What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Plus new tensioners and waterpump may have reduced some drag too. Amy said the Meriva felt faster after I did the belt, pulleys and pump, but I couldn't feel any difference so YMMV

Looking at cars on eBay (as we do), advert said: that's not damage to the paint on the bonnet. That's just clouds in the sky.

I'm sitting here giggling to myself.

After a brief run in my truck at the weekend I've been thinking about running it further. I want to but been a bit scared. Don't know why because if it breaks I'll just need to fix it. So far all I've done with the engine box and axle is change oils.

So last night I decided to celebrate Friday by driving it to work.........which is only about 18 miles but it's longest trip for some time.

It made it! Dripping a bit of oil but nothing serious. And it does 50 pretty well. I didn't hold it for long as I want to run it about and change the oils again but 50 was what I was hoping for.

Chuffed to fuck.

Non car related BUT the Grin news is they are shutting my office at 3pm today and not re-opening until 11am tomorrow. The GRUMP news is that it's due to a hurricane that's due to hit later this evening. My next post may be from underwater  :common070:

Whereabouts in Fl are you darkfour?

Don't want to worry you, but your classy motor has been photobombed by an old pick-up truck.

I just started my first ever engine using a cranking handle. And it was a 7 litre V8. And both my arms are still attached to my torso.

How did this come about?

I pulled up to the bar in the village to be greeted by a mechanic trying to crank this Zil into life.

I asked him for a go and he let me. I got a bit of a sweat on but got it started. I feel like a real man now.

The ones that make me laugh are customers that say how much better their car is running after a service when its been a minor ( oil and filter change) one .

I always maintain my cars feel faster after a good detail. Maybe that's why the zx felt so slow at the end, I hadn't washed it in over a year...

Posted

I find cleaning the dashboard makes my car feel at least a zillion times better to drive.

A good detail will give you a marginal aerodynamic improvement.

Whether you'd be able to notice a performance improvement or that's in your head...

Pumping my tyres from inevitable 8psi they usually are (after waiting for them to cool down from 200c to take the valve caps off) to 34psi always makes it feel like a new car.

Depends how long it's been since it was last done, if it comes out like black water then you would notice the difference.

Pointing out to well-off Thatcherites who have moved to the sticks that the reason BT won't connect them to the broadband network is entirely due to profitability and part of the free-market economics of which they are so beloved...

I made myself a phone holder during my lunch break! Its pretty shit, but mk1 holds the phone, and in a nice location too.

Mk2 may involve a cheap phone holder, a cassette tape and some cable ties, stay tuned! (i dont own a phone holder atm though, so need to find a cheap shitty one)

I have no sloping surfaces though, Amy has one like that in the slug, on the little shelf infront of the clock.

A plan I had was to hack a dock into the ashtray, but it seems like hard work.

Or one of these, but they look like they could be shit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-360-Magnetic-Phone-Mobile-Car-Dash-Holder-Magic-Stand-Mount-UK-seller-/231681937536?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368

Or a £12.99 vent mount, but that could sit too high, and it costs £12.99

I don't know why this is so hard to decide on tbh, but it is!

Posted

wasn't a recommendation, it's a very rubbish phone mount. The grin was for the "Similar seen on TV" badge!

I keep my phone in the door pocket and ignore it until I've stopped driving.

I want mine tappable so I can change radio stations as per the streaming radio thread. And sat nav purposes should I ever need them

But the windscreen is far away, and would look stupid, and I hate having stuff on the dashboard/infront of the windscreen

I'm in St Augustine, in North East Florida and the hurricane turned out to be a non event here. It's a bit windy at times but we escaped most of it. Still, the boss gave us the whole day off.

The oldest City in America, a beautiful place to be. I had lunch at Georgie's Diner there, years ago. Flagler College is an amazing building - glad the Hurricane went tropical and went north.

I got one of them phone holders that go into the CD slot, they're surprisingly robust for £3 off eBay. And the chances of me relying on a shiny round thing to play music is minimal so not really that fussed that it's occupying the slot.

I want the same sort of thing but for a tape player! They seem to be not made though

I was there when Floyd went through....

Watching all the "rednecks" dragging their trailers up north through Kissimee to get away from it made for entertaining viewing..and seeing all the local malls being cleared of water, baby food and bbq's too

Sort of car related. Has anyone else seen the Range Rover in the new Churchill advert?

But did you notice the crafty "Penis Rover" number plate?

I was watching Keeping Up Appearances on one of the freeview channels last night, and in one episode the sisters decided (actually I think Hyacinth did) to take Daddy out for a picnic.

Yes, it's this one...

I hadn't seen this one before!  A whole chase with the Rover and Cortina, during Mary Millar's tenure as Rose (always liked her version).  Top Autoshite telly!
