I no longer drink Port after my Fresher’s week at Uni and it being on offer in the local Sainsbury’s. That was almost exactly 10 years ago and the smell of the stuff makes me feel sick even now...

Take this with a massive pinch of salt because I'm just going off what a man in a brewery told me, but he reckoned a lot of cheap mass produced beers overstate their % vol - I was the regulations allow a very wide tolerance from the advertised number to give smaller producers some leeway, but the big guys doing thousands of gallons per day can save money by advertising a 4% ale but consistently deliver them at the bottom of the tolerance, maybe  nearer 3% to save on materials.

So what we get used to as a normal lager might actually be much weaker.

The Food Labelling Regulations 1996, stipulates the positive/negative tolerance on the figure given.

For a beer up to 5.5%/vol it's plus or minus 0.5%. For a beer over that it's plus or minus 1.0%

To be fair...poor rail adhesion does make it pretty tough on the railway. I think a train slid something like 230m through a signal a little while ago down here.

Dunno what it is about some lagers - I can drink shit like Carling all day and night and feel fresh the next day but stuff like Moretti, Hop House 13, Staropramen and I’m fucking dying even if I only have a few.

Not even strength - other 5%+ lagers than the ones mentioned are fine

Lager is the work of Satan. I don't know how anyone can drink something so unpleasant tasting. I've never also found one that doesn't give me a raging headache within a few mouthfuls.

Would've sent you a PM, given the chance.  Ad hominem attacks are unwelcome here.

Anyway, it's only hidden - you want the opportunity to edit?

The EMT 158 I went to Peterborough on yesterday was wheelspinning quite impressively out of some of the stations.

Not really, thanks I can't be arsed. I'm off out to service the car. It's a lovely day, too nice for getting into online squabbles.

I tried the no alcohol beers twice, the second time was to test that the first was a one off, thumping headache both times. Lesson learnt.

Lager is great! Just take some vodka with it later in the night.

A few days ago the Discovery turned over slowly as I tried starting it first thing. The battery is old but with the charger on the next morning it struck up straight away. I've still got the new one I bought for the diesel c-max back in January I'll fit that.Hmm, terminals are the wrong way round. The positive will fit but not the negative. No problem I can make a new earth lead.Ah this battery is smaller and the positive cable will be resting on the air-con metal pipe. Not good.So block of wood under the battery before clamping it down.Works a treat.

Yesterday morning struggled to turn over and only just started.Bugger the smaller battery obviously doesn't have the cranking amps. After work a brand new battery was purchased at great expense.Old earth lead back on and away we go.Except..........turned over slow again this morning.

Investigate starter motor when time allows then.

Be careful of so called “ banter”, it’s already cost Philip green several million in hush money and maybe a lot more to come ( given that he owns nothing- it’s all in his wife’s name)

I am back in the UK from the USA.  I got home at about 4PM.

Work starts at 8AM.  At least, however the clocks went back so I'm only 4 hours out of whack...

It wasn't meant to be an attack. I was amused by the irony of someone going onto a grumpy old man thread to complain about a grumpy man venting.

I do think that in this day and age that having a grumpy old man thread is sexist. I am offended. It should be called the grumpy person thread.

People who know me well know it is a very bad time to want to contact me!

Same here, worst hangover ever was after a night on Kaliber. Makes you wonder what shite they replace the alcohol with.

Can we change Nando’s name too as it’s not just for Nannas?

Nannas?  Are they the ones that used to knit Shreddies?
