Its the fact its modified, your typical mainstream insurers like Churchill, Direct Line etc will flat out refuse to cover most mods, whereas specialists like where I work will actually often offer a reduced premium with modifications.

I can confirm that. I part exchanged my Saab 9-5 2.3 Turbo for 5 year younger 9-5 Aero HOT with a bigger turbo, intercooler, injectors and throttle bodies, stainless exhaust, remapped ECU, lightweight wheels, larger brake discs and 6 pot calipers, suspension changes, and upgraded stereo.

Was £50 a year LESS to insure (with Sheilas Wheels) than my standard 9-5.

It's on the govt. tax/MOT checker thing.

Look at this sexy little bastard. Relatively high miles, no MOT and advisories for rust on the last one.

Vauxhall Astra F | eBay

£371/best offer, Liverpool.

*Just realised it's a diesel. I think it's probs too late to be an Isuzu, so possibly the GM 'slow-blow' lump. In fact, weren't all the 'TDS' ones GM engines?

I thought the Isuzu ones had a sexy* TURBO INTERCOOLER badge on the back (my Dad's did) but that might be a pre-facelift thing only.

Yes that's a Jodie Comer among motor cars, sexy AF.

Isn't the starter packing up the first sign of DMF failure on these?

Yep, happened on Outlaw_Junior's one.

My fault obviously

This went for a smidge over £600 last night. I was mildly interested but missed the auction end as I was looking at summat else.
I think £600 is a snip - I'm a bit rankled but, to be honest, I don't really need another estate here without swapping the 940 (and I do like that)

Colour change, tinted windows, removal of rear seats

It's registered as green so presumably that has already been declared.  Tinted windows are presumably just film which should be easy enough to rip off.

Colour is still a modification whether DVLA have been notified or not. My T5 says green on the V5 but it’s still not the colour it left the factory as, thus it’s modified, same with my old Transit.

C5 which the lady says has a clutch slipping - £600 starting bid, no LHM model
Nope - hang on - she's literally just updated the listing clutch is now fucked and the starting price is down to £450. Prior to this update I asked her about service history etc and she said there is a part history and cambelt done two years ago.

I can't believe that any underwriter would refuse to cover a car solely because it's a different colour to what it was when it left the factory.  That just makes zero sense.

I’m only stating facts. Try ring somewhere like Direct Line and ask for a quote on a car then tell them you’ve had it painted a different colour.

Plenty will decline on the fact it’s modified. Happens all the time.

It’s not necessarily what has been done, it’s the fact it’s got a modification.

Wonder if it was this poor bastard you spoke to  - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=10&t=2022183 - had a non fault claim and AXA voided his policy due to PPF applied. His subsequent quotes were upwards of £10k due to having a policy previously cancelled

Eventually went to the Ombudsman who sided with the insurer. He appealed the decision and won - almost 1 year later.

Mental isn’t it. From my shit memory of speaking to multiple clients all day every day, I seem to recall this being someone who had just had their car PPF’d themselves and called to declare it, so not the situation on PH but goes to show it’s happening more than once.

People don’t seem to grasp the whole modified thing, regularly see people refer to things like paintwork how @wuvvum did above, whether things are recorded with places like DVLA means naff all, the definition of modification is to change something. If a car is BRG from the factory and you have it painted lime green it’s still non standard paintwork, you in that scenario wouldn’t even need to notify DVLA but it’d still invalidate your insurance if you don’t declare it, and there are loads of insurers that the second you mention it would end the call.
