Reasons to be cheerful …

1.Seasoned firewood moved to garage. Check

2.reserve ‘emergency’ bags of kiln dried firewood. Check

3. lesser seen nesting expansion chambers. Check

There's not a lot more satisfying than looking at a pile of firewood ready to go

Don't, I feel old this morning.

We had our work Xmas lunch yesterday and went out in Marlow and every place we went/walked past was a different thing. We were drinking in a spoons that used to be a clothes shop then an in iceland before that.

The pub I sipped my underage pints in with my friends, the unwritten rule of 'find a corner, shut up, don't fuck about' always loud and clear. That's now some boutique jewelry shop now 😢 I then directed my friend down a lovely little rat run I knew... Which is now closed off at one end 😡 How we laughed (well, us 2 drunk people in the car, my friend drove 😂

The trouble is cutting down dead trees makes this. Then this needs to be cut up for next years burning. A lot of work.

Just popping in momentarily to report that I fixed the van's overheating issue and it didn't cost me any money just a few hours. I'm as surprised as anyone about this.  It was lovely that @Amelia had so recently had everything apart and installed lovely new parts, what a joy to work on since I wasn't fighting rusty parts and misery.

I bought myself a hydraulic log splitter a while ago. One of the best tools I've got, not cheap, but worth it's weight in gold for the effort it saves.

Having said that, your logpile would last me about 4 days, three stoves take some stock...🙄

I love a good long walk and I love my dogs, but we've always had whippets which don't want to go the distance. A couple of miles and they wanted to go home, less so if it's cold!

About 16 months ago we lost my best whippet mate, and a couple of months ago we got this nobhead from a rescue thinking that she "was mostly sighthound":

image.jpeg.a99152696a69b0b4dd57d666d289c667.jpeg

A tiny, meek little thing when we got her, 4.2kg!

Turns out she was just hungry, not a sighthound at all 😂 DNA says she's mostly Collie, closely followed by German Shepherd, and some other stuff that's keeping her small. Nowt like any dog we've ever had, and absolutely not what we'd have chosen, but she loves to walk. Walk for miles!

We reckon she's 7 or 8 months old now so I can take her for a good mission:

This is her after 12 miles walking today - took her off lead out and about for the first time, and we did a couple of miles, she kept close by and was no bother.

Sorry to bore the non dog people, but I'm proper happy to have a new walking partner.

up and around like the milk choccy man last night at midnight ..

woke up to the dog barking , then I noticed some banging and shouting , it went on for a while , and so did the dog barking ...so got up

so being brave I stuck my nose out of the front door to find her next door locked out ..in her glad rags .. she was not happy ..

her grown up kids were supposed to let her in , but had left the key in the lock as well as going to sleep ..

so got the ladders out , over the back fence like a PJ d ninja , in the back entrance , shoved her "useful" dog out of the way to open the front door   .

to put it mildly I have never seen a woman wake up her offspring in that manner before , I assume their life will be as interesting this morning ....

Further to this, today it is not fixed again.  Just waiting for it to cool down to try a couple of things, good old cléon-fonte nonsense.

This is our Womble.

It's his 3yr "gotcha" day today when we picked him up from a local rescue.

The table he is under on day 1 is also in the other pic of him 1 year old.

He fitted into the rest of the pack very well and they all enjoy their walks

What a beauty!

We're a little bit nervous that ours isn't as old as we think and that she's still got a lot of growing to do...

To celebrate my not-quite-60th birthday, Domestic Management took me out to lunch; we decided on a carvery at a garden centre.  The full horror of the implications struck us as we ate, surrounded by the demographic typical of such places, and we realised that the inevitable next step was either a Saga cruise or a week at a Warner hotel!

I'm completely with Dylan Thomas on this...

Further to this, it is fixed again.  Absolutely the standard cleon-fonte nonsense.  Just had to twiddle my knobs and give it a thrashing for a bit.
