One of the women at work couldn't get her car started earlier when she finished so another woman came and got me, I checked it over and then looked at the fuel gauge the plonker had that little fuel in the tank and was on an incline so the pump couldn't draw any up, a can of fuel she was sorted

If the little place wasn't in france it'd be better. If I could learn languages, I keep trying & failing.

It’s funny my French is a million times better after having to speak if for even a week. Learning at home is virtually pointless and forget tense etc just learn words for things and look sorry

There are many, many pros and cons of France - make sure you are fully aware of them! Happy to discuss it over the phone if you wish.

Saabnut - typed in France!

OH’s parents did 25 years, I’m a total Francophile and just love the priorities applied to life in rural France.

Will definitely ask questions too.

Bloody hell, I dream of retiring to France. Go in with your eyes open, as Saabnut says, but if you can deal with the bureaucracy the quality of life is great.

Let's hope the clusterfuck that must not be named is resolved by the time I reach that age so that I might be allowed to.

I lived there for two years when I was younger, I'm well aware of the frustrations and there's a lot about Britain that I'd miss (the live music scene, mostly) but it's a wonderful place to live.

I was an English teacher: you can't live on it, but it would be a nice little bit of pocket money for a retiree, or if you don't have a mortgage to pay.

I’m 46, two year ago mum died, best friend died just before Christmas and stepdad has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

It’s now or never.

Another restoration of faith in the basic goodness of human nature, ohdearme dropping the bmw cables off (anyone have the software?) tonight.

Lovely to meet a fellow chodster

They should do that as an "experience day", just give you a mini digger and let you loose on an old building.

That's the approach I took in Cyprus, with Greek, and it did more or less work.  I had TV channels that gave me English-speaking programmes with Greek subtitles too, so I learned to recognise some of the words visually.  But show me something with Greek dialogue and I'll get one word in ten, if I'm lucky!

40p a pack.

Ooh you git. They're a bit more than that round 'ere.

May have to remember to check prices whilst on tour.

Truly sorry to hear that, horrible news. It gives you some perspective though, it's really good that it's encouraged you to take a positive step!

Friends of mine have just escaped to Spain, enjoying it so far and determined to learn the language as fast as they can.

Did they not move to an enclave? Many do so they don`t need second language skills.

I’m looking at a very French area because I don’t want to live in little England. Food, culture and language are all part of the experience.

If you're going to do it, that's the way to do it.

High up in the mountains of the Picos de Europa

Strangely enough I am looking to move from Spain.  No moving back to the UK, wifie wants to be nearer family. I am happy with that.

Couldn't agree more. When I was travelling i lived in small towns, they tend to be friendlier anyway and there was no ex-pat population so I was forced to learn the language. Enjoy it, I'm really quite envious!

Wendsleydale & tomato sarnies. I normally use chedder for tomatoes & use this with apple, but it works damn well this way too.

Surely he’ll do time for that, all for 600 quid.

People are crowd funding to reimburse him ffs.

Depends if the jury is full of self employed contractors who have ever been shafted.

Not guilty

Better ways to go about getting £600 than causing 20k worth of damage, plus the rage he was in he could've easily killed the guy trying to talk him out of it,if they make him pay for it he might regret it, plus we're only seeing 1/2 of the story, maybe he did a shit job.

Agreed, can’t say I’m hugely arsed about damage to an insured building (one of the firms involved will surely be insured against this kind of thing) but the fact there were people in the building etc is the worst bit.
