I have four can openers and very often none of them will work.  There may have been a change in the design of cans.

Also, the ring pulls just come off and a can opener needed to open it.

Even when they work it usually needs to go round half a dozen times.

Angle grinder may be called into use.

It's the price of that that gets in the way.  I have considered one of the 'smooth edge' openers but even at thirteen quid needs long and careful consideration.

I don't use canned stuff much, mainly tomatoes and an average of one can per month.

TBH it looks repairable, it's the handle that has cracked , the spindle bit rotated inside and spread it , make a longer one to give the wife more leverage with her fingers .

It's usually the money you save that you regret rather than the money you spend, within reason.

At the end of last week I decided that I absolutely needed to quit smoking, I was recording voiceovers for work and was getting out of breath just talking, which is ridiculous really.

So on Monday I went to the pharmacy to avail myself of their stop smoking help. They said I can't have patches because of the meds I'm on, so sent me away with a daft little inhilator thing. They prescribed gum too, but I already had some at home so I didn't take it at the time.

Anyway, it is currently Friday afternoon and I haven't had a cigarette since 12:30pm on Monday.

I know this should be a grin, but I have been full of incandescent rage since sometime on Wednesday, so I'm putting it down as a grump.

I've been avoiding using a vape too, because they don't actually solve the addiction problem, if anything they actually make it worse.

So
This morning I have a flat on the Alto (RRNS)
Bum.
Pumped it up as pissing it down with rain & I really didnt want to put the spacesaver on it (see Wanted thread for some Citybug steels)
Got to petrol station about halfway to work - down to 8psi - pumped it up to 34 again
Got to work - still actually looks reasonable.
Anyway - its either a puncture or the valve, either way its a cheap ditchfinder so I might as well just get a new tyre popped on.
Shop around on line for places near work - Usual suspects - KwikFit have stuff in at £80/tyre (155-65-14) Halfords have one in at £45 but if you want same day fitting the charge another £20 (WTF??) then there is a place on the main road - on line, yep, tyre and fitting £47 - that'll do.
I finish at 1700 - cant get out any earlier realistically as Im the lead clinician today.
Phone them - yeah we shut at 1730 - on line offers a fitting appointment at 1715 - right I can be there about 10 past....

Books
Pays
Sits back & relaxes
Phone call at 3pm
Err, yeah, we cant fit a tyre at 1715 - we go home at 1730 - can you come any earlier, I explain about work, location and the hours I work and that no, I simply cant & its not very likely tomorrow will be any better.
Oh well, we cant do it
Right - well if you can refund me
Hang on I'll get the manager
Manager here - of you cant come in, well thats not our problem, you will need to phone head office if you want a refund.
Erm? Why? You are the ones cancelling on me, not head office, why have you got appointments at 1715 if you wont honour that appointment?

Call descended into a slanging match about how I was being unreasonable and it wasnt their fault or responsibility to sort out a refund.

Twats.

I called head office - they said they would refund, but I havent had it yet

One tyre? It wouldn't take that much longer than a quarter of an hour to just honour the appointment would it. The head office should have told them to suck it up and fit the bloody tyre.

Indicators on cars. On those few cars that still have drivers that know how to use them, so many of them now  seem really difficult to see especially the front ones.  I still think the move to white lenses at the front made them less visible.

One more thing to fuck me off.

Possibly and also DRL that do not dim when the indicator is used.

They should  however that's not always the case.

Designs that put the relatively small indicator next to a main beam lamp? WTF?

Talking of lighting, how cheap is this? I've seen cars where the rear position light turns into an indicator. Seen this on a small Jeep SUV.

I've seen some really awful rear indicators lately.

On some sort of Vauxhall SUV thing, I recently saw a tiny blinking orange square hidden in amongst the massive blinding red LED brake lights.

Yeah, great work lads.

It is now varnished and tested ..

It worked well , the Mrs could actually use the opener ... So despite its looks , it succeeded.

But will it last?

And will your wife get splinters?

Given it's girth , the wife found a good grip on it , so it won't slip out of her hands and drop ..

I do love a British summer.

Just had a lightning strike right overhead, made the light fitting in the living room spark and knocked out the Internet.  Now the house smells of burning electrics...

Looks like the lightning strike knackered my router as well, Wifi is now working but all the wired connections are down.

It knocked ours into suspended animation, it froze part of the way through its 'boot up' sequence but switching it off and on at the mains seems to have fixed it.
