What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Took the Toledo out for a spin today and it was good.

Lobbed her onto my mates 4 post lift to have a proper look underneath. Condition-wise, just lovely.

Needs a steering rack as there is some play, a brake hose and a gearbox mount.

Not bad at all really. Got many smiles and thumbs up signs from folk along the way.

Someone at my work has a pristine looking P38 RR they've spent a fortune on getting on the road.

Yesterday from a train I was working I noticed the indicators had stuck on permanently.

He was telling me today he got back and it was flat as a pancake. And was making crackling noises behind the dashboard when it was running again.

It's now being fixed but Jesus, never ever will I want to try one.

*Grin because there is a lot of old car people at my work. One of them owns that Ogle Scimitar thing.

Steering rack, polybush steering rack bushes and two brake hoses ordered.

Usually p38 woes are the crap tracks on the two layer mess under the drivers seat. Spent many an hour soldering jump wires on those bstards.

I am in love with this Rover 800. It's so corny to drive but it's like driving a T series powered sofa.

I need a VM powered one.

Yeah man. Just be careful though, these bastard things get under your skin, they're so addictive. Its one of the many reasons I have the Rovers antethisis the e46 BMW 3er. It's everything a Rover 800 isnt.

Mind you, they are both pretty good looking cars in my eyes. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that bollocks....

I'm supposed to be clearing out the shed bit on the side of my house whilst the missis' is out on the tiles but this friggin forum has occupied most of my time, especially the BMW interest, now all I've done is plonked shite on the dinner table... Better get to work before she gets home...

I wish they had a 6th gear, but despite initially not being as comfy as the laguna I went to Grantham and back at the weekend and got out feeling much fresher than I did in the laguna!

I feel that about the Activa as well.  It's quite low geared (70mph is around 3k) and has more than enough torque to handle an additional gear...

Would help cruising MPG too, even though it just about manages mid 30s on a steady motorway run.

Half the collectors in the group are up in arms about how ruined it is, the other half (me included) think it's bloody cool! Was used in the staff offices or something he said

A lady in this town has beaten the system !

She took delivery of a Mobility scooter that is about the size of a Renno Twizy.

As it is a Mobility Scooter there are no registration requirements for it, but, it is just like a single seater car inside. It has a nice seat, a steering wheel, windscreen wipers and probably a heater. She drives it on the road because, A. it's size and B. it can keep up with the traffic ( 50kph is achievable).

Police have investigated after stopping her antics and have agreed that as it is a M.S. there is no requirement to register and it is bloody lethal in the footpaths, so have decided to ignore it until the laws change. Scooters can be ridden on the road legally if the footpath is not "suitable" and they have all agreed that the only suitable place for it is the road.

As I understand it, these things have to be registered and display a reg plate, but there is no charge and you don't need a licence or insurance.

I thought a scooter that can do more than 4mph and had lights has to be registered with the dvla

You can ride the new electric mopeds on footpaths as long as they're only ridden in the 12mph (max) setting.

Anyhow, in other news my work's do was a great success last night, even the bit where my presence was no longer required in one of the pubs, for attempting to impersonate the disc jockey. The two large gentlemen who were on the door were even good enough to escort me to the entrance. How nice was that?

In slightly-not-as-good-news, everything still tastes of vodka this morning so I'm going to take young #clouddog @barbaraLeeTravis for a walk now.

Stuno is in New Zealand I believe so guess the regs will be different.

Seriously how stupid is that, there's enough problems round here with people trying to recreate the Tour de France on the pavement with push bikes and not seeing an issue with it, we've got the bike life wankers out in gangs of about 40 on quads, pit bikes and mx bikes and hardly a helmet or reg plate to be seen.

Now ifs fine to ride an electric ped on the footpath????

It could be, but one scooter I looked at said it was legal in under 12mph setting. That may have mean exempt from license and insurance, I probably read it wrong.

DodgeRover: I wouldn't get too excited, a lot of cyclists will achieve 12mph (and much more) with ease.

Coming home from the workshop last night, a civic type R owner i assume had ran out of talent on a round about losing the back end and riding up the end of the barrier. Leaving the civic with the rear end up on the barrier And the nose pointing down. And a rather deflated looking driver

Talking to the police.

Vtec clearly kicked in yo!

Are we talking scooters (like, electric motorbikes) or scooters (L-shaped things that you stand on and kick along)?

The kick-scooters are deffo illegal as they're self-propelled rather than having assistance. The bikes I thought were legal up to 15.5mph as long as it was assistance and not self-propelling (you have to pedal a bit), but under the same rules as pushbikes eg not ridden on the pavement?

It would be great if someone in charge of these rules could firstly have a look at what's available to buy now rather than 15 years ago, and secondly write them in a way that's understood.

If only there was some official website where you could check these things. I jest of course- there is, but it's highly unusual for any of the information on it to be correct.

It's a very dodgy area is electrically driven / assisted push bikes. Mrs BMH has an electric version of the Brompton, it's quite capable of being used without electrickery, or being used without any pedal assistance from a standing start.

I got 27mph out of it going down hill recently, scared the shit out of me because of the small wheels, and I used to commute 80 miles a day on a motorbike.

That's like the guy who saved a shagged-out pre-airflo, pre-suffix mk1 Cortina but stuck a Pinto in it and gave it the fast-road cam, wheels and suspension but was ostracised by the mk1 club for not returning it to standard...

Oh they do manage more, its more them riding 2 or 3 abreast down the footpath then trying to start a fight with a passerby who they have run into that annoys me, i've got no issue with little kids doing it, but stick them on electric peds and having them cruising the footpaths seems wrong...

Theres one guy on a pushbike goes from a standing start at the lights up a short hill and he's doing 25mph by the time he is at the top. I can't be bothered passing him to go another 5 mph faster to the next junction. He rides on the road though.

There's a lad on Facebook selling a £4,500 electric mountain bike type thing that allegedly does 50mph.

last  weekend I managed a nice rear wheel drift around our local donut ....  it was a bit wet and on a bus route ...

and this week whilst sat in the not so local pub with my mates  ... woman comes in , dumps her shopping next to me , says look after it and goes and gets the drinks in ..

comes back and engages me and my mates until the rest of the gang arrive , then another woman across the way gets active and tells her hubby to

get the drinks in

2 hours later we are still going and having a good time ..

then I get the bus and sit down next to this w.......  etc etc

and tonight , the beer cask instructions have to be obeyed ,

consume within 3 days of opening .......

shit its Monday tomorrow .
