Went to ECP to pick up some brake discs on the way into work. Got to the door 'Cash payments only, cannot process card payments'. Had about £3.94 on me and some bits of fluff. Didn't bother going in.

The last time I picked things up from ECP, they called me on my mobile in the morning to tell me that today was ' Cash only day!', as if it was some kind of celebration.  It was annoying but at least they called ahead.  Just having a sign is much, much more annoying.

Although maybe they could phone another branch whilst you are there and you could pay them by card over the phone.

Anyway I have 2 trivial grumps.

I'm at the end of the 3rd week in my new contract.

I am only the second LTD company contractor they've had in the Manufacturing Engineering team, and the other lived locally.

They are insisting I work until at least 2:30 on Friday.

That's fine.

So this week is my first week that I've been in a b and b for 2 nights and travelled home 2 nights.

On Tuesday and Thursday I left at 3pm and got home by 5pm which was good.

I went to get my timesheet signed before and the hiring manager has asked me to ensure I don't go over 37.5 hours

Fair enough. But that would work for me if I could finish at 12 on Friday.

Part of my issue is I'm an early starter, so on the days that I stay over I'd be here by 7 anyway.

I'm thinking I may as well go home every night. The solution would be to have breakfast on arrival allowing me to leave at 5:30, get to work by 7:00 clock off at 15:00 and get home by 17:00 x 5 days a week. I'd rather do 7:00 to 17:30 4 days a week and not do Friday but that's not acceptable.

My other grump?

Fucking M6

Northbound accident after 20A yesterday afternoon. Google maps detoured me but 68.miles took 1:45

and

FUCKING M6

Southbound accident between 19 and 18 in the middle of the night meant that was totally closed and will be most of the day. Ended up.on.the M6 bypass from 20A the A50 through Cuntford and MoansChapel

Although once back on M6 is was very empty.

Meant my 7:15 target arrival went out 30.mins.

^^ Everything has jumped up in bloody value. Best to stick to buying off here, it's still the early 90's.

The thing is. I kind of want a Lexus IS200 manual. My theory being that my 2.0 straight 6 driving the rear wheels with 150hp or so is adequate but would be nice with a manual box. It seems IS200s are better value for money than equivalent BMWs, and they have a 6 speed manual rather than a 5 speed.

IS200s don't seem to be silly money. At least if I do a search for the whole of the UK. I found a nice one in Bradford for £995, but it's a bit far from Aberdeen to just nip past and have a look!

Fucking systems tool here - I took ages sorting out a mullered script. I'm the first to really look at it, they have an automated device that, of course, has gone tits up so we're stuck. took me bloody hours yesterday - then the main server decided to have a hissy fit...…. or so I thought - Nope - down for maintenance - email list 'should' be up to date!!! Idiotic CUNTS!

Can I recover the fucking modded script? Can I buggery!

I've got a locally stored chunk of stuff here (security setup means we're not supposed to do this so I'd be right up the kaiber) and am now, once again, modding the main script to get it working again.

On top - main DB access -5mths in on the contract - still not a chance! Actual, fucking, usless, dickheaded spunkbubbles. I've lost count of how many times I've explained it's profile related…. still not done.

I've alerted the boss I'm at the point of 'working from home' a hell of a lot in the very near future.

The NE of Scotland is crap for finding cars.

Autotrader search earlier. £2k budget, over 2 litres, manual box. 100 mile radius.

3 pages and 3 pages only, of utter dross. Depressing. Somebody was asking £1800 for a 2005 Saab 9-5 2.3t, not even an aero. Really? Or am I out of touch and 14 year old saabs have jumped in value?

Tell me about it, i've been on the lookout for something local-ish for weeks, keep seeing folk saying they can't move for bargains right now, i'm kinda lost at where they are, it's all overpriced crap.

One really, really confused me the other day. A diesel Astra in Aberdeen... 2006 plate, 160,000 miles, 2 weeks MOT, £1600.

A few weeks back, there were examples with a years MOT and far lower mileage going for the 900-1200 range.

The Aberdeen one sold in 2 hours.

I think they're still in a precarious financial position, so probably need cash to come in over the counter, for important things like paying the staff at the end of the month, rather than it disappearing into the black hole of debt at the bank.

What's cheaper?, getting that removed or a trip to Autoglass courtesy of insurances glass coverage? ;-)

Engineering so yes. If I can. Usually this means I can get 5 days money in 4 days and Friday morning is a bonus.

It's made working out a daily rate for my insurance claim for jury service interesting. And contentious

This.

Today was supposed to be a fairly good day. Work has calmed down and the focus seems to be lesa on me and more on the new website which has failed spectacularly. Also its my birthday.

Today, I was also meant to finish at 4pm (usually finish at 4.30pm) because I had stayed until 5pm a couple of weeks ago. However, someone had a spectacular crash involving a HGV which closed the M5 right by the junction I'm meant to be getting off.

As I left work I fired up the SHAT Nav which diverted me away from the M5 but took me an hour and half to get home. So I still got here at the same normal time had the M5 been clear and I left at 4.30pm. Yeah, trivial but fucking annoying, so many bastard slow drivers not knowing where they are going etc...

The only takeaway that delivers to me sells big bags of pic n mix, this would normally be a grin.

They've only gone and changed the sweets! They're crap now! Friday ruined!

Must be crap motorway week.  Was working in Kunt today (near Brands Hatch to be precise) and waited to leave to head home to the Midlands until after 8pm so I'd miss the usual Friday traffic.

Check my posting time.  Thanks to EVERY motorway or other road I tried to drive on being either shut, down to a single lane, or covered in soul-destroying 50mph cameras, I've only just fucking got home.  It'd have been easier to leave at rush hour time I think!

Posted

I think everyone's trying to use up their roadworks budget for the financial year - should start to calm down a bit from next week.  At least I bloody hope it does - it's costing me a fortune in diesel having to do half a lap of Norfolk every morning to get in to work.

Truly sorry Joshua, they basically had us all cancelled...... and of course it's a free for all trying to get a later trip - but that will still mean missing the ferry deadline....... then it hits munchkins school morning Monday. in hte terms of AS

Trying to re-arrange, but it ain't looking great

Yeah, it's one of those things that you just can't really plan for. I really hope they don't try to screw you on the ferry ticket, that is a real worry. The only upside is that I can keep the car stored securely off-site and it is cheap to do so. I best give it a wash and put it back in storage.

It's there on the drive ready to pounce back into life, poor thing!

Ah the joys of P38 motoring...

Fuel filler flap release button didn't engage and got itself stuck in its slot meaning we cannot open the filler at all. And brother's got 59 miles left in his tank. What's even more brilliant is that his model, from 1997, doesn't contain the elergency release in the boot. The 1998 models do so we'll have to jerry rig something. That is, if we don't repeatedly trigger the alarm.

The heat also meant that the ECU had a complete wobbly and decided to drop the front suspension, refuse to start the engine and generally not co-operate. We have a feeling it's because the compressor's seizing and it's drawing too much current in the heat. This was in a Morrisons' carpark. Yay!

Cue the Beach Boys Fun Fun Fun music on the (probably broken) cassette drive.

Is it like most cars where you can access the sender from under the boot carpet or back seat squab?  If so pull that out and fill tank through hole to get home.
