As far as I know the Granada was the first car to have this feature, beating the Merc  S124 by a good year or so. Unless of course someone knows of some obscure Septic or Jap thing that came before.

Fantastic news on the cooling system blockage; rare that such a thing is something to celebrate. Looks absolutely magnificent, too. 

Genuinely frightens me to to imagine myself fiddling with the buttons in one on display at the now defunct Westwood and Clark of Clacton when I was 8. I'll have to (gently) press the buttons on yours at Shotley!

you should be able to close the windows after taking the key out if you have drivers door open

Rover 800 fastback also had it, but was a year or so after the Mk3 Granny.

This is great stuff. Well done Trig! I think you should be able to sell it for more than it owes you, easily.

As this morning is the 1st of the month and amazingly the weather is decent I decided to tax the Granada and take it for its 1st proper drive, 30 minutes I had my first FTP. ?

FML. So everything was going well, really well in fact and I was throughly enjoying  the wafting about and comfort until I joined the A14 and started going over the Orwell Bridge, I noticed the cars behind were getting harder and harder to see though smoke, I did start to worry that the car may have been on fire! I also noticed that the speedo was playing silly buggers. I managed to come off at the next turning and into a layby, it seems the autobox has dropped its contents all over the floor and over the underside. ?

I'd only been in the layby 2 minutes when this Cossie powered one randomly pulled in to see if I was OK! 

It sounded the nuts when he pulled away! 

Dramarama, so after a Facebook SOS call a mate turned up with his new trailer and for £35 gave me a lift back home. 

So that's another job to do then, apparently its a really common problem with these when they have been parked up where a seal between the box and torque converter goes. Hopefully it won't be a too big a job to fix.

Yep looks like the torque converter seal has dried up and cryed enough.

The only breakdown my Granada gave me was the same thing,i was on my way from Kent to Cornwall when it gave up thirty miles west of Stone Henge and had to be recovered by a outfit called Cuss Car Care on the back of a really tired old Ford Cargo.

It's a simple enough job on a four post ramp as obviously the gearbox has to come out and they are quite heavy.

On my four cylinder one i took the engine out instead (as i needed to change the cam shaft anyway,they pass out the back of the cylinder head only) and did the converter seal with the gearbox still in situ.

It went on ours many moons ago - ours was just a drip but it was annoying.

Thanks, I really don't fancy having to try and drop this box so asked a mate if he could do it at the garage he works at as a little cash job, he's done a few of them and done the one in his Mk2 Granada a few times too and knew exactly what the problem was and having access to a lift and tranny jack meant he was ideal, he said he'd do it for £40 if I got the parts! Obviously I'll give him more than that so this morning I dropped a litre a ATF into the box and drove it to his garage without any dramas and got the new seal ordered up. 

Hopefully I should be back on the road again!

This is a cool car and surprising how well it has taken the years. Still looks relatively modern in my eyes.

Lovely seeing this big ol' bus coming back to life; hopefully with its storage-related quirks solved you'll have a cracking bit of Ford luxury to waft around in.

My uncle ran a Mk3 Scorpio in the early 90s; I was deeply impressed by futuristic gadgets like the trip computer and small courtesy lamps built into the doors.

He offered it to me, free, in about 2007 - but unfortunately by this stage it had sat outside under a tarp for the best part of ten years and the bodywork had rusted right through in several places (A-pillars, roof). With pancake-flat tyres and the exhaust system resting on the tarmac, even I could see it would be a resurrection well beyond me, technically and economically. I believe it ended its days on the oval. Exactly the same thing happened with his Mk2 Ghia X about a decade before...

 

Anyway, I was driving through Ballyclare last night and noticed that this Granada 2.8 is still in the showroom window (my pic taken nearly two years ago).

A bit of Google Maps sleuthing shows it's been on their premises for at least four years now. DVLA says untaxed since 2015.

Dunno if either their pricing is somewhat optimistic, or the damn place is simply never open for anyone to buy it!

The white placcy wheeltrims maybe aren't helping, but still - WOULD.

I've been to see my mate today who's made a start at fixing my leaky box. 

Apparently its all came apart without drama, whilst I was there dropping off the new seal they pulled the torque converter out and was removing the leaking seal. 

And I left them fitting it all back together, he says it's just waiting for a new oil filter as he had to remove the old one to get the exhaust studs and it will be be ready for Monday! Happy days!

Look what I collected this afternoon! 

Not much to report other than its now driving spot on, I even got chance to check the cruise control for the first time and that still works. I'm well chuffed!

Now firstly apologies if this post come across as a little self absorbed or self centered, I'm always a bit worried that people might think i'm a bit of show off twat when i do these kinds of posts but it's really not the case, I just like taking photos and sharing them as that's what i like to see on here, lots of photos of peoples cars (the older the better though!  ) and when you've done all the work getting them back on the road it's nice to show them off a bit isn't it!

So with that in mind i popped across the road to the village hall and took some photos today of both my cars, here's the Scorpio.

There is a small tear in that rear seat where a mouse ate it but a piece of black leather of ebay tucked under it make sit look better until a find a replacement seat base.

The headlining isn't perfect but it's presentable now.

I don't think the arches came out too bad in the end.

The 2.9i is now running really nicely
