Couple of members of the "Travelling community" came down my tiny close yesterday and it's got me rather nervous. They started with the old we'll do your driveway chat (very keen to get on the property to give a quote, they've switched to offering resin, how modern) "Is your Mummy or Daddy in? I want to speak to the organ grinder not the monkey" I presume trying to size me up a bit since I'm clearly in my mid-30s. "Quiet round here isn't it? How long have you lived here?" "Is your neighbour in? Before pounding on their door to ask if they want their back yard clearing and finally "Do you want to sell the van for cash?" I was blunt, but civil, since they know where I live, but perhaps I should've told them where to stick it. Now I'm going to have to keep the van blocked in order to sleep. Brilliant.

I don't want to block our street and it's extremely unlikely I would be able to do that without anyone seeing in any case. Next time someone does it I'll just ring the council parking team and they'll be straight out to issue a ticket. I wonder how much my council charges to get a white 'H' painted across the drive as a deterrent, as well.

Bought a set of Falken winter tyres for the Saab on Friday because we are going to Germany and Switzerland soon. Just been out to wash the car and noticed they've put on three winter tyres and one not winter. Bugger, that's going to be another half day wasted while I get them to sort it out.

Some do it better than others. I had a Discovery 4 and it was impossible to catch it out. It seemed telepathic. A similar age BMW was good, but not quite as quick to react and slightly less incisive. Two random examples

I never really got what was so difficult about dipping your own lights or indeed turning your own wipers on.

I hate pointless tech.

Mine has 'rain sensing' wipers which are so hopeless it effectively mean it doesn't have an intermittent setting. I've got wipers off, slow or fast.

Mrs. has started a war with the neighbouring flat. By putting up a door bell with video capability. We was having tea last night and could hear her dozy son shouting in the hallway  "Cathy! You're invading our privacy! We're contacting the police!!!!"

So the dozy fucks have decided it's recording their closed door and we're sat avidly watching for when she takes her empty gin bottles to the rubbish chute. Of course had they decided to be civilised and ask we'd be quite happy to demonstrate said door bell does fuck all until you press the button. It then transmits a live video to her phone, but doesn't save it. It's an amazon cheap piece of crap with bugger all functionality.

Half expecting claims of well if the invisible man presses the button at the same time I'm coming out you'll be able to see into my flat. Why we're supposed to be interested in knowing she's going to the bin I don't know. Same woman that steals Cathy's plants 'cos it's not allowed to have a plant in case it causes a fire.....

Why are people so daft?  Charging into deep water at those sorts of speed in most vehicles is only going to end one way.

You really do have to question the air intake setup on a lot of moderns too.  We regularly used to get one bit of road by where I used to live flooded to I'd say a bit above knee high, and not one of my crappy old Metros, Saabs, a Mk IV Fiesta, Novas or my dad's Fiat Panda had any bother whatsoever with it...The only one which complained once was the Sierra which required the distributor cap attacked with WD40 on one occasion.

I did have great fun attacking it full rally style in the Skoda Estelle's though...rear engine for the win.

The amount of scenes I've seen with HGVs having issues surprises me too, have they tended to go the same way now?  I'm used to seeing their air intakes on big risers on the back of the cab - though my brain does still tend to think of things like the Ford Cargo as being a few years old...

Applied the parking brake in the Merc earlier and got a load bang and a slack parking brake pedal 

n/s cable has failed, was only replaced 6 months ago 😡will pick up a new genuine one tomorrow

we had fun in the C1,  it went were some 4x4s never go ,

we found a puddle by the site of the old sewage works in Ormskirk , wife was not impressed , son loved it

I had a Peugeot 3008 with it as a courtesy car last year. It worked perfectly and was almost the only thing I liked about the hateful thing.

If they carry on when there are loads of dead vehicles on the side of the road they really are on their own.

I warn on coming traffic of hazards most days of the week. Eg horses on the road, loose animals, children walking or even police. No one takes any notice whatsoever

Or they give you the finger, which is the usual response around here.

That ford is deep enough that there's a clearly visible depth gauge there, which should be plenty warning enough that you should be slowing the hell down.

Vauxhall rain sensors are great. I really miss them.when I drive my wife's astra.

I understand that, but actions like that are part of being involved with driving, which is seriously, and sadly, on the decrease. E.G. sitting in queues for lights or rail crossings with wipers going continuously. Also see auto lights blinding me before waking up that I'm approaching. How hard is it to flick a switch?

The two cunts with the Land Rovers sitting there are raking it in towing them out, they'd probably chase anyone daring to rob them of their loot. Surprised that Aldi Q-whatever died, I'd have expected better from a posh SUV. Must have its snout at ground level.

Many years ago I had a diseasel Citroen CX. Old school tractor motor, no turbo, no electronics and the wonderful Citroen suspension that enabled me to let the old girl lift up her skirts and wade through a flood that had a Ford Fiesta stranded in it with water up the tops of its wheelarches. Compare that to a couple of weeks ago when I had squeaky bum time in my Saab which has its air intake down in the front wing as the water got to about 9-10 inches.

I don't really get this. It is just nicer than repeatedly flicking a switch. It doesn't cause any inconvenience that I can see or contribute to poor driving standards

I disagree I'm afraid. My commute to work is all twist country lanes. The amount of times I have been blinded by cars not dipping until they are head one is considerable. Now I agree that some people are c*NTS and don't dip as consideration, but a vast majority of these cars are with LED headlights so I would say most will have auto dip.

In my experience, the majority of cars still don't have it, whether they have LED lights or not

I do yeah, although it looks like the Council are clamping down on people lining up on the road outside. Twice while I was there a really arsey parking warden came round to chase people off, trying to be Billy Big Bollocks.
