I caught a bit of a programme about Mr Pevsner in the workshop tonight. I was the one in the workshop, he's the one who used to drive round the country and write about buildings.

Anyway, unlike much of R4s output it sounded interesting, particularly when the narrator described an incident that occurred during the time he was visiting locations in Notts. He apparently tipped the paraffin heater in his car over and managed to drench his clothes in the fuel. I remember seeing a picture in one of his books of him standing next to his small 1930's vehicle; can't remember what sort it was but even back then it was a bit of an old snotter. Given the draughts in those things he must have had a strong constitution to trundle around with the Valor stinking away merrily in the footwell. Shiter or what?

He and his wife used to drive round in some chod car, stopping at B&Bs where he wrote up the day's visits during the evening, starting the whole routine early next day. He was a bit of a workaholic. Meades criticises him for missing stuff and concentrating on churches but his is the only (or first) work of its kind where someone had attempted to document the architecture of an entire country.

I heard him quoted as saying that in his own country (Germany) it wouldn't have been so easy to just knock on people's doors and ask them about something of architectural interest. Probably wasn't a breeze over here for someone of his nationality in 1946 either. Meades criticism might have been better saved for those who demolished some of the things Pevsner missed...

I found a packet of smoked salmon in the freezer that came from Tesco with a yellow sticker on it for 37p (one of several packs in there actually) that sat beautifully on toasted sesame bagels and philadelphia cheese. Total price well under a quid.

 

Now down at the unit cutting rusty bits out of a Picasso’s sills.

Meades hasn't been on the tv toob much of late, you didn't need to agree with what he was saying, as it was always interesting.

I found a small tropicana orange juice bottle with the bottom cut out fitted perfectly into the fuel filler neck of the zx! After a year of it I squeezed the bottle and could peel the residue off!

It's a factory V8 County station wagon, but all the hacking about was done before we got hold of it. Still has some remnants, like unobtanium trim on the inside of the hard top and fetching BROWN carpets.

I used to top up from 30l drums in the works car park at lunch time, you want the biggest most solid funnel you can find and set up an anti glug breather pipe, having a massive filler and huge tank meant it would swallow 3 drums in 5 minutes...Holding 30l of fluid at  chest height for any length of time starts to hurt, watching Mad Max 2 when hes walking about with 4 jerry's on a pipe over his shoulder always makes me chuckle...

Update: while excelling itself at producing hydrocarbons, the 90 is a lot less adept at producing electricity.
