DodgeRover Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 Years ago I had a Jensen Interceptor that the previous owner had put one commercial tyre on the back. I thought I would be clever and fit another to make them a matched pair. What a mistake the handling was bordering on dangerous and they were soon binned for the correct car type tyres. Commercial tyres have much stiffer sidewalls and will not work well even on a 4x4.From experience with our lexus I can't tell the difference, it has rain max commercials on it, much better in the wet too than the well worn mud and slush ones.I would think a modern 4x4 is heavier than a medium sized van with a light load? When you say "correct", what does that mean exactly? It's for the HR-V, which isn't exactly a Range Rover V8 Supercharged - in fact it probably has a lower top speed than the Maxus, which is on commercial tyres.Look at what is specified as standard - usually written on the car somewhere or in the handbook and make sure they are the same or greater rating.

AMC Rebel Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 In further news..........being forced to pick up this potential deathtrap on Monday. If you see a gigantic fireball between Reading and Maidstone, it'll probably be me.............one thing did occur to me.......if a passenger aircraft displayed the same problem [systems power failure, with no cause found] would chief tech bloke at Boeing just hand the pilot back the keys with, "fuck knows mate, we couldn't find anything wrong with it".................I know this is not helpful - but have you ever read a plane maintenance log? They are full of “no fault found” After that 777 crash landed at Heathrow they linked a number of similar unexplained power loss incidents to it. Same thing with the rudder faults on 737s. As for the Skoda it sounded very like when the earth points disintegrated on my previous Jag. All the fancy diagnostics and fault codes couldn’t cope with the simple problem of an intermittent earth so it kept throwing all sorts of alarming fault codes. Needless to say the dealer had to have several goes before they figured it out. With that said the Jag wasn’t new or on a pcp or warranted. Hopefully they have actually found the fault this time.

cros Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 How do you go about buying a new car? A relative wants one and wants me to accompany her to the dealers. She has the money, no trade in, and wants a small bottom of the heap motor with no extras. I suggested a shittigo, but can't even get a cash price for one. I've been here before, went with my old man when he was buying a new 208. It didn't go well as I was so appalled at the salesmans bullying of an 86 year old that I told him it was fucking disgraceful in those exact words. Father opted not to hear any more from me and went on to have his leg lifted royally. He agreed to a bigger engine, special paint treatment and all the other bullshit. So this time I'm a bit better prepared, but any tips plus suggestions of alternative cars gratefully received. PS, Naturally I wouldn't advise a new car, but that's what she wants.
Noel Tidybeard Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 Surely a Vivaro/Trafic owner can answer this question? Looking at the lower pair of rear lights, the bottom part is obviously a fog light on the offside and a reversing light on the nearside. But what about the top clear part on both sides? Is this something to provide extra illumination when unloading perhaps? i thought the top bits are the reverse lights and the bottom is a blank

Almost always the best deal is the ones that are finance packages. Take out the finance package to get the good deal. Then pay off whole. The sales people of course don't like you doing it as they don't get their comission. By then it doesn't matter though. You might find a few 67-plate pre reg cars hanging around too for good prices. VAG especially had to pre-register a load as they were struggling to get stuff through the WTLP regs that had to conform to for being 18-plate registered. mrbenn and cros 2

Take finance, get as much thrown in via incentives as possible then pay off the finance in full within a fortnight.
scdan4 Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 Bike security. I need a ground anchor and decent chain. What is the decent, acceptable price point stuff does anyone know? ETAAnswered my own question.oxford brand sold secure on the way. ( its cheaper than I remember)
mat_the_cat Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 i thought the top bits are the reverse lights and the bottom is a blank So two reversing lights and only one fog? I guess that's better than one of each - reversing in the dark is a pain with only one light. But why not make the nearside lower lens red, for symmetry and LHD parts sharing?
Richard Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 The owners' manuals all show two bulb holders with only the bottom one occupied. https://www.vauxhall.co.uk/owners/owners-manuals/vivaro.html
taxi paul Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 So I have read up about this but someone may have a good answer. My folding camper canvas is looking a bit tired. It is waterproof so can't really be dyed. It can apparently be sprayed with acrylic paint for canvas. Anyone ever done this and is it worth it or total pain in the arse.

I took a three month and then added two weeks on the end to cover Meg until her test date. After both of my daughters passed then I went with Admiral as they were not only the cheapest but after Chuck had a bump they were great. Another point, when Meg passed it was £1000 for a policy in her name for her, me and the Mrs.The same car with a policy in the Mrs name with the same three people was £1600. cros Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 where is she in the country ? ifshe is in the east midlands and not averse to a Vauxhall she could be well advised for you to take her on a little trip to Billinghay - where the Twells family still have full control of the dealership bearign their names ... and have just extended the showroom to fit a bigger trophy cabinet ... I'm not a million miles from Billinghay and know of the garage. However my relative is from Surrey so I'm phoning round garages in her area. I think she may be best to make her choice based on the quality of the garage rather than the actual car. She is indifferent to cars anyway and thinks that a USB socket is used to remove the wheelnuts. Nicola H 1

catsinthewelder Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 Anyone know a shite friendly garage between Inverness and Beauly? Phoned the Mrs to see if she was coming home tomorrow and 405 has lost all of it's brake fluid. FFS
320touring Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 Got a call off the good lady today. "The wipers on the Audi were going even though it was parked up, not running and locked" I returned home after a few hours, took the key and went out to take the battery off and put it on charge.. On instinct, I tried it. Started off the key. All this time, the Hazard light switch was illuminated - regardless of ignition on/off and lights on/off .. Any ideas?

artdjones Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 How does the numbering system for multirib fan belts work? I may need a shorter one to remove the ac... The first figure is the belt length in mm.,the second is the number of ribs.So 1100pk6 is 1100mm long with 6 ribs.
Jazoli Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 How does the numbering system for multirib fan belts work? I may need a shorter one to remove the ac... its the number of ribs i.e 4 ribs is 4pk followed by the length in mm. edit, beaten to it, use the old cut belt as a guide and disengage the tensioner, then wrap the belt around the pulleys following the correct run, mark the length with a sharpie and there is the belt length you need.

320touring Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 Right, some assistance with the spark carrying pixies plz The Oxford has a full compliment of dials - Oil pressure, coolant temp, ammeter and fuel gauge. At the moment, only the fuel gauge and oil pressure work (as in reads a value).. I'm trying to work out where the sender's that inform these gauges are on the 1500 B series fitted. Any advice on location of the following would be appreciated: Oil pressure sensorFeed for ammeter (the gauge always just wobbles about the 0, never reading + or - )Coolant temp sensor - gauge always raads cold. Can't see a sensor on rad/near thermostat or in any of the pipework) Cheers awfully old beans
