Old Man: I don't mind you fixing things on my car, but it's my car, not yours. I want to do it myself on my own time, I'm not as mechanically inept as you seem to think. It's just annoying to go to fix something and find someone else has randomly come along and done it. Now I've got nothing to do and no sense of achievment. You're my dad ffs, you should know better.

Ask me before you touch it, I've had to tell you several times. I want to fix things myself.

Send him my way, i have a list he can complete

I have waited for a month to see the frigging doctor and now they have cancelled my appointment tomorrow.  They won't even give me another appointment - I have to ring and beg for one in the morning.

Your GP practice (a private NHS contractor, and separate legal entity, of which you are a client) will have a process for dealing with formal complaints.

Are we heading into THAT time of the year?  If so, a polite request:

I normally take my traditional cheese grater head forum holiday around now.

I would like this year to be better than last year.

Ill.

Was in serious pain begining of the week (even with the Fentanyl) and by Tuesday night, could take it no longer. So, I 'double dosed' and took Morphine as well. Slept pretty much from then until this morning, only waking when the dogs woke me cos they needed a wee.

It is such a stupid thing to do! One of these days I'm going to wake up to an almighty bollocking from Saint Peter or the Big Man himself! Or, probably more likely, the Devil or one of his/her accolites :)

Today I feel like I have put on 30 stone overnight and my left arm is not co-operating (or my left leg, but that's normal) but at least the pain is manageable!

A double dose of Fento, & morphine!!!

I'm surprised you're here to type that..

Ease off chap, whatever the circ's.

My experience is it's vans that dazzle, because their lights are so high up. Especially that big Citroen one.

My fear with Dart Charge is I've got a lease car, registered to a company. I have no idea if there's some extortionate admin charge for forwarding on a letter that says I have to pay a fine, even if the fine is toss.

I've only used the crossing once since it all changed. Someone told me the cameras can't read import plates. Given they only send a warning first time, I chanced my arm. They can read import plates. I paid my £2.50, all was well. If it's your first crossing, and you're not in a lease car, frankly I reckon this is the least complicated option!

Night driving: a cheap pair of yellow-tinted cycling spectacles from Decathlon have transformed this for me.

You really need a variety of different colours to be prepared for differing light conditions:

Probably worth looking out for sunnies with a light blue tint, should work best at blocking the wavelength of HID or LED headlamp nonsense designed more toward bedazzlement than function. I've noticed suchlike Zeiss and Rodenstock lenses marketed for night driving, probably just a flash of tint rather than anything special, they were Nazi collaborators after all, wait for Xmas and save the blue wrappers from your Quality Street.

Having done nothing for a couple of days, I had jobs to do (and no desire to do them....) and one of them was wash, dry and put away the Mazda for the winter. It is, believe it or not, a lovely day here, so I did the washing thing then went and got the BGD out of the garage so I could put the Mazda away. It has to go right into the opposite side corner or I can't get BGD in as well.

Of course, I backed it into the wall! Great big scuff on the back bumper which has proper pissed me off.

To be honest, not sure why I bother 'cos I got BG out and it was filthy. Absolutely covered in snail trails and shit and poop from some flying rodent (bats?) and it looked an absolute state. I have sort of covered the Mazda as well but left it loose so it can rid itself of any moisture before I take the battery off and cover it properly.

washed BG as well, fook me it's a BIG sod when you are knackered!

Dickheads that try to knock you down on the cost of postage, the post office charge what they charge, I haven't tried haggling with the sour faced old trout on the desk but feel free to do it on my behalf and let me know if you are successful otherwise fuck off and pay the extra £1 you are trying to haggle off me, except it's now £20 as you have pissed me off so I have upped the price.

Is there some sort of government breeding scheme for fuckwits that I am unaware of?

Maybe organise joint car fixing missions, and the two of you can do stuff together? Old Man doesn't seem a bad chap, and they're not around forever. Ask me how I know...

Just logged into Dart Charge and it's debited me for one crossing, which is right - the M25 east was so knackered in the evening I went the other way past Heathrow.

However it's still frustrating that they can't tell you what crossings you've made within 48 hours, but they'll fine you less than 48 hours later if you don't pay.

The lady I spoke to was lovely, but my concern was more to do with my lease company potentially charging me an admin fee (as some hire companies do) if they get a letter as a result of me being a naughty boy in their car.

Still, it seems to be working now.

This. My parents are getting on a bit (both 70 now, I'm not even 30 yet... youngest of 4), and I always try to go to their farm to do jobs on the car. Partly because they have nice big barns for me to work in (I just have a street on a hill) and partly because my dad is really helpful / has loads of obscure, even home-made tools, and partly because it's just nice to see them.

He's not helping me though, he's just doing things behind my back with no consultation. I take exception to that. Whenever I ask for help he just does everything and won't let me do anything.

I've had a run of higher-end vehicles recently through work. Today that run ended with a PINK Fiat 500 :(

May I?

It’s time to move out.

I moved out early. 17. I roughed it with friends, rented and then bought. It has given me 20/20 vision of the difficulties of being a parent. I became a Dad at 21, and it all suddenly clicked. Every single parent does their best - almost without fail.

If you don’t think your old man fits into that category; why live under the same roof? Spread your wings and see for yourself.

You may think I’m a humpbacked dog turd for saying this, but I’m pretty sure it’ll all make sense one day.

Good luck man.

Sometimes personalities don't click.  I've had a rough relationship with my Dad, for various reasons, over the years.  We both have our faults, we both try to be good people but we butt heads too often because of who we are.  From reading Ghosty's posts I think this is more the case than either one of them actually being a twat and I can empathise with Ghosty's situation.  I can't abide when I'm steamrollered with a job, or worse it's done behind my back!  I'd far rather work with someone and them be patient as I learn and my Dad, it seems, would far rather the job just be done so I don't need to worry about it.

Relationships are tricky and when it's your own family, even more so.  Moving out to go it alone isn't as easy at is used to be either.  I did it when I was 18 because of personality clash more than anything else and while I don't regret it, logically and practically it was a pretty stupid thing to do because I effectively ended up homeless and jobless as a result and only really got back on my feet through sheer luck.

In Ghosty's position the best he can really hope for is that he has the financial security to move somewhere of his own or that he and his Dad can resolve their differences and work with one another, rather than against.  Until that happens, the situation is likely to continue.

Throttle cable snapped in the van today :(

Had to do a bit of bodgery to get home, hand throttle and manual transmission was interesting*

post-18019-0-57926700-1509040095_thumb.jpg

Bit of electrical cable, a bungie, and a screwdriver got me home.

if it bothers you so much why do you leave the keys where they can be found? no key = no entry = no fixy

and as you seem to be working ZERO hour at the mo i would think FREE fixes would be a good thing regardless of any dented pride- i wish my dad was still alive to fix things i didn't ask for!
