Do all moderns need a four poster for a basic service?

It's bad enough having to lie on my back to change the oil filter, but the fecking air filter is a total nightmare on a 147 jtd. Must have taken me well over an hour trying to replace the damn thing.

I've spent more time fixing that alfa (the wife's) than keeping the rest of my fleet on the road. Tomorrow I've got the handbrake to look forward to then it's mot time. That's after I put yet another set front tyres on it after wearing the inside shoulder.

The Vel Satis is now using water like it's going out of fashion.  I think the old pile of shit might end up getting bridged.

DRL's if you have a wanky eurobox,on a pissing down dark morning does this now mean you don't need to use headlights?

Posted

I think people don't know. The dash is lit up so people assume that lights are sufficient. That plus everything is automatic

Better than no lights at all!

Agreed but a tiny light at the bottom of a bumper or the corner of a headlight when all that needs to be done is turn the lights on.

Nearly all cars are designed to go on a 2 post lift these days .

We won't be able to put air in the tyres soon without taking it to the garage.

Slowly going from being a very rare Van into a wankermobile

At least he's got rid of the roofrack and bonnet sticker and put the original indicators and Ford bonnet badge back on. Credit where credit's due etc.

The stickerbombing does look gash but he does say it's only until a new wing is fitted.

Looks absolutely fine to me. He's hardly trashing it is he. Lighten up man.

I like it other than the sticker bombing.

Agree entirely, but I've long since given up hope that a significant minority of people will be able to grasp this fact.

My grump is that I bought something, paid to have it delivered by courier which was due today, and popped out for less than 20 minutes as the dog was pestering me to go for a walk. Guess when they try to deliver?

I get back to find a card through the door, and no chance of collecting it until next week. And it's her birthday tomorrow :-( I wouldn't have minded but the very same courier dropped a parcel off in the post box at the gate (ironically when I *was* in) which also needed a signature. How come they can do that sometimes but not others?

Posted

Because all couriers are wankers who make it up as they go along

There's nothing on that mk2 fiesta van that can't be changed easily, reflecting what's been said I also don't like the sticker bombing

Right, I know I'm going to lose AS points for this but I'm in the middle of moving house and I have very little free time between work and my coruse, so can't be bothered climbing under the car. Checked National Tyres' website for an oil and filter change and it was £47.70 for my car, which seems pretty reasonable for Castrol (or maybe Fuchs) fully synthetic. However when I got there I was told it was £60, and that I'd seen an online only offer, but having just checked their site again at no point does it mention this. Is this just a tax on me for being lazy or am I right in feeling slightly mislead?

Did I miss read it but don't he say he wants to change the engine?

Nope, seems a bit dodgy. As Chaseracer says, how can the Interwebz change the oil for you? Does the offer need some voucher printed out or something?

There is a £5 voucher on their website and another in the post which made it £55. I've tried contacting their customer services to see what they have to say about it

Small, lite grump;

Shit me man, this being piss poor and penniless has got to (and will) end soon, it really isn't funny anymore. Today I had to pop to Worcester to see my mate, my Rover 827 has been knocking back fuel like George Best on the beers. I managed to rustle up a £10 and had £5 on my card, brill thinks I, I'll visit the only cash machine that I know of in the local area that dispenses £5 notes and that'll see me with £15 in the car. Of course the only machine that dispenses £5 is "out of order" it has to be, it's the law, broken just when you need that small boost.

No other cash machine dispenses £5 notes so I have to make do with £10 in the car. Coming back from Worcester saw me keeping a keen eye on the guage and praying as I drove onto the motorway, I don't usually hang around but today I had to HGV speeds to keep it sipping fuel.

I managed to make it back with the needle halfway into the red, the fuel light came only because of going down slight inclines in the road. Phew.

By chance I've just booked 2 vehicles in for this at a London centre.  Ã‚£35 for an oil and filter change on a 3 Litre V6 petrol Shogun and £42 for a Peugeot Partner van.  You have to pay online and book a slot a few days in advance but that's the normal way to get a discounted online price for pretty much anything.  And when the total cost is about the same as the parts alone, why bother doing it yourself?  There was even a £5 or £10 money off voucher that I didn't bother with.  No doubt their motivation is to find other work when the vehicle is on site, but you can just say "no thanks".

Posted

This is the American way, they claim to be able to do a change for less than the price of the parts but then try to find other things or sell you dubious oil treatments.

I still do it myself though because I like doing it, I know I put in the correct oil, I don't put dirty marks all over the car and I am a grumpy bastard.

We still have flights,it looks like we don't have a hotel but we are going back to the same place we have been before so should be ok,our friends on the other hand have had to pay another £360 for the hotel they have all ready payed for.

Did you use a credit card? You can get the money back from the bank if you did.

Speaking of crap holidays, PARENTS_DUGONG got robbed on their first evening in Prague. The Czechs have a 'tourist police station' for such things.

4 Realz? Sorry to hear that. I returned from Prague last night having had a thoroughly wonderful time throughout.

And I was prancing around like a twat with a "I'm A Wealthy Westerner" DSLR hanging around my neck the whole time.

Nearest I got to being mugged was 140 CZK for a microwaved sandwich at Letiště Václava. The airports are the real criminals, if you ask me.

A pattern filter and oil from asda means you can do it for less than £30.

I still do it myself though because I don't want a cross-threaded sump plug, an over-tightened oil filter and the completely wrong grade of oil in my sump.
