D Spares & Tyres Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 is the old bit of exhaust with the cat box in worth anything other than .002p of scrap rusty steel ?Yes. What is it off? Picture?
SiC Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Do Shiply quoters see other prices that have been offered? I currently keep getting revised quotes and they are getting lower and lower. If anything makes me wonder why they are so low. For a Newcastle to Bristol run the lowest so far, just in is £236. That's for a 280 mile trip one way. How can they even make a profit at that?
somewhatfoolish Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 The fleabay effect? There's enough idiots out there with the idea that cutting their own throat is a business plan, perhaps car haulage has the same. Perhaps there are car haulers running on veg. Kiltox and SiC 2
cort16 Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 The guy who bought my maestro had it shipped from Ayrshire to Essex for 230 quid using uship. The guy was dropping a car in Glasgow so I guess he thought 230 quid was better than an empty trailer. SiC 1

DSdriver Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Prompted by the SAAB write-off thread; when your bolide is wrecked by some miscreant, if you've got alternative transport(i.e. a drive full of chod) will insurers bung you some cash in lieu of giving you a hire car that you won't need?Whenever they ask me about including car hire on a policy I always say no and point out that we have four cars anyway. Sometimes they say well its included whether you like it or not. As I have probably chosen them because they are the cheapest on offer I can't really complain.
scdan4 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 You have a duty in law to reasonably minimise your losses, so if you have other equivalent transport that’s not in use and have a hire car then you do run the risk of being asked to pay for it. Ultimately by a judge. You’d be unlucky though. And it needs to be equivalent. So if the spare cars are too small / too chavvy / can’t tow if needed / etc then you’ll be fine. As much as you ever will be dealing with Insurance.
Christine Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 This here Astra mk3 1600 16 v I've got .. The head bolts , I noticed they're making life difficult .. what are they ? Torx ? I suppose I've gotta buy some new sockets as well as a head gasket set now .?
Eddie Honda Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 if you've got alternative transport(i.e. a drive full of chod) will insurers bung you some cash in lieu of giving you a hire car that you won't need? Yeah, I've refused a hire car before (other party at fault, their insurers) and took the loss-of-use dosh. I have alternative chod to use (well sometimes), but what if I want to use THE car that got fucked, then I can't, can I? It may not be as much as the equivalent daily rate on a hire car, but I've never heard them grumble too much about paying it as part of the settlement. somewhatfoolish 1
catsinthewelder Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 I'm after a trailer at the moment, probably about 4'x3'. I would be planning on making a removable cage top for it to take the dogs out without filling the 405 with dog hair. It would also get used for collecting ton bags of sand when I'm laying patios as it's a right faff getting them in the van and clearing the mess up afterwards. Would something like this or this carry a ton a short distance if I bought decent tyres? Being as I've got a boring post 97 licence I'm limited to 3.5T train weight on the vehicles MAM so would be towing with the 405 rather than the Discovery.
Tickman Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Unbraked trailers are limited to 750kg towing capacity including the weight of the trailer so they might be a bit tight with carrying a Bulk bag (as that is what the ton bags are called as they don't usually have a ton in them. I have used one like the first to carry well over a ton before now and they tow great, it would do everything you need but will be very bouncy with no weight so the dogs might not like it.

Can you not get a boot liner for the 405?
catsinthewelder Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Ah bother, perhaps a little unbraked trailer for the dogs and cement mixer would be best. If I'm organized I can usually get the sand delivered.
catsinthewelder Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 The reason for a dog trailer was mostly decided on when we went on holiday with 3 kids and 2 dogs in the Astra. I don't really want to be towing a ton up the motorway.
Kiltox Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Is my Relay supposed to have a windscreen mount DAB aerial? The reception is shit so I’m wondering if someone has fitted it instead of a roof aerial when fitting the huge roof rack?
Simonsays Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 I've been told that the bleed nipples on the calipers of my Streetkak are buggered. Anything to be done or am I looking at replacing the calipers? The brake fluid is probably well past its shelf life

The brake fluid is probably well past its shelf life If you can get the bleed nipples out its a 5 minute job to fit new ones, if not you can fit banjo bolts with bleed nipples, or last resort fit refurbed calipers, they should be dirt cheap.
Kiltox Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Soak them in penetrating oil for years and get them out then replace them Smack a socket over them to get them out

Simonsays Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Thanks for all of the advice folks. I'll have a bash at replacing them when the weather improves a wee bit
D Spares & Tyres Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Nissan Teranno 2.7 turbo diesel Very underpowered. Have replaced fuel filter and the fine filter under the banjo. Replaced fuel lines in case of any leaks. It generally runs at around 80 degrees but with a trailer on, going up a hill it really struggles to the point where only first gear will do. When it hits around 90 degrees it loses pretty much all power. Had to drop it into low box last time. Fuel consumption is fine, as is oil. It doesn't smoke at all. Any ideas? I tried disconnecting the MAF but it made no difference.

Negative Creep Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 What is this for? I just found it lying in my scuttle panel trim, and am a bit paranoid it looks like the type of tool you'd use to pry a door open with
RayMK Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Looks like a trim/door card removal tool to me - it levers those nasty plastic fixing studs apart. chaseracer and xtriple 2
