Timewaster Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I don't know about the Hiace but a Toyota badged dispatch does actually exist. Imagine that. You think you are buying Toyota quality but soon realise you bought a bloody Peugeot. The only way it could be worse would be if you opted for a quality small van from Mercedes benz.. oh SHIT! mercrocker, mat_the_cat and AnthonyG 3

drum Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Just go to an exhaust centre and get the whole lot done. Doing it a bit at a time is never worth the hassle.I used to do this but got fed up arguing with kwikfit types who always want to change more than is needed. I started buying pieces separately and fitting them myself and haven't been to an exhaust centre for about eight years. More recently I have been welding repairs to my exhausts and, for the 109, I made the entire thing out of offcuts two years ago. For some, that might be like making a whole ciggie out of fag ends but I prefer to fix than replace if possible. £300 for a new alfa exhaust system? No thanks. catsinthewelder and forddeliveryboy 2
TimothyClaypole Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Did anyone do Technical Drawing at school? (I did woodwork). I need to draw some circles on the computer. I'm making my own version of this type of thing but am missing something as to how to draw the shelf parts, I've been trying circles overlaid onto the size of the base 205mm x 205mm but they look too wide to fit the number needed onto that area?
explosive-cabbage Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Is there any point in me appealing a Leeds City Council Penalty Charge Notice? Mrs_KJ was over the moon this afternoon when I took her into Leeds to stock up on her favourite grub. We parked in the pay'n'display, and did the shopping. Predictably she filled 10 or 12 bags with her fancy Thai rice, jars, tins an' ting. I left her at the door with the bags and fetched the motor from the pay'n'display a few streets away. I stuck the hazards on and pulled up in the (empty) taxi rank and opened the door. I saw the warden trotting (not walking) up, I thought he'd have a quick word and ask us to move on, but as we slung things in the car, he was walking around it, tapping the details into his gadget and was mega defensive of what he was doing. If you know me, you'll know was polite to him.The engine was running FFS, the doors were open, it was clear what we were up to.Yes, I maybe shouldn't have taken the car into the taxi parking box, but it was that, or double-yellows, or 'double-park' in the road, and I dare say most of you would do the same. It seemed the safest option, was inconveniencing nobody, and there wasn't a taxi in sight (quiet Sunday afternoon). We'll all agree he was flipping keen, but was he right to ticket me? If so, tell me to stop whingeing, STFU, and pay the £35/£70 charge.(Contravention: 45 - Parked on a taxi rank)I didn't leave it unoccupied - it was still running. Did I "park"? Kept this one quiet bro! Just return their letter back to the address they sent it from with a note attached saying somthing along the lines of 'this person no longer lives at this address', and sign it with your own signature just for the grins. Then see what happens. Tends to work for the DOOVLA, propper head-fucks them.
saucedoctor Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Just had a mate call round to see me. She's been quoted £780 fitted for a PAS pump on a mark 1 petrol Focus. Given that I can get a new one for £140, is it as much of a ballache to do as the remaining £640 suggests?

I was reasonably good at tech drawing but that thing would have brought me out in a sweat. Have you tried Sketchup? Free 3D CAD software. I use it for various projects, including designing and building an entire bespoke kitchen from scratch. Honey Badger Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 How do you know if the torque converter on an auto box is going? The MPG on my coupe has dropped, it's hesitating changing gears but not actually slipping before engaging and there's almost a whispering noise that's rises and falls with engine speed but not road speed. Any of this sound familiar to the more experienced members on here?

