What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

the latest RCR is pretty damn grin worthy  (funnily enough we had a family friend who we called "uncle mike" and he owned a couple Routemasters...)

(one of the comments say: ""Multi-Fuel'" When my father was in the Army, they were told that in an emergency, these could run on oil-based paint." I wonder if it actually could? I imagine it would prolly jam the injectors up in no time esp if it dried out....)

Multifuel means they can burn diesel, aviation fuel and petrol, the latter two mixed with heavier oils so the engine will run okay.

I neglected to mention I also have an interview tomorrow (in Aberdeen) and one next Tuesday in Dundee.

Glad I have a straight 6 automatic-gearboxed German coupe for eating up the miles.

Good luck with the interviews!

And with getting into/out of Dundee in one piece...

im specifically referring to the oil based paint thing :) (especially as people here have talked of the pain that is getting rid of old pots of paint  )

That might be one way to get rid of red diesel stains.

When people talk about white diesel they don’t mean pure brilliant! :D

Just had a phonecall from an asian sounding gentleman "Hello, this is Robert Peel from Microsoft"

me 'really, Robert Peel'

"yes sir, we've detected a problem with your Windows"

after I stopped laughing down the phone I said "the best thing you can do Mr Peel is fuck off and don't phone again"

Yeah Robert Peel that sounds a plausible name to use for my telephone scam.

The name of the founding father of Britain's modern police force well done Mr scammer I'm still chuckling now.

The bargain basement Audi A4 I purchased for a friend of mine, from Bramz7, who purchased it from HMC / Bjorn passed its MOT today.

I don't know how I never noticed when I drove it home from collection, nor how my friend never questioned it - but the SRS and Engine Management lights had both been very obviously taped over. Obviously the MOT man spotted it and failed the car, but then fucked about for 30 mins disassembling the dash, removing the tape, and plugging everything back in, then took the car for a road test, upon his return declaring the car was absolutely fine, and he couldn't understand why they had been taped over.

Most strange - anyway, the cheapest car I have ever bought now has another 12 months ticket (all its needed is 4 tyres since purchase).

I wonder how long that tape has been on those lights that the car has had time to self heal :D Did either of you notice the tape Bramz/Bjorn in your very short ownership? Reckon they've probably been covered years and taken to a friendly station.

Good to hear, it was a decent runaround. I did wonder what it was...it looked like the dash had been taken apart at some point but I didn't look at it too closely.

I have glitter ceilings at my house. Much better*. Especially considering I have no stairs.

We had one of those "we've detected a problem with your Windows installation..." calls yesterday too. Unsurprisingly they hung up when I told them that thanks to their wonderful job of coding Windows Vista that I'd not been using their products for the last 11 years.

My grin for the day was a simple one.

The joy that it brings to me in the way the Invacar now just instantly springs to life with a flick of the key now. Especially looking back at the pain it was to start when I got it, and think to how long the thing had been laying forgotten in a field.

...just need to somehow manufacture enough time to get it finished!

Got an e-mail at work from a guy named Austin Armbruster which is close enough at 7am to raise a smile.

I'm guessing from the meme that's a good thing? If you can make the sums work redundancy isn't bad!!

Near where I'm staying there's a building site. All the builders come in their latest VW Amaroks, Hiluxes or Caddys.

But there is also a proper winner amongst them coming every day in this beauty:

Saw something old on the A303 today, so slowed down to pull in behind it and check it out....

It was a bloody Nova convertible! One of the ones based on the saloon. Piloted by an older lady too. Superb.

I've been known to utter "I'd rather drink my own pish" when asked if I fancy a "popular" Tadcaster-brewed beer. Hint: it's not Sam Smith's.

Driving along yesterday with my mate who’s a fellow councillor, minding our own business when some young prat in a Audi estate with private hire plates and the company name plastered all over it came straight out of a side street ignoring a give way sign before slamming on his brakes to avoid hitting us (in two+ tons of XC90 with DLRs on) and proceeded to start giving us all the verbals, fist shaking etc etc.

Why in the grin thread??

The ensuing phone call I made to his employers to point out that it wasn’t exactly a good idea for him to drive like a knob and then start verbally abusing the chairman of the local taxi licensing comittee, bless him.

Been out hooning my gt86.

Oh my, it is so much fun.

Ok not fast, but it just slices through corners. The seats are brilliant, really tight and grippy.

The steering is heavy and feels great.

The gear change is nice and notchy.

It needs more noise, something I'm looking in to, but other than that, I love it.

Plus, you can get the arse out on quiet bits of road :)
