in the main car park. Great? No, because they've given them to fucking temps and directors who half the time aren't even here, so the main car park is still always full and every time I want to park I have to check the main car park, no spaces, park in visitors, go to reception, get a temp pass, drive round to overflow, park, bring the pass back...its at least a 15 minute exercise, that's coming out of their time not mine.

Traffic has been a total bastard every day, not entirely unusual but has been shite even by M6 standards. Then Thursday night, just as I was thinking I am properly fed up with this whole commute/parking/work bollocks, I had a flat on the way home, drivers side front. Had to stop on the hard shoulder, didn't have the courage/stupidity to change a wheel on the traffic side in rush hour in the dark, so a very cold wait for the AA...fortunately they were on form and turned up in about 35 mins.

Tyre was totally bolloxed, probably due to being driven flat and the one on the other side wasn't up to much, so two new tyres today at £170.

Had some insurance document turn up with my address but some strangers name on it, so wondering what kind of treachery is occurring, or about to occur there.

Did have some minor success on le French merde today, but nothing to turn the overall feel of the week into anything resembling success.

Money again....or lack of it, more specifically. I havent been paid for January because reasons unkown. This happens occasionally and is always sorted out eventually but its particularly sore this month due to post Xmas comedown and Jan is a particularly shit month for me due to EVERYTHING needing paid at the same time...various car insurance policies, house insurance, water bill and a few other things all fall within a couple of weeks.

I need rid of the escort and was just going to scrap it, but decided to chance it on LeBonCoin to see if I could recoup a couple of pennies for it, but I guess not. One message from some rocket scientist asking if it was still available and he never replied when I said yes, and thats it. Looking at cars under 500 locally, there are suddenly a few in reasonable order including another Escort estate all the same price as mine or less and in less remote locations, so mine wont sell.

Ken, try trade insurance quotes

On the subject of which

My motor trade insurance hovers about £1500-£1800 bracket for up to 200 cars, recovery cover, premises and tools, public liability etc. I've been with the same company for 7 years, let's call them 'toadbummer' and despite having not claimed in those 7 years the renewal was about £2200,pisstakers wouldn't drop the price until tradex offered me a policy at £1660 or £1500 if I took it out on that very day. Told toadbummer and they did me a renewal at £1630,stuck with them as it's a better policy

I reckon there'd be a pretty harsh 'comedown' for that shiter once he got home and looked at it sat on his drive though
