The grumpy thread

My auntie suffered a stroke on Tuesday night and has been in an induced coma since.

We just got the news she has suffered irreparable brain damage and will never regain consciousness, the doctors think she won't last the night.

So I have now lost all my aunties and grandparents. And the worst thing of all is that she never got to meet my daughter which will haunt me forever.

Sorry if it's not the right place to post, just feel helpless right now. Gonna miss her terribly.

My sympathies GG. We're all here if you need us.

GG, mate,

I don't know you, I didn't know your Aunt, but I do know how painful times like this can be.

Her pain, if any , was short, more likely a brief moment of confusion before the lights greyed out. But for you, the hurt can be immense.

There are few words, only condolences, empathy, understanding. So I hope I act for most here in wishing you, and your family well, that you remember her fondly, and eventually move on with your lives.

In the meantime, live each day, as best you can

Sorry to hear that GG. If it helps to post here then we're all here for you.

Similarly, my grandma died about a month after my first son was born. I'd have loved her to have seen him as she loved kids and its always upset me a little that she never saw him.

Damn, sorry to hear this. Condolences to all :(

GG, so sorry to hear your news and what you are going through.

I hope that in time your sadness will be replaced by happiness that you have had people in your life who have obviously been  good to you, and meant  much to you.

Thank you all for your kind words, it brings a lot of comfort to me knowing that I have support all around.

I feel sorry for my mum as she was her sister-in-law and her best friend and now she's got nobody who to really talk to about things.

I'm keeping as positive as I can and not letting it get to me too much.

Didn't do mine for maybe 2 years.  Even had the Police check my details when I was at a storage place and they'd had a call about the alarm so were looking around.

Ended up doing it online using my passport details, the photo's that small and printed over you can't tell who or how old you are anyway.

I forgot/neglected to renew mine although I had had a reminder three months early.

Due to the inability to get off my arse and go to the PO or take a selfie, I had them use the passport photo - that was taken from the previous driving licence :)

Paper section came back wiped clean of the speeding points that they had wanted £15 to clear :) :)

ED:  Condolences GG.

I've had a non-friendly quote for my pair of motors too. XM is a month shy of 20 years at renewal, so it looks like Peter James will only quote for it as a modern. And I'm not paying over £400 to insure the pair! So, I'm going to have to go quote-hunting.

Ian - have a butchers here

I looked on eBay for polaroid TV, and saw several nib ones identical to the boxes shown in the apparently stages photos of carnage. I also saw shit loads of PCBs and circuit boards...

I'll stick to my 7 year old 720i Foehn & Hirsch (with a samsung panel my PC says when its hooked up with HDMI) Ebuyer special telly thanks. When Eva smashes it, then I'll get a new one!

A satisfied Ebuyer customer, makes the shite I put up with worth it.

Got my estimate - £600!!! Most of that is painting to be honest, the wing is about 70 quid for a new one.

If it was a scratter I would sort it myself but its Wifeys baby and to be honest if i got a speck of dust in the paint finish she would go crackers. At least if its a team of professionals I can't be blamed. For once.

All friendly neighbours are primed and on the lookout......

The thing is, those Polaroid LCD TVs that the folks on telly were fighting over, are utter shit.

Aye.

The ones I've seen in ASDA have the same menus as my 2012 Sharp TV which would make it a rebadged Vestel chassis.

Had three Vestel TVs and one of them was OK (a 28" widescreen Pacific CRT behemoth) but the other two have been complete junk. I didn't pay much for the Sharp thankfully as it's just been a joke. It's had two remote controls after they've just died, didn't bother getting a third because the YouView remote can control power and volume. It never switches on first go and even the power LED has broken.

As some of you may be aware, I work for one of the large retailers involved in the Black Friday promotion. Given the amount of electrical returns I have to collect (non working broken stuff returned by customers) and the amount of those returns that are televisions, I reckon all those jeremy Kyle contestants busy killing each other are wasting their time. There are some genuine loss leader bargains to be had, but a lot of it is remaindered stock they couldn't shift before with a few quid knocked off.

People get it into their heads when caught up in the frenzy"I must get a cheap TV!" And buy any old crap.

Polaroid TVs are a waste of time, most of them go back with faulty circuit boards.

. Didn't someone get shot on the opening day of an IKEA in Croydon? That is SO South London (sorry RobT)

Croydon is and always will be a massive shit hole, even the tat quotient isn't very high these days so it's one more reason to swerve the place.

The internet at my house seems to be fucked. It works but takes 5 mins just to load an ordinary web page. No chance of uploading any pics or owt. Bloody annoying

Wide awake and looking on Facebook and it seems that a lad I was relatively good mates with at school has died. At least I think he has. People have been posting pictures of him and its not how I remember him, even old photos of when I did know him. Not sure if its someone else with the same group of friends with exactly the same name or my memory being fucked?

TBH, its probably the latter as I was invited to a school reunion the other week but did not seem to know hardly anyone else that was going. I recognised some names but could not place them. There were only about 150 kids in my year and i did know them all at one point.

Odd how my brain can just wipe everything clean. Is this something that happens with middle age?

@greengart:  Been there when Mum went pretty much the same way in July this year. Still there, especially with the festive period approaching.  With time it does get easier to get on with the very important business of living, not as easy as I'd like it to be some days, but you sort of forget the regrets and remember the joy.  The brain is pretty neat like that.  This community helped loads too, I was and still am blown away by the generosity of feeling and very real support offered by so many, most of whom I've only met through words on a beige screen.

In other news, Croydon is indeed shit (lived in New Addington in my late teens), and Mr Boll is forgetting he has a Pony to stare at and does not need the frivolities of the internet to amuse him.

Just spent a couple of hours watching Fast and Furious 6 with my boy. First one I've seen and all I can say is what a shite film and I won't be watching the others in the series!

Posted

First one is the only one worth watching, and even that's become its own cliche

I think I managed about 4.332 minutes of Fast and Furious before I realised what an absolute crock of wank it is.

In fact, I think I'd rather watch Edward Scissorhands consume several ounces of Class A drugs then trim my pubes for me.

From the eBay Tat thread. This has actually made me cross with the state of humanity.

"...FOUND THIS CAR WITH THE RAT LOOK AND HAVE GIVE IT A COAT OF CLEAR LACQUER TO PRESERVE THE LOOK"

Lying cunts. You've been given an immaculate low mileage Golf and immediately set upon it in a frenzy of scene-whore, attention-craving, imagination-deprived buffoonery, to the very extent of unscrewing the front number plate and reattaching it on the piss using the same bolt. And then rotating the badge in the grille through 150 degrees.

I know that when I was at school it was fashionable to behave badly and resist education, but I find it upsetting that we've reached a point where actual stupidity is celebrated.

The second one was OK, simply because they abandoned all pretence at making a serious film and just did a load of intentionally daft chases etc. After that, for some reason, they decided to try and make proper films with credible plots again, and failed miserably obv.