Then see what happens. Tends to work for the DOOVLA, propper head-fucks them. Yeah definitely don't do that. Go on Pepipoo.com forums and ask them, they are experts at this shit. Absolutely do not say you don't live there or it'll bounce round the houses until it goes to court and they find you guilty in absence of failing to pay a huge fine, plus costs and the bailiffs turn up wanting a lot of money from you. The bailiffs will find you easily of course seeing as your name will be on the bills, council tax etc etc.I've seen it happen plenty of times and that was for genuine cases where someone hadn't updated the V5, sometimes the owner was lucky enough to be allowed to pay the original top fine, but usually they ended paying circa £800. Obviously it'll be clear to them you lied about not knowing the owner, so they would go at you both barrels for making fraudulent representations

If that is ok, check the stall speed, ie the max engine speed with the car held stationary on the brakes (Careful, don't do it for too long!)Does it have a lock-up mode?, is that working normally?Sometimes the opinion of a specialist is the way to go. TimothyClaypole Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 This is my version of a straight one crafted with my fair hands, a hacksaw, file and some polish(the plastics are by my laser) : These are 33mm holes, the other standard is 28mm. So it's to fit at the side of a straight rack to make it into a right angle then you can stick another straight next to it and "surround" your working area with your paints etc. The brush holes are stupid as people keep them separate anyway, gimmick, same as the small holes for standing the smaller bottles upside down... The base is 205mm, the main shelves are 70mm and the top one is 50mm. Here's £136.00 of paint... another £213 for the rest of the set... Sloth in a bowl and brickwall 2
wuvvum Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 How does a wastegate work on a turbocharged petrol engine? Is it closed most of the time and opened by the little pushrod thingy when the boost reaches a certain level, or is it open in its natural state and closed off by the pushrod once the turbo starts to blow?
Fat_Pirate Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Wastegate is closed until boost reaches the specified limit. Sigmund Fraud and saucedoctor 2
meggersdog Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Bent a key in a tailgate lock the other day.Put the key in a vice to straighten it and the thing started to split apart.Didn't know it was chipped so went to a locksmith to have a new key cut and coded to the old one.Whilst I'm there another key was being coded then recoded again after mine.No problem with the key but I had my MOT smart card in my pocket and now it doesn't work.My question is : Anybody else had a card,of any sort, wiped while having a key coded ?

TimothyClaypole Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 That's much better. If you can give me the positions and sizes of the vertical posts I'll draw it for you tomorrow night. Are you trying to fit into any particular space or will the 360mm of the production item work? In theory to fit to the one I've made it needs to be 205mm x 205mm? As that's the width of my rack in that photo. So the posts would probably come in different places on the base.
wuvvum Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Wastegate is closed until boost reaches the specified limit. That's what I thought. The S40 still isn't boosting. Tried replacing the solenoid, but to no avail. Someone on one of the Volvo fora suggested it could be due to the wastegate actuator arm becoming worn and the hole at the end of the arm becoming oval - which has happened on my car, but this means that if anything the arm is exerting less pressure on the wastegate - so couldn't be having any adverse effect on the boost. Unless I'm missing something???

wuvvum Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 I suppose I could remove the actuator arm from the wastegate temporarily and see if that makes any difference. Will give it a try in the morning.
TimothyClaypole Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Do they attach or merely sit next to each other? Just "loose" on your desk. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Paint-Bottle-Rack-Tamiya-Gunze-GW-hex-type-paints-/290616262206?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item43aa143e3e A nice £5000 there... for something that I think is poorly designed as you can't get to half the paint once it's full.

willswitchengage Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Landlords are forbidden for profiting from reselling utility bills to residential tenants, yes. Does this include Internet? landlord has just taken on paying for it from one of my flatmates, and it charging us £60!!!1 pcm which is mental for a basic Virgin package. ADVICE PLZ
dave21478 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Tell him the internet is a fad that will never catch on and you dont want to waste money on it and get him to cancel it. Then sign up the package of your choice in your own name.
Pillock Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Download shitloads of the latest films, and then make some detailed threats about exploding some important American landmarks. The person paying the bill is responsible for the information passing through, so he should be keeping detailed records of hardware addresses using the wireless router he's provided. As Virgin equipment doesn't let you do this, he can't. Hence, he is responsible for talking to either the FBI or the MPAA, whichever knocks first. mat_the_cat, brickwall and mercrocker 3
